Never Seen a Company Lower Morale So Fast

Every single person I worked with liked their job couple of years ago. Now none of them do. We are talking close to 100 people, not 5 or 6. This place REALLY messed up morale. Everyone is either too overpaid to leave, trying to find a new job, gone, close to retirement and sticking it out, or completely checked out and doing the minimum.

Any serious ideas on how to turn this around as a grass roots movement?

The layoffs will continue until morale improves

Does anyone else feel like this is “the layoffs will continue until morale improves?”
I’ve heard of US, CA, MX, UK impacts-. Apparently the announcements will continue to be provided this week as HR could not get a hold of all individuals earlier on Monday and Tuesday.
It hadn’t even been a year since the last round to figure out “a new way of working”- where “we are not asking you to do more with less but to just stop doing the non-value work” I’m still waiting to know what is defined as the non-valued work. I also find it crazy that after a profitable quarter one we continue to lay off employees.

I do like it

The thing is I do like Verizon. I like the people I work with and solving problems. I’ve had the chance to move around and grow and learn from better people than myself.

I have experience. I have education. I just wanted to be a part of something long term.

I just assume no one finds a job after Verizon and lives hand to mouth. I need to follow up with those that left to see how they’re doing.

There but for the grace of God go I.

I have yet to see anyone in my team get laid off who actually deserved it

It’s always the reliable people with real skills and experience. Meanwhile, the same workload just gets dumped on the rest of us, including a bunch of near-useless folks. Why, ffs? Sometimes I honestly wonder how this place even functions. If office politics, basically code for su-k-ups doing fine, is the main criteria for layoffs, there’s no way this company keeps quality people.

The company is overrun by detail oriented execution ant worker types with zero strategic vision and abstract thinking ability

That is why it's going to he-l in a hand basket.

If you hear someone say, "im detail orienited" mentally translate that to "I probably focus on superficial details and don't have much in the way of abstract thinking ability and pattern recognition."

Squad lead roles in particular have been run over by these types. Always working. Always looking busy. Just not on the things that matter. And all this would be forgiven if they didn't have a nasty attitude about things.

Angry because things don't go their way, but too d-mb to figure out the problem or understand someone trying to give them advice.

Hundreds of people impacted globally

LSEG continues with layoffs and hundreds of people have been impacted. It seems the company even took down a post about it as it’s no longer there.
It feels like another move to cut costs and make the numbers look better while the stock struggles. It’s tough to watch, especially since there are so many great and knowledgeable people here. They’re really the main reason many of us stay.
But for those who remain, the workload keeps growing, and so much valuable knowledge has already walked out the door. Who knows when the next round might come. Maybe Q1? There’s always that lingering feeling that anyone could be next and that will continue forever until …

Hang in there everyone.

November layoffs

You can be sure this process has already started as Sycamore does not care where sales and profit are, they will cut more to improve their end of the year bonus.
It usually starts with notifying the go forward teams. I am sure that has already happened as they like to conduct their layoffs starting the 1st week of November. Best of luck! They love to mix up teams and leave customers with frustrations with new support teams. One of the only companies that restructured so many times in the past 10 years regardless of profits. Most employees have lived in fear of new changes to their role and compensation hit. Be better Staples and Sycamore.

Do some of the 3M Corporate Research PhD Folks look down those without PhD in Division?

I've been at 3M for a little over a year now. I work in division but I came from a very technical background so I do some of the work that CRSL people do.

However, I do not have a PhD and in some of my interactions, I distinctly feel that some of these guys in CRSL really look down on others?

Is this all in my head or do others also feel the same way?

They want spineless employees

So bad that you get written up for an isolated incident that makes you question your ethics look to AI for answers. Result your manager is a bully! And, HR comment “subjective” they can write whatever they want.

What you’re describing isn’t just frustrating; it’s an example of poor management practice that can really erode morale and trust.

You’re doing something brave and professional by standing up for yourself without being disrespectful. That balance takes strength.

Doomed if you’re strong!

Know someone who has a Cricut?

I made a shirt that says “Target Laid My Husband Off” and a bandanna that says “Target Laid My Dad Off” for my dog (we don’t have kids).

Maybe you could do the same? It’s despicable that so many people are facing hardship as a result of poor leadership and greed. Take care of yourself and know it’s not you, it’s Target.

I survived for now, but there is no logic here.

My peer who has been with the enterprise almost as long as me got the tap today. They were a hard worker (always seeking more work in an effort to avoid this), very knowledgeable, very ethical.
This is a loss for the firm, and there was no logic to it. Just a body to fulfill a cut requirement number.
So if you think you are safe because you are a smart hard worker or if you spend your time on here telling other folks they are su-kers for not somehow avoiding getting cut, I have some bad news for you.

What happens next?

This is my first time witnessing a layoff. I recently graduated college and just joined the job market lol. I was lucky and got to keep my job but I’m having a very hard time getting back to work and “prepping for peak”. Do we really just have to go back to working like nothing happened? And specially during the busiest season? Surely they thought about how this + the production freeze would decrease productivity….

I got the severance!

State Farm is really not even a legitimate business anymore. Scam! Insurance companies from P&C carriers to Health Care are run with no consequences because they have so much money and too much influence. I'm in U/W and I'm done in November as I was lucky enough to get the severance. My heart goes out to those that didn't. I can absolutely guarantee you that I try to destroy SFs reputation and brand at every single opportunity. It's bad in U/W but what they have been doing to claims folks over the last decade is down right criminal and it is getting worse. JF keeps talking about the past and rolling out Ed for nostalgia but he was right there with MT destroying State Farm. He started the fire and burned down the house now he is blaming everyone and trying to act like he didn't help do it. This place is a soul ki-ling machine and its "woke" completely incompetent workforce will be the end of SF. If you can, get out, cancel your policies and spread the word to anyone you can. They try to bring down and destroy good people working hard so don't feel bad about sending back the same energy they put out! Sc--w that place!

How has Cisco damaged your health

I lost all my gains from working out and became fat working day and night for this company. Now I don’t even complete my tasks and management is micro managing me/constantly asking me to present things about AI to the team. I don’t hang out with friends as much and have very little time to date/do activities.

I’m only 2 years out of college and know getting fired/PIP will likely force me out of tech forever and into low-skill no degree required work but that is concerning me less every day.

Life is over

I just got laid off at Target and my wife who works at Amazon as well whom is currently pregnant.

Speaking to my future self get out of retail it’s too risky to have job in this industry. It's not like before. Just as a token of advice for those who meet their significant other at Target and rotate companies but stay in retail

This Has Ruined Target’s Image

Can I just start by saying, what a complete sh-t show these last few days have been? They made us employees wait for days, ruin our mental health, and provide no information at all at how this would unfold.

Then hearing of this absolutely disgusting way of telling affected people by inviting them to a webinar, they disabled the chat, and the meeting audio not working? Wtf!

The icing on the cake is my manager just chatted our whole team and asked if we were safe from the layoffs…like, hello? Our management doesn’t even know if their teams are affected?

Whoever is in charge of this better be fired for their complete incompetence. What a damn embarrassment for the company. The new ceo, the board, and the executive team should be ASHAMED!

Can we stop, please?

Can we have at least one damn day to relax and take in the fact that we survived instead of having people already talking about future rounds? Are some of you masochists? Are you addicted to drama? What is your problem? The layoffs are over. It’s okay to feel happy about it. FFS.

The one good thing is that it’s been done quickly

Everything else has been a mess, from the announcement and the buildup, to the awful communication from leadership right up to the last minute. I dread whatever comes next. I really feel for those affected today, especially anyone in a tougher spot than the rest. Wishing them all the luck.

Unpopular Opinion

I was hoping for a different outcome than most of us here and must say.. I am completely disappointed to have received a safe email. I honestly wish I could take the spot of one of you who has invested way more into this. Anywho.. my prayers are with you all. I hope that your next road traveled is far greater and more fulfilling than Target ever could’ve been.

Could this have been done better?

I have been praying for myself and everyone else. Even if I survive this layoff I know others will not and it saddens me. What a horrible way to do a layoff, we find out Thursday and have to go all the way to Tuesday to find out, it has been a miserable few days for all of us. I would say it is CRUEL in fact. I love Target and I wish they had handled this with more care.

Quiet quit

That’s what I plan to do from now on. I’ll give back exactly what I’m given in return. They’ve shown us how little they think of us, so why should I bother giving it my all anymore? My best effort will be reserved for my next company, hopefully one that treats its employees better.

This is not going to stop here

Let’s be honest. They don’t care about quality or people, only about cutting costs. If they can outsource us all, they will. The work will definitely suffer, but that won’t matter to them. As long as the numbers look good on paper, they’ll call it a success. That’s the sad truth of where we are now.

Chris Pronger at Home Office

Penny spent some more of her displaced associates money today. Penny brought former St. Louis Blues player Chris Pronger in to the home office today to preach about the importance of what we do. Pronger said he needed financial guidance when he received a $7 million four year contract with a $4 million signing bonus at the age of eighteen. Penny and team are either tone deaf and/or just do not care. Penny has laid off people making five figures and trying to figure out which bill to pay this month by sending jobs to India. Penny has demoted some of her Enterprise Reimagined survivors who are now scraping by. Penny brings in a 51 year old ex jock who was a multimillionaire at the age of eighteen. This saga just keeps getting worse at the home office. Penny is just rubbing salt in the wounds of everyone affected by her Enterprise Reimagined project. How can Pronger give a speech about his financial life? Who did he think he was speaking to? Did he think he was speaking to a room full of Edward Jones ELT members who make eight figures annually? The most amazing part of Pronger's speech was when he said he too had navigate retirement woes. The man is 51. He could have retired at the age of 18 with his signing bonus if he wanted to. The home office has people literally making $40,000 per year and he is lecturing us about his retirement woes. Some of the people at the home office have been working there for decades and have no idea when they will be able to retire. They may have to work until the day the die thanks to Penny. Now, because of Penny, these people also have to look over their shoulders at the fear of losing their five figure job to someone in India. The change in culture from JW to Penny is absolutely stunning. Let's run down the cavalcade of rich people Penny has brought in to lecture the firm, Magic Johnson, Simone Biles, Hoda Kotb, and Chris Pronger. Penny said her biggest mistake was spending too much money when she first became managing partner. Penny is now slashing expenses (labor), but still wasting money which has nothing to do with serving clients better by bringing these people in who never say anything worthwhile or practical to their audience. Chris Pronger now runs a luxury travel agency in Chesterfield, MO. Maybe our displaced and demoted associates can put an application in with his company. I fear though only Penny and the rest of the ELT will actually be able to be one of Pronger's clients.

RTO is Ending everywhere but here

RTO is coming to an end. Productivity is down, morale is worse than ever, and people are leaving in waves for companies that offer flexibility. The younger workforce doesn’t want to live in traffic five days a week, and the veterans are burned out.

Every major study shows hybrid work drives better results, retention, and satisfaction. Forcing everyone back has done the opposite. Billions are being wasted on office space instead of innovation, debt reduction, or employee development.

RTO didn’t build culture or collaboration. It built resentment and distrust. The future of work is flexible, and every company that matters knows it. It’s time AT&T caught up.

It’s giving “HUNGER GAMES: BULLSEYE EDITION!” 🏹🎯

Everyone acting calm while refreshing Slack and Outlook like it’s the stock market.
Morale’s on clearance and hope’s in short supply.

Good luck to all tributes tomorrow — MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOR 🫡🔥

See y’all at the Target Café for one last Red Eye Latte ☕😬

Transparency is Non-Existent

The biggest issue I am having with this layoff thing, is the absolutely lack of transparency they are giving us. What a failure on leaderships part and especially this new CEO. What a way to make your first real impact on the company — your likability factor and lack of decency is out the door already.

How hard is it for this company to at least tell people what the process is like / how things will unfold instead of making every single employee just be on edge for several days? Very cruel and clearly they are not taking their employee’s well-being seriously.

Morale

I have to imagine that if we do survive that morale is going to be bankrupt here. I would rather have a job, but I hope people realize that they are very talented and we deserve better of our employer. Don’t settle for anything less. Let’s support our co workers who do get let go and keep fighting for the kind of careers we all want… which is hopefully not this.

Don’t be mad.

The downfall at Target is certain. If you survive, find a new job ASAP.

Here is the big issue. You’re all worried about Trump and thinking the Mexicans are stealing the jobs when in reality it’s happening in front of our faces. It’s the Indians. Wake up people. India doesn’t even have Targets lol.

Target HQ I hope you read this. Good luck maintaining a company that operates in India that lack an understanding of the American culture. Do you see many Indians shop at Target? Mostly American white woman lol. That right there is the problem. But, hey, anything to save a Penny.
