If you are coasting but getting some passable amount of work done, you are invincible
If you make it look like you're making a big effort and check in large amounts of extremely broken code which will require multiple hours of other people's time to fix each hour of your "work" you are invincible. Cisco's managers, like their engineers, can't grasp the concept of negative contribution.
staying off of PIP at Cisco is easy
show up, make some token effort...but otherwise coast
most managers won't bother crossing the threshold to raise a stink over it because that involves effort on their behalf
in seven years I have not witnessed or heard of an individual being terminated outside of the layoff cycle for performance reasons
If your manager gets cute and fires you, they likely won't even get to backfill your role...they know this so your coasting will be tolerated
PIPs can be backfilled.
Of course those lay offs never impact the many layers of VPs.
Wrong.
This company’s only response to anything is layoffs. Of course those lay offs never impact the many layers of VPs.
I love hiring freezes!

Layoffs on the way
@ap Cisco did not announce layoffs. They announced hiring freeze and essential travel only. Historically since I’ve been here, this does mean layoffs are possible in the future like FY27 Q1 but that was back when we were actually struggling revenue wise so who knows it’s hard to say at this point. I can see there being smaller layoffs in specific business units though
Can yall recap what happened? Did Cisco announce a layoff?
"Arre, why are you so shocked? Don’t you remember that day? Fran was sitting there with a big smile, like she was posing for some photoshoot, while giving the news that so many of us would be sacked. It was the biggest mess-up of the year. The chat literally exploded! Only gaali-galoch (cursing) was missing, otherwise people were saying everything possible. That blunder alone should have been enough to fire her on the spot, especially since she was the HR Head at that time."
Lmao I sp-t my coffee out when they said they are “doing this from a position of strength”. And then wrapping up with some BS about employees appreciation day.
