Remember when we had good pay, solid benefits, and you could move up without nepotism or a-s-kissing? When having Nike on your resume was an asset? Can we go back to those times? I miss liking my job. I truly do.

Rose colored glasses. This was never the case. maybe at one point you had a better boss, or a job that suited you better, but to pretend like there was just this golden age before is just silly. I do remember most of the happy hours were ending at the strip club and being pervasively harassed by multiple senior leaders, though!
@c6 tell us then, what is your definition of woke?
Well.... people have been saying they missed the "old days" since 1984… change isn't easy. Here are some quotes from the movie.
• We used to be the guys who broke the rules. Now we're the guys who make them."
◦ Knight says this while reflecting on how Nike has become "safe" and corporate, losing the "shoe dog" spirit of the early days when they were just a small group of runners in Oregon.
• "I miss the days when we didn't have a board of directors telling us what we can and can't do."
◦ This sentiment is woven throughout his conversations with Sonny, highlighting his nostalgia for the time when he could make gut-level decisions without worrying about stock prices or public perception.
• "Maybe it will grow on me."
◦ While specifically about the "Air Jordan" name, this is a direct callback to his original hesitation when naming the company "Nike." It represents his nostalgic attachment to his first choice, "Dimension Six," and the early days of building the brand from nothing.
Keep looking to the past. That's exactly what's wrong with this company. Post literally confirms that Nikes best days are in the past.
Nike wouldn't be anything without Michael Jordan
And he hasn't played a game in 23 years. Lack of innovation and storytelling is why nike su-ks today.
Maybe stop naming your buildings after creeps and pedophiles while you're are it
Back when IT wasn't controlled by the Taj Mahal...
@c6 please refrain from making racist statements on this board. Athletes of many backgrounds and many sports are sponsored by Nike.
Attributing the success of a company to one race is exceptionally inflammatory, unjust, and disgusting.
Great point! These athletes you’ve mentioned… are they on the team because of their ability? Either the ability to win games and or increase marketability (ticket sales or ad revenue) of their franchise?
Or, are they on the team because league management defined racial quotas?
At Nike, sure; merit matters. But it's not the only thing anymore. For hiring, promotion, and retention; consideration of merit is included with gender and racial identity.
The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) defines "woke" as an adjective meaning alert to racial or social discrimination and injustice. Historically rooted in AAVE (African-American Vernacular English) to mean "well-informed" or "aware," it was added to the OED in 2017 following its association with the Black Lives Matter movement.
The claims of the term woke being misused is ironic, given the definition above. At Nike there is a systemic and defined policy that results in decreased executive compensation if their organization hires or promotes too many white men. By definition, this is discrimination.
I simply want you to be woke on this issue of discrimination. Or, can woke only be used to refer to discrimination of one type of people?
The real irony here though… is that you’re right! Nike isn’t woke! If wokeness stops at simply being aware of injustice… Nike has bypassed being woke; and into prejudicial territory. If Nike was truly woke… they wouldn’t have a policy the monetizes discrimination of anyone.
Respectfully Woke.
You losers don't even use the term woke correctly. A term that why people hijacked and totally misused in order to sprew ignorant agendas. SMH
Last time I checked, black athletes & athletes of color are the main ones keeping nike afloat. Also without MJ... there is no nike or sneaker culture.

@a3 parallels the demise of local public schools as well.
Unrelated, are we woke enough? Do we need to be woker? Or, are we the wokest we need to be? Can we do any more woking? Do we need any more wokers? Or do we have enough wokes? How does one assess their relative wokism? Should we keep woking?
Woke-on everyone!
It should surprise no one that a company begins to fail when they put merit in the backseat. One thing for it to be cultural… altogether different if it is drawn into policy and bonus structures.
Merit doesn’t matter. Doing your job doesn’t matter. Politics, gender, and skin color are far more important than whether or not you can do your job. You know it. I know it.
Nike on your resume is a job death sentence.
People in Portland job market call Nike employee terrible. The example are the folks that when from Nike to Fred Meyer are really showing just how how bad the Nike work force is.
That was at least 30 years ago.
I also miss those days.
These days are over so get OVER yourself, su-k it up and if you don't like it?! Quit!
it started at the top with the majority shareholder
they cheapened the company
and implemented their own personal twisted goals
As the stock tanked so did the moral and the job security and just about everything else imaginable, if some one told me it would be this bad 6 years ago I would have not believed them
The utter lack of competence is next level, oddly on par with the demise of pdx, speaks loudly, no?
