How do I convince leadership to let me go back to my old role?

How do I convince leadership to let me go back to my old role/team instead of laying me off? I have been moved around to so many times in the last few years, I’d really like to go back to what I was doing prior to all the re-org’s. Also, does anyone know if HR will offer a lower position in another are vs. laying someone off? I really don’t want to get laid off (despite all the trolls on this site) and willing to take a lower job.

No longer can get a masters degree? Are these clowns really continuing to go down this cost savings route? We already have zero job growth with no new positions anywhere in finance (and other depts). Whatever, the company su-ks now and I’ll just do the bare minimum until I find something better


EA role changes

In what was once a somewhat protected role, we are now being told that the EA roles are now changing to a worldpay model. I’m fairly new to Global Payments and I’m worried about my job now. This place is toxic and creates anxiety for their employees. I work with a great bunch of admin gals (and some admins guys) but I’m feeling the anxiety of what others feel when they don’t know what’s to come.


No, you're not safe

If you are at FIS, just assume you are on the chopping block no matter what. Good performance, glowing reviews, even being tight with your manager, none of it matters. You are a number in a spreadsheet and the moment it gets too high for comfort, they will show you the door. Better to accept that now than get blindsided later.


Republic National Distributing to Cut Ohio Jobs

Republic National Distributing Co. plans to lay off 56 employees. The company will cease operations at three Ohio locations. Two of these sites are located in Greater Cincinnati. These moves follow several months of downsizing. A potential sale of its Ohio facilities is under consideration.

Getting laid off from Citi turned out to be the relief I didn't know I needed

I thought losing my job at Citi would hurt more, but it turned out to be freeing. The nonstop grind and scrambling just wore me down day after day until I could barely remember what normal felt like. I won't lie, it stung for maybe a week or two, but now I'm just relieved to wake up without that weight on my chest. Found a new job within two months, so there's that as well. All in all, a net positive for me.


Is there a point anymore?

A position I was eying opened up and I was going to apply internally but then I stopped and really thought about it. Is there a point of investing any more of my career here or should I just start applying outside? Things have been messed up for a while and as much as I used to like it here, I'm not sure I see a bright future for this place.

Seven South Carolina firms to cut over 2,000 jobs

Electrolux Consumer Products will lay off 1,255 employees in Anderson, South Carolina. These job reductions are scheduled between July 18 and December 18. Republic National Brewing Company is permanently closing its Lexington facility, affecting 451 workers. Univar Solution USA, Thyssenkrupp Supply Chain Services, Hengst Filtration, and Swiss Krono also announced job cuts. In total, seven companies recently notified over 2,100 workers of upcoming terminations.

RTO woes

We are a family of 4, with 2 in elementary school assigned to go to ATL but I asked for Dallas and manager and VP were ok to Dallas with no confirmation from HR or ATS. I don’t have a choice except to move as I have single income. I am super scared of moving as there is no job guarantee after I move and could get surplused in a year as it happened to many people. I have tried for jobs since 3 years but did not land any. Was anybody in this situation where they chose one location over the assigned location? I live in a metro but still no jobs here


Reyes Beverage Acquires RNDC Phoenix Site, Layoffs Notified

Reyes Beverage Company acquired assets from Republic National Distribution Company. This deal included RNDC's Phoenix distribution facility. Reyes acquired the Phoenix facility on June 2 for $42.6 million. RNDC previously filed a notice of potential layoffs. This notice affected 211 jobs at the Phoenix warehouse.

Experience doesn't seem to protect anyone

I've worked closely with a few core systems for years and always believed that made me valuable to Cisco. Recently I've watched people with deep knowledge get pushed aside during layoffs and it's changed the way a lot of us look at long term stability here. We still work hard, but there's definitely less confidence that loyalty or expertise will matter when decisions get made. So many of us have started looking. Loyalty has to be a two way street or it simply disappears.


The stress of being unemployed is real

I've been on both sides of this, and the fear of not having a job is just as bad as the misery of having one you hate. Watching your savings drain and your health coverage get closer to expiring is its own special kind of he-l. You still got a paycheck coming in, don't waste that advantage. Even if you think you're safe, it won't hurt you to start looking, just in case. There's a huge difference between getting to do it while still employed than when you're already without a job.


A Heartwarming Layoff Story

I just returned to work on 5/28 after being out on short term disability for a heart condition. Apparently I missed the mass video firing? I came back to see my supervisor and others in my team chat as "user unknown" Confused, I reached out to get some understanding of what I missed, I was ignored. So I clocked in and began my day. Member choice center btw. About 2 hours in, I received a meeting invite and was informed that my job was eliminated and was to clock out after the meeting. Which actually is fine because this job was soul su-king and I found something better. I do have a question about severance though. How long does it take to get severance and the email with info on that?

Prescreening for jobs

When did CVS start using HireVue for prescreening?
For anyone lucky enough not to know, it’s where you record yourself answering interview questions while an AI quietly judges you. Essentially a corporate Tinder.
This is a director level posting, not a role getting hundreds of entry-level applicants. I’ve been here over 20 years, and I only apply to things I actually care about—not panic-clicking “apply” at midnight. My skills were a great match for the role. I’m also not eager to risk awkwardness with my current manager just to get rejected because I didn’t maintain “optimal eye contact with my webcam.” Its a lateral move so I really need a two-way conversation with HR first to assess compatibility.
I was told it’s mandatory, so I withdrew.
Am I overreacting? Is this just the times? I get it AI is everything now but I feel certain circumstances should not be using this route to weed out candidates. Id love to hear from those who think this is a great idea because I must be missing something and some day I may very well HAVE to use it..


Virginia Layoffs Accelerate in First Five Months

Virginia experienced a notable rise in job losses during early 2026. Statewide, 4,838 layoffs were announced by May 31. This marks a 29 percent increase over the same period in 2025.
