Bloodbath in Oracle Development

Another day of major cuts across Oracle Database development and other groups. A lot of highly skilled, experienced people with very relevant expertise are being let go. Top performers gone. It looks like the impact is falling more heavily on senior, more experienced employees—though it’s clearly been structured carefully from a legal standpoint. Oracle is not the company it used to be. Sad.

Anyone else notice that….

These Clown hall meetings , Dermie P-O-M eyesores, investor conferences etc. etc. etc. always seem to happen around two weeks after a ‘blood letting’ here? Jupiter sized head Dermie will have a complete waste of time agile p-o-m snooze fest on 9/25 apparently. Will RV and HR go scalping around 9/16-9/17?

Layoffs in Spain

Hi everyone - so it was just announced by SAP Spain that they are starting another mass layoff process in the country.

Given the legal requirements of the process, this means it's at least 30 positions impacted of the ~1000 we have here.

I guess the writing was on the wall after that Q2 earnings call with Christian and Dominik.

I'm curious if anybody else has heard from other countries being impacted too?

My team is becoming a joke

I’m sure these three basically-kids and two chronic slackers are ready to fill the shoes of the four veterans we just lost. I also hope they’re ready to take on the workload, because I sure as he-l am not going to. Is there even a general idea of how many teams like mine are supposed to function, let alone produce good work?

We shouldn’t rejoice

God knows how this will impact us down the line. As a rule, we get the short end of the stick. The appetite for change at the top can quickly turn into an appetite for more money at the top, which often means another round of cuts for the rest of us. Never forget that the preferred state of affairs would be for us to work for free. Short of that, it’s doing the work of three people while living under the constant threat of being cut. That seems to be the current model.

I'm not even stressing anymore

Let’s be honest, who here wouldn’t be better off working somewhere, anywhere else? The job market is scary right now, but that’s what severance is for. Being unemployed and looking isn’t as scary when you have enough money to get you through several months. Thinking like this has completely shifted my perspective on layoffs.

No layoffs before November

At least judging by the fact that no WARN has been filed yet. That gives us still more time to put things in order and try to find something else, if there’s anyone left who hasn’t already been working hard on alternatives. The job market is terrible right now, yes, but there are always options, especially if you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone. The only truly useless thing in this drawn-out drama is to sit around worrying and panicking.

Recent College Grad Afraid of Layoffs

Hi all. I would appreciate helpful and constructive criticism, not bullying as I have seen in some posts here. We can all remain civil while being in disagreement.

I worry about layoffs and this is my first corporate job. Does Charles Schwab always provide severance when someone is let go? What does that amount look like? Please feel free to provide your professional feedback as I am always looking for ways to grow.

It's too much

I’ve had it with this place and I’m pushing hard to find something else. Even with a rough job market, I can’t stay here any longer. Constant layoffs are draining and I really need a job where I can focus on my work, even if it's for less pay. Thanks, Cisco, for bringing me to the point I never thought I'd be in.

Laid off after 11 years - and I feel relieved

The anxiety had been building to a peak by the time I got notified. And at that moment, I realized I didn’t actually want to work here anymore anyway. Not a coping mechanism, just a sudden, clear realization that not only had I stopped caring about my job here, but there’s really no meaningful future for most of us at Oracle. So, good riddance.

Anyone here work in ECMO?

That's where I worked before I left WF. Wondering if they are being affected by layoffs. I keep getting emails from temp agencies for what was essentially my same job, only for less money. Is that WF's strategy -- to get rid of permanent employees to replace them with temps? The emails for this position keep coming. I've received at least a dozen emails from five or six temp agencies, so they must be having a hard time getting people.

Niagara University faces layoffs

Niagara University confirms staffing cuts as part of a strategy to ensure 'long-term strength and stability'.

"Don't take it personally"

I heard one coworker tell that to another who'd just been laid off yesterday. He was actually trying to comfort him. The guy we lost has 12 years experience, the one who said not to take it personally has been here for a year and to say he still can barely do anything without somebody holding his hand would be an understatement. And now hearing this, I'm even more convinced he's nothing more than an id--t. And he's still here. Fu-k this place.

Lumpsum only?

Does Dell do rolled over paychecks or only lumpsum?

I’m trying to know if I can extend my unemployment days for Visa reasons.

No one asked but I’m actually relieved from the WFR, I have been preparing for a few months and now I get to get the big fat Sev package so thats sweet
