Remote workers

There will be announcements made early 2027 that you will either work in a Truist office or you will be out of a job. They will be calling people individually next year, giving the ultimatum, either move to one of the locations, come into the office daily, or you will be let go.

Employment up, yet companies keep cutting

Major U.S. employers issued the fewest layoff announcements in May. USA TODAY tracked 250 mass layoff notices affecting 32,000 workers. Spirit Airlines accounted for nearly 7,000 of these job cuts. The airline announced a shutdown and ceased all flight operations. This occurred despite U.S. employers adding 172,000 jobs in May.

Retail IT

I’m hoping for some honest feedback. I recently applied for a role in the Retail IT department at Walgreens, but I walked away with a really bad feeling about the hiring director and the overall environment. I’m wondering if pursuing this opportunity might be a mistake.

Prescreening for jobs

When did CVS start using HireVue for prescreening?
For anyone lucky enough not to know, it’s where you record yourself answering interview questions while an AI quietly judges you. Essentially a corporate Tinder.
This is a director level posting, not a role getting hundreds of entry-level applicants. I’ve been here over 20 years, and I only apply to things I actually care about—not panic-clicking “apply” at midnight. My skills were a great match for the role. I’m also not eager to risk awkwardness with my current manager just to get rejected because I didn’t maintain “optimal eye contact with my webcam.” Its a lateral move so I really need a two-way conversation with HR first to assess compatibility.
I was told it’s mandatory, so I withdrew.
Am I overreacting? Is this just the times? I get it AI is everything now but I feel certain circumstances should not be using this route to weed out candidates. Id love to hear from those who think this is a great idea because I must be missing something and some day I may very well HAVE to use it..

Crown Career Barometer

Here it is…The first week of June and a quick look at the career section of Crowns website shows eight openings…split between half in Houston and the other half in Canonsburg. Nothing in the field…nothing remote. Any chance at a lateral move out of the Midwest area?

US Job Market Improves: Openings Up, Layoffs Down

US job vacancies showed a notable increase in April. The number of available roles climbed to 7.62 million. Job separations decreased to 1.69 million. This suggests a robust labor market. A single sector, professional services, drove most of this rise.

D&S sc--wed me

D&S totally sc--wed me. Spent months telling me they had. A job lined up and then at the last minute changed the job to something totally different that we hadn’t even been talking about. My new job is a job I do not enjoy. There were several better jobs that I had support for but was not considered for because of the job they claimed was lined up. The best one a good friend of my D&S contact somehow ended up getting. Thanks for nothing D&S.

Is your Manager notified if you apply for another internal job in workday?

I'm considering applying for another internal job but not sure if I will get an interview. I want to ensure I get an interview before letting my boss know that I applied for a job.

Does anyone know if workday notifies your manager as soon as you apply for another job?

Allstates job titling

Why is it that in this company when people are called architects they're nothing more than admin assistants or when they're called engineers they're nothing more than non-technical analysts and why is it that these architects are performing administrative actions for these engineers while being denied access to provide valid implementation instructions?

Why are such efficiencies continuing to be the status quo and not replace by automation to remove these unnecessary administrative task items let alone the non-technical analysts who provide no value other than following steps on how to push buttons?

How is anyone supposed to be employed on this model for long periods of time let alone be considered a valid representative in their tradecraft?

This looks like a house of cards that's waiting to fall down due to a gust of wind or somebody walking by.

Is AT&T any better?

Has anybody here worked at AT&T? I might have a chance to make the switch, but reading through their page here makes it seem like I’d just be jumping from the frying pan into the fire. I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone with firsthand experience before I make the decision.

Veterans Betrayed

Just thinking about this on Memorial Day...
HCA Healthcare spent years telling everyone how much they "support our veterans." They joined big programs like Hiring Our Heroes, bragged about hiring tens of thousands of veterans and military spouses, got all the awards, and used it for great PR. "We know the positive difference veterans make" — their words, not mine.
A lot of us took those jobs. We brought the same discipline and work ethic we learned in the service into their hospitals and offices. For a while, it felt like they actually valued that.
Now this Memorial Day, while we're remembering the people who didn't make it home, HCA is busy building a huge new center in Hyderabad, India. They're pouring in $75 million and planning to hire thousands of people there for IT, finance, accounting, HR — all the back-office work that used to be done here.
At the same time, American employees — including some of those same veterans — are getting laid off and forced to train their replacements. The company calls it a "small portion" of the workforce, but it doesn't feel small to the families losing their income right here in the U.S.
It feels like a slap in the face. They were happy to wave the flag and hire heroes when it looked good. Now that they see cheaper labor overseas, those same people are apparently disposable.
I’m not saying every job should be protected forever, but this one stings. Especially today. Their Facebook post feels insincere.
If you’re a veteran who worked at HCA, or you know someone who got caught up in these cuts, you’re not alone in feeling betrayed by this.
Just doesn’t sit right.

I'm waiting ..

I've decided it's in my best financial interest and after looking at my entire career here that I should wait until they at least offer an interest in leaving. I'll have the 6 month severance and enough time to find another job of which skills are in high demand and with military background could go back into private contractor. Good luck everyone!

US Weekly Jobless Claims Decrease

US applications for unemployment benefits decreased last week. Filings fell by 3,000 to 209,000 for the week ending May 16. This figure is lower than analysts' forecasts. Layoffs remain historically low despite ongoing economic uncertainties. Inflation and global conflicts contribute to market instability.
