Look, I'm over fifty and I've seen the cycles here. You bust your gut for years, hit your targets, and then watch rounds of layoffs target the highest pay brackets anyway. It really makes you question why you should pour extra energy into a place that seems to value your cost over your contribution. Frankly, most of us at this stage are protecting our energy and just meeting expectations while we plan. It’s hard to stay motivated with that hanging over you.

@q3 thats what made me switch departments and job class, you get that 10%. But after that it reverts right back to, "well you already got a big raise when you moved", which should have nothing to do with rating or review time. And you shine and it's just like the dept. you came from 3's. I'm convinced the agency model is su-king funds right away from raises. When a company overtakes you as #1 and doesn't have to pay agents (for the most part), you'd think leadership might pay attention.
@ax absolutely this! Why even bother having 4 or 5 ratings if no one gets it. Just creates resentment of busting your tail when the next person who does the bare minimum gets the same rating as you. But boy the execs make sure they get their bonuses. I still have 30 years of this cr-p to go.
If you are in ET, people will take advantage of your extra mile to get promoted. Always ONLY go the extra mile if your boss sees your contribution.
Do not concede to that manipulative promoted claims specialist to ET to take credit for your work. I say this from personal experience. They get promoted to lead and take advantage of mid level engineers since they do not have the technical knowledge.
Do not let that happen for the sake of your health and peace of mind. Managers are also extremely incompetent so if this person is charismatic and take advantage of you they will get promoted.
This is very important to understand for YOUR career progression.
We heard about ICP 2.0. More of the same coming
There is no point. Do only the bare minimum. The company is not loyal to you. Give them the same.
Only 4 years let to.go, can't wait to retire. Just trying to fly under the radar to the end.
Go the extra mile....how else are the Execs going to get a bigger SMIP and someone has to makeup for all the degenerates they are hiring. Work harder!!!!
@OP It's pointless when nobody gets a 5 rating and 4's are very rare. I'm retiring soon, was hoping for an offer but my dept. isn't heavy on staff, in fact its lite so retirement will be it. Not that it's a bad place to work, worked in much worse. After decades of working it's just finally my time
