Why does this company hate its employees?

CVE is run by arrogant corporate snakes. They are making money hand over fist. They don’t need to layoff. Employees are a necessary evil until they’ve used you for what they need. Everyone is out for themselves at CVE - they don’t trust you and you can’t trust them. Laying off a bunch of hard working people and arrogantly saying you will just “do less”. I’ve never seen such id--tic things. Is this company real or a nightmare? #USW #Strike #2026

Location strategy questions

Anyone know how location strategy plays into union employees/locations? I get it that their current contract has them working from home, but with management being required to come back, it would stand to reason the union would follow. And the union employees locations are not part of the location announcements we've heard.

Also wondered how the Frontier acquisition fits into location strategy. Seems like some major disconnects

No need for sarcastic or ignorant comments toward any side of the playing field, please.

Backlash over layoffs @ UCSD

UC San Diego Health faces backlash over layoffs of 230 workers

https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/other/ucsd-healths-230-layoffs-spark-safety-staffing-concerns-amid-union-opposition/ar-AA1Hlv5l?apiversion=v2\&noservercache=1\&domshim=1\&renderwebcomponents=1\&wcseo=1\&batchservertelemetry=1\&noservertelemetry=1

The layoffs, announced on Monday, represent about 1.5% of the health system's workforce and include a range of frontline healthcare providers.

Company: UC San Diego Health
Number of People Laid Off: 230
Locations: San Diego, CA
Industry: Healthcare

UC San Diego Health has laid off about 230 employees across its hospitals and clinics, representing roughly 1.5 percent of its workforce. The cuts included a range of frontline healthcare workers such as pharmacists, clinical social workers, and laboratory scientists. The health system said the decision was driven by financial pressures, citing federal policy changes, regulatory uncertainty, and rising costs of care.

The move has sparked backlash from labor representatives, who argue that layoffs will worsen existing staffing shortages and jeopardize patient safety. Union leaders warned that reducing staff could increase the risk of diagnostic errors and leave nurses and other providers overwhelmed.

Some employees were reportedly dismissed mid-shift with little notice. One former IT staff member described being handed paperwork, given a few minutes to collect his belongings, and then escorted out. Workers and unions alike expressed concern that patients seeking care at one of the region’s top hospitals may not realize the strain staff are under behind the scenes.

So I believe there will be a Eisp for union employees

So the opinion is that with contract coming in next summer the company would never offer a buy out .I believe the whispers I hear of the opposite. What better time scare the guys who been on the fence with the possibility of a strike .Then you lower the already low numbers right before a strike with a package they can’t refuse. The real bargaining issues are already retiree issues !!!So the company knows this retiree issue is now the biggest issue to deal with!!I would be on the look out for a union associate package in oct.Along with tons of management buyouts. The Verizon motto Less headcount is already well on its way

Good Call on the Strike

https://www.reuters.com/business/world-at-work/boeing-defense-plans-replace-striking-workers-with-new-hires-2025-09-04/

They are so critical they can't be replaced...oh wait, they can and will be replaced.

Union mentality is the gift that keeps on giving.

Who voted for these contracts?

The vast majority in my union that I ask says they voted no, but our contract was supposedly ratified 54% yes. I do not understand why did so many union members ‘supposedly’ vote yes to contracts that did not at least equal the previous one? What happened to the determination and the will everyone had just a couple years ago to strike? Is over 50% of union members happier now than they were a couple years ago? Has anyones work conditions improved enough (or at all?) since the last contract that you accepted smaller pay increases?

should we work hard or should we unionize?

I mean like why work hard at all?

I mean I think as a nation all workers should do everything they can to interfere and hold up the employers because they have all the power.

in fact everything we should do should be to confound and frustrate the enemy, our employers: join a union

now's the perfect time to join a union because that would pi-s them off the most

how fu---d would they be if we all quit right now? https://youtu.be/CXskNwIstGw

Overcommitted Performance

I’ve heard factories are being asked to cut >$50M yearly while still ramping, that’s an extreme target. In the semiconductor space, savings of that magnitude usually come from headcount reductions, vendor contract restructuring, consolidation of manufacturing operations, etc.
Trying to hit that scale of savings during a ramp is especially problematic because ramping fabs need additional headcount, training, materials, and spare parts. That makes it contradictory: the fabs are being asked to grow output and shrink cost simultaneously.

Mohammad Yunus’s reputation (reducing headcount in Assembly/Test in Asia) suggests a playbook of workforce reduction as the primary lever. Bringing that mindset to U.S. fabs is dangerous and reckless from a senior leader driving knowledge drain. I’m surprised employees are not organizing to join Unions.

TI may have set itself up by over-promising Wall Street and under-investing in scalable cost infrastructure. The resulting “savings at any cost” mentality risks not only operations, but also employee trust and legal exposure.

Union!

I know its been said here many times and I know people do not have enough gumption or unity to do it but the only thing and I mean the only things that brings these useless ba----ds to their knees is a union. It is what they were designed to do. I hate them but I think the time is coming again for them to start gaining traction. The workforce today does not have any say or a fair shot at decent treatment by their employer. I hate it when people on here say go find another job. For most that is not an option because the system has become so rigged and it's all the same scam regardless. Age discrimination, AI screening job applications, DEI, and just all the other barriers they have put up. All the Execs work together in step...the worker just hasn't gotten smart enough to do it in places like SF, AT&T, Chase, etc... Amazon workers are trying and so are Starbucks but face hurdles with the big shots trying to subvert them at every turn. I think if only a handful of people would genuinely approach it with co-workers most would get on board. I know just wishful thinking. It would bring an end to their reign of te---r on the American worker.

As You Are Being Laid Off and Outsourced….

Remember that the top five Edward Jones executives in 2024 received over $100 million dollars. The time to unionize is now to ensure the front line employees don’t get robbed by the home office C-suites and GP’s. Ted Jones is spinning in his grave… something, something, something splitting work not profits lol.

Our Security is in Our Own Hands!

After nearly 5 years here, my role is being eliminated. While executive pay has exploded, we've faced freezes and now these layoffs. It’s clear: the company protects its own interests, not ours.

The only way to secure our futures, our fair compensation, and our dignity is to form a union. A union gives us a real voice and a legally protected seat at the table.

How to Start at Edward Jones:

Our two-person branch model is challenging, but it is absolutely possible for a Financial Advisor and a Branch Office Administrator to form a union together. You are a bargaining unit.

Short Instructions for a Two-Person Branch:

  1. Talk to Each Other: You and your BOA/FA must both agree you want a union. You need a majority to form one—in a two-person office, that means both of you.
  2. Contact a Union: Reach out to an established union that represents financial workers. They will guide you through every single step for free and in complete confidence. They are experts in helping small units like ours.
  3. Sign Authorization Cards: The union will provide cards. You both sign one to officially show your support. This is the key legal document.
  4. File with the NLRB: The union will help you file a petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to be recognized as your official bargaining representative.

This is not about being against the company; it's about being for each other. It's about getting the respect and security we've earned.

Merck Millipore technicians start industrial action after pay cut claims
Merck Millipore
News
/ 19th August 2025 /
George Morahan
Technicians at the Merck Millipore plants in Co Cork have commenced industrial action after the company implemented changes to pay and conditions.

The Connect trade union said some of its members employed at the life sciences equipment supplier's Carrigtwohill and Blarney plants were subject to pay cuts of up to 20 per cent.

Advertisment

Merck Millipore has denied there has been any "unilateral changes" to terms and conditions including salary as claimed by Connect.

"Our members were left with no alternative other than commencing industrial action after the company unilaterally changed terms and conditions. This included the cutting of 20 per cent in pay from maintenance technicians at the Blarney site," said Mark Dobyn, regional secretary for Connect.

“We have reached out to local management a number of times to engage on the changes being sought. However, the company has completely refused to engage with our Union and unilaterally changed our members' employment conditions without any proper consultation. This is a completely unacceptable situation.”

Business Bulletin

Dobyn said that staff taking industrial action would not cooperate with the company on a number of fronts and would not attend meetings with management.

“Both our Union and SIPTU have sought to use the industrial relations machinery of the state to resolve these workers' difficulties with their employer. This included a successful Labour Court case which resulted in a recommendation that the company should engage with our Unions as our members have demanded," said Paddy Kavanagh, general secretary at Connect.

“This situation once again illustrates the issues with workers’ right to union organisation and representation in Ireland.

Advertisment

"Our members will now seek to achieve the respect they deserve from their employer through the intelligent use of industrial action.

"If this does not achieve the necessary results, we will back our members in whatever escalation they decide upon.”

IT employees’ union claims 30,000 job cuts, plans global action

The Union of IT & ITES Employees (UNITE) protested against TCS, alleging potential job cuts affecting 30,000 employees, a claim TCS denies, stating the reduction is around 2% of its global workforce. Supported by CITU, UNITE demands government intervention and warns of a larger layoff scale, while TCS emphasizes restructuring for future readiness with severance packages.

Oshawa Layoff in 15 Bullets

  • GM is cutting 750 jobs at its Oshawa Assembly Plant due to U.S. tariffs, moving from three shifts to two starting this fall.
  • The plant currently employs around 3,000 people, and the change could ripple across the supply chain, affecting another 1,500 workers.
  • Unifor union president Lana Payne condemned the decision, calling it reckless and accusing GM of trying to gain favor with Donald Trump.
  • GM confirmed 700 workers will be impacted, but avoided using the term "layoffs," saying it will support affected employees through the transition.
  • The cuts are linked to a 25% tariff imposed by President Trump on all vehicle imports to the U.S.
  • GM says the move is based on forecasted demand & trade conditions, and the plant will refocus on building trucks for Canadian customers.
  • The Oshawa facility builds Chevrolet Silverado trucks, which are also produced in the U.S. & Mexico.
  • Payne said GM is required to provide six months' notice and that the union will fight the decision during that period.
  • Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed sympathy & warned of consequences for companies not acting as partners in protecting Canadian jobs.
  • Payne called GM’s timing premature, given that Carney & Trump are scheduled to meet soon for trade talks.
  • Unifor urged the government to reconsider GM’s tariff-exempt status under Canada's remission framework.
  • Ontario Premier Doug Ford called the news “extremely tough” but said GM reaffirmed its long-term commitment to the Oshawa plant.
  • The Windsor Stellantis plant is also shutting down temporarily, though no connection to tariffs was made.
  • A recent update clarified that CUSMA-compliant auto parts are exempt from the 25% tariff, but Payne says this does nothing to help Canadian assembly plants.
  • The union believes GM will reduce exports to the U.S. & shift Oshawa’s focus to the Canadian market, which may not match American demand levels.

The need to unionize

Unionizing is about empowering workers to have a stronger voice in their workplace. At Chevron, as skilled engineers, we drive the success of the company, yet many of us feel that decisions about pay, benefits, safety, and working conditions are made without our input. Unionizing allows us to negotiate as a collective, ensuring fair wages, better healthcare, improved safety standards, and job security. It’s not about being against Chevron but about ensuring that we, the workforce, have a seat at the table to advocate for our rights and well-being. A union is the most effective way to ensure that the value we bring to the company is recognized and respected, while also fostering a workplace where everyone can thrive without fear of retaliation. Together, we can build a stronger, fairer future for all employees.

Please, come here and post you're averages of averages as if they are solid numbers along with the Apples to rotten pumpkins comparisons of yearly salary % increase (or lack there of) to the % cost of healthcare increase and let people freak out. I love pandemonium.

I am on track to also gross a paltry $140k, my entire Benefits package jumped a WHOPPING $23. FML I better take out a second mortgage. This 5% increase (of benefits cost) is going to ki-l me!
