Wikimedia Foundation Layoffs Prompt Editor Strike Threat

The Wikimedia Foundation disbanded its six-person Community Tech team. This team was responsible for developing moderation tools and bug fixes for Wikipedia. Hundreds of Wikipedia editors are now discussing strike action in response to the layoffs. Editors criticize the foundation's decision despite its nearly $300 million in assets. A strike could significantly increase vandalism and content issues on Wikipedia.

ProPublica Union Stages 24-Hour Strike

Unionized ProPublica staff began a 24-hour strike. They are protesting issues including AI use, layoff protections, and wages. The ProPublica Guild unionized in 2023 and is negotiating its first contract. Management's unilateral AI policy prompted an unfair labor practice charge. This marks the first work stoppage for the nonprofit newsroom's employees.

I voted no and here is what happens next.

It took 8 years for the union to get ba--s after the terrible 2008 contract. 2016 we went on strike and made modest gains.

We lost those ba--s.

8 years from now, Dan or whoever, will invoke the spirit of Lowell and come after us again. We should have stood our ground now so we won’t need to do it in 8 years. We could have made REAL gains today but now we will make only modest gains going forward.

When are Mgmt Emergency Work Assignments (EWA) being announced?

Management here. I've been here for the last two strikes. For the last one, I recall getting my assignment fairly early in the year, and having to attend 8 days of on-site training at the Virginia center in the spring. They also told us not to make vacation plans around the potential strike time.

With a potential strike coming in August, why haven't assignments been released? Is anyone even working on that? Or is everyone assuming there will be will be a contract signed or negotiation extension?

Anyone have info on contract talks

I’m concerned about where this extension is headed .Would like to know if there maybe a strike or not .Im holding off doing anything with my personal situation till we know. Its getting kinda old sleeping in the garage parking lot and showering in the bathrooms .Unfortunately cannot make a commitment till sure I won’t be out of a pay check.Unfortunately situation was made worse by divorce so would prefer not to have to strike but we haven’t been given any info

Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today…….

… to say goodbye to a once great American icon, a Verb, a company once known as the pinnacle of innovation and success.

We recognise the lies, deceit, outright greed of the CEO and his SLT, their incompetence has no bounds, no reason, no ethics, no morals.

They treat their staff as collateral damage, every extra month for his team is another bloated pay check, every quarter another stock reward.

To everyone in our company, we need to rebel, we need to bring them to account.

Down tools and have out very own General Strike. They can’t sack us all.

Time for a union

It's time the staff came together and unionised. Ubisoft are doing a global strike and TU employees should do the same.
Upcoming Pay rises except for India are a joke and below inflation.
Constantly increasing demand on staff, reducing headcount and expecting us to deliver more under constant threat of losing jobs.
Let's stand together, step outside and demand fair treatment and resignations of the terrible leadership we are under.

Are DXC execs very transparent?

You could say they are WYSIWYG ("What You See Is What You Get"). They openly tell you on Town Halls they aren't good enough to grow the company and its true every year. They do not apologise for their failure, in fact they condone their failures by getting more pay. They openly avoid the pay questions. They will not give you pay rises year after year.

Yes they lead people on by promising pay and review dates but they are clear it will not happen year after year.

Its time that the employees be transparent about the strike.

Are Schwabbies taking a stand?

Ex-schwabbie here wondering if employees are planning to group together and participate in the general strike tomorrow. As you should know Schwab is deep in bed with Trump and is so cosigning the atrocities happening at home and across the world. I'm just curious but not necessarily encouraging a strike... Just something to think about...

Networks Strike Update 2026

We are now seeing a number of people join us, its become clear to a wider audience that the Execs are taking the money and telling the rest of us its bad so no money for you. They cant have it both ways.

People are working out their lies. Hopefully more will join the strike.

Leg T CWA contract

The Leg T CWA contract expires in a few months. Will they settle without a strike? Who's got the upper hand? Is that power real or perceived? Is the company actually ready to replace workers via automation, off shoring, in house replacement, etc? If workers strike, would they just be doing the company a big favor? Will there simply be a contract extension? Will there be any real gains for workers? Are managers losing sleep right now over the threat of contingency plans? Do some workers actually hope for a strike just to have some unpaid time off work or to play the rebel role like social protesters? Time will soon tell. Does anyone have a crystal ball? What is the meaning of work life?

Salarié.e.s de Synopsys en France, mobilisons-nous ! Synopsys employees in France, let’s swing into action!

A few days ago, we got the news about Synopsys’ plan to lay off 70 employees of Ansys France. According to a comment on thelayoff.com, there will be another 30 of them planned at Synopsys France.
These layoffs are avoidable. We have the power to coerce the company into foregoing them, by means of a massive, renewable strike.

We have created a Signal chatroom for better collaboration. Read all the details in this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qUlsZjDHbJ49KPenYlJnq_MP4VYjaadGPVV1E6lvIn8/edit?usp=sharing

This is what Xerox Employees Should Do

So Xerox is trying to send all jobs to foreign countries and just leave SLT here in USA for their high wage, when in actuality their jobs should be farmed out for lower wages and better ability.
So think about this, force them to collapse, just walk out, all employees, and they have nothing, no more $14M comp. They will let you go with no severance anyways, let them get the same. Just like a union strike.
They deserve nothing.

My manager joined the strike

Finally our Networks manager has listened and agreed that this company will just keep shafting, delaying pay awards then will make excuses at the end.

His seen his colleagues wfrd in the last year, now his joining the engineers, his offered us free time off whenever we need. If you can't beat them join them. Other colleagues we request you join us, bring this $hit place to a halt.
