Why Is Tech Still Afraid of Unions?

Why aren’t tech workers in countries with weak labor protections organizing unions? The Samsung chip employees’ strike and subsequent payout amid record profits shows it works. TSMC workers may be next. So what’s actually stopping unionization in tech? At places like NetApp, it feels like a race to the bottom.

Community

To all those who are affected by layoffs this week, get through the call and take 24-48 hours to process. Don’t react poorly in the moment, nothing new gets decided on right there.

To people watching colleagues go: reach out to everyone you hear getting let go. Don’t “give them space”, just send some kind of warmth. It goes a long way.

Nobody is going to get mad at you for checking in, and it makes a difference.

The Brave People of FCRM

Shout out to all the brave folks in FCRM for speaking the truth about the simmering disastrous situation that has been ongoing for few years in FCRM that upper management has been confronted with it and had no chance of getting away from accountability and passing the blame onto middle management, playing dead and tone deaf like they had for so long. John will tell Derek and let’s see what they come back with. Power to the people, if they think meetings will be cheerleading and butt kissing like What happens with Charlie they need to think twice. The bucket is full and has been full for so long, they need to admit to the injustice, corruption and failures has happening that only their full selves and delusional minds can portray as success! We all saw it! Today FCRM folks fought back against injustice and corruption and deserve to be recognized for their bravery for speaking up and not fearing retaliation.

Don't accept the number

We shouldn't just roll over and accept this comp plan. If we refuse to sign off en masse, it forces leadership's hand. They can't ignore us if the whole sales unit stands together. It'll corner them into a rethink or frustrate them. We need to get the word out to the rest of the Dell team even the ones who aren't checking the boards. Don't let this new plan breeze in over you all.

Salarié.e.s de Synopsys en France, mobilisons-nous ! Synopsys employees in France, let’s swing into action!

A few days ago, we got the news about Synopsys’ plan to lay off 70 employees of Ansys France. According to a comment on thelayoff.com, there will be another 30 of them planned at Synopsys France.
These layoffs are avoidable. We have the power to coerce the company into foregoing them, by means of a massive, renewable strike.

We have created a Signal chatroom for better collaboration. Read all the details in this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qUlsZjDHbJ49KPenYlJnq_MP4VYjaadGPVV1E6lvIn8/edit?usp=sharing

Salary Transparency Thread

In full transparency, and in support of everyone trying to navigate the uncertainty right now, I think it could really help if we start sharing salary information. Having a clearer picture of compensation across grade levels and roles can empower all of us as we make decisions and advocate for ourselves.

If you’re comfortable, please share your grade level and salary as well. No pressure - only if you feel safe doing so. The more information we have collectively, the better we can understand where we stand.

We’re all trying to support each other through a really tough time, and transparency can make a huge difference.

My manager joined the strike

Finally our Networks manager has listened and agreed that this company will just keep shafting, delaying pay awards then will make excuses at the end.

His seen his colleagues wfrd in the last year, now his joining the engineers, his offered us free time off whenever we need. If you can't beat them join them. Other colleagues we request you join us, bring this $hit place to a halt.

DON'T BEND AN INCH

Go Colts and Hoosiers! Now that I have that out, time to get serious. REAL SERIOUS! iI was one that was going to try to tell our leaders to give and take because of our hard times. Not after reading these words! The insistence on not listening to what matters to us will help us not bend either in our contract talks. Hold firm union leaders and brothers and sisters.

Happy 🦃 Turkey Day

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on board. Over the past six months, being here has truly felt like being welcomed into a real community and a second family. I am grateful for the support, kindness, and everyday moments we have shared together.

Wishing you and your families a wonderful holiday filled with good food, warmth, laughter, and time to relax with the people you love. All the very best to each of you today and throughout the season ahead.

Time to Unionize

It’s been a long time coming, and the truth is simple: we need to unionize. The 1% at the top continue cashing in while we absorb the fallout of plans they designed and failed to execute. They walk away with bonuses; we get scraps and a pat on the back for “unused vacation.” That imbalance ends when we stand together.

You’ll start hearing more very soon. This will be the last RIF we face without real representation and a collective voice that can’t be ignored. Leadership only “listens” when numbers look good. The moment things slip, they point the finger at us.

We deserve protection, respect, and a seat at the table. It’s time to claim it.

Unionize

Repost:

If all of us do it, will they fire us all? Ai isn't ready yet and H1B's will have to be trained to do the role. In the mean, we could get a union to negotiate? Sign up and let’s all walk on Monday 11/10/25! - https://www.joinifpte.org/tech

Almost time

I know a lot of people are upset and venting right now, and that’s totally understandable. I just want to say that I really appreciate everyone here. There aren’t many spaces where we can share, ask questions, and stay anonymous. We’re all in this together — all of us unsure of what tomorrow morning might bring. I’m hoping I make it through this and that all of my colleagues and peers do as well. Wishing everyone the very best.

Hold!

As I enjoy the peace and quiet of the office at 7am I’m reminded of that scene from Braveheart. The English charging on horseback. William Wallace and his merry band of highlanders waiting for the inevitable sla-ghter.

Wallace imploring his warriors to HOLD the line, HOLD … and then bam up come the long spears and the tide is turned.

We must do the same my friends. Do not give into these cowards, those that want to take our freedoms and treat us like children.

Do not resign under and circumstances. They will be forced to capitulate if we stand together. Want us to quit DF? Kiss my hairy ar$e.

What if we all band together and refuse to work if anyone gets laid off?

Serious question. What happens if we are able to organize a strike so that none of us works if even one of us gets laid off? They need us to work. They can’t afford to lose all of us. We can stop the layoffs if we band together!! Enough is enough!
