Is IT Capable of Testing Precisely Outages, and Their Locale, in "Real Time" ?

Is there a way that either AI or, existing, non-Artificial Intelligence (NAI?) could indicate useful info?
If I could at least tell our customers, as well as the outside technician hunting down the trouble spot that, "All customers south of the utility pole at Main Street and Park Avenue are OOS."
and add to the outside technician's log, "Likely trouble spot possibility via our ever-vigilant 24-hour test monitoring personnel."

Is this forum just about sales layoffs or...

Could be wrong but, I come here often and read the majority of the posts/comments and it seems like the vast majority of people are in 1 of 3 areas. ISG, CSG or some type of Sales position. Being in IT, I'm not fluent in acronyms outside of my realm so,

I'm assuming ISG = Inside sales group, CSG= Channel Sales group, and then... general sales people like AE's, AMs, TSE, etc...

Where are the IT people at in here? (minus tech support. You don't count as IT, sorry.)

Yesterday’s equipment for tomorrow

They are ending support for the current corp phones soon. So if you have an iPhone 10, it’s no longer supported. Apple is releasing the iPhone 16 in a few days. But what does EM offer? Yup, an iPhone 14. Why can’t IT or Corporate Procurement negotiate better deals to allow for better dates equipment? Over time, the Corp is both wasting money on upgraded phones and also wasting employees time with subpar equipment. Make it make sense!

New Laptop Re-fresh: Dell laptops

I am not sure how it is in your region, but we are disappointed that first time ever, we are receiving DELL laptops as a part of the refresh cycle instead of Lenovo.
Maybe some in this forum folks have insights into what may be the reason.

Raises

Hello is anyone heard if RICOH will be giving raises this year? They have completely fallen off track with the cost of living and they need to do something to retain the workers that they have left.

Change my mind: Chevron laptops are increasingly becoming a bottleneck to productivity

The title says it all. We’ve got so much in the way of cybersecurity, spyware, performance monitoring, key logging, etc, that it’s negatively impacting the usability of laptops. Forget blaming the usual sources like Microsoft, or support, this is clearly a self-inflicted wound if you take a look at the application stack consuming a good percentage of your system’s resources.

Dock and undock? Best of luck with that. You’re in for at least a minute or more of zombie mode before the state change is recognized.

Standby? Good luck. Your notebook will continue to run in your bag despite selecting standby. It’s overheat or run out of battery which ever comes first.

Comedy Relief… I needed this one! ☝️

Oh man, folks, have you heard about the big shake-up at Kroger? Yeah, the grocery giant just laid off 1,000 people from their Technology & Digital team at that fancy 84.51° spot in Cincinnati. That’s right, 1,000 souls sent packing—enough to fill an entire aisle of unemployed techies staring at expired coupons. I mean, Kroger’s all about “fresh for everyone,” but apparently not fresh jobs for everyone!
And get this: The big bosses, Yael the CIO and Rana the Senior HR Director, couldn’t even bother to show up live for the announcement. Nope, they dropped a pre-recorded video on everyone like it was a bad Zoom prank. “Hey team, you’re fired—cut! That’s a wrap!” Professional courtesy? More like professional ghosting. If you’re gonna can 1,000 people, at least have the guts to do it face-to-face. Otherwise, it’s just a low-budget horror film: “The Layoff Tape—coming soon to a unemployment line near you!”
Speaking of executives dodging the spotlight, let’s talk about Rodney McMullen, the CEO who’s apparently got his eyes on bigger things. I heard he’s been making advances on Jewel the singer. Yeah, you know, the one with hits like “Who Will Save Your Soul?” Well, Rodney’s over here whispering sweet nothings like, “Baby, let’s merge our assets—I’ll stock your shelves if you stock mine.” But Jewel’s like, “Foolish Games? Nah, I’m not playing with a guy whose idea of romance is a buy-one-get-one-free on heartbreak!” Come on, Rodney, stick to scanning barcodes, not scanning for dates.
Anyway, to all those laid-off Kroger folks: Hang in there. Remember, in the grocery game, when one door closes, another one opens… probably to the clearance section. But hey, at least now you can shop at Kroger without the awkward eye contact from your ex-bosses!

Nexidia

So anyone know specifically why Nexidia hasn’t worked all week? They keep telling us that there was some ingestion issue and that they’re working on it but that type of issue has historically only had a few hour turn around - not days. Has their cheapskate behavior finally come to bite them?

IT Job Losses 2025 (USA)

The IT jobs most vulnerable to layoffs in 2025

AI is driving tech layoffs, but so far it looks like an adjustment leaning up to an increase in demand for new skill sets.

What needs to be done!

SM Energy needs to give people room to breathe because everyone is overworked. With AI and automation available the company should be helping employees. Not increasing their workload. the IT team needs to be rebuilt because people have stopped asking for help, knowing it is often faster to fix things on their own. all the strong it talent keeps leaving and what is left is undertrained and inexperienced. good people need to be kept instead of replaced with hires who require more training.

Mgmt should be cleaned out because the culture is struggling and expectations are unclear. communication from the top doesn’t always filter down and it makes the work harder than it should be. slow down, be upfront with expectations, and remember that client needs should guide the work.

FED tech support to be gone very soon and more jobs to be leaving the USA

I can confirm the rumors about outsourcing FED and PSONE are true , it slipped out in a meeting today.

And it gets worse: the entire IT service in the U.S. is set to be shut down.

Even more bad news : phase 3 will wipe out all Dell U.S. jobs in layered tech support, IM and SAM included.

For PSONE and FED, the target is August 2026. Phase 3 looks set for around January 2027. Phase 1 is already underway , they’ve started cutting jobs in the U.S., and the process is nowhere near over.

In short, it looks like Dell is shifting its workforce from the U.S. to lower-cost countries just to pinch pennies. The rumors about shutting down offices in OKC, Limerick, Cork, and elsewhere are probably true too.

Wave 4 Enhanced monitoring in effect

Enhanced monitoring/blocking for Wave 4 of Technology's Location Strategy is in place. All impacted employees will be blocked from:

  • Sending external emails.
  • Uploading content to the web.
  • Printing at the office.
  • Printing remotely.
  • Using removable media (USB/CD) on their work computer.

Tech managers can request exceptions if needed. If you're not sure if you're impacted by Technology's Wave 4, try doing one of those things.

Bad News for Technology Team

This goes out to the technology team at PetSmart. Your new EVP/CITO is bad news. Trust your own gut on GF's character. He comes in, and destroys any morale or comradery that exists, and then outsources whoever is left before moving on in 2-4 years to do it again somewhere else. Do not trust him, he is not there to help or support you.

Get out quickly and find something new. GF is a harbinger of bad news for the organization, but especially for the people currently working in IT. Look at what he did to the IT department at Express. All those jobs are now in Costa Rica. Best of luck to all of you.

Albertsons Layoff IT Department/EEOC Lawsuit

So my co worker who worked for the IT department of Albertsons was laid off after working there for over 20 years! They decided to replace their loyal employees for cheaper labor located in the Philipines...smh... meanwhile our computer systems are always down and slow when they work. When you call the Help Desk in the Philippines they don't know anything!

The accounting department is under staffed and the company is in a "freeze" for hiring. But ironically the company decided to hire a full time security guard to stand in front of the doors when we come through the front doors? Hmm.....there's also a rumor that another layoff is coming to the Deer Valley 2 building. Perhaps that's why they hired the new Caucasian security guard... this company is a joke!

I guess they are trying to make up for the lawsuit that was released on May 3, 2018! The EEOC is sueing the hell out of us because of an Albertsons store discriminating Hispanics!

IT layoffs are happening

Intel has announced record revenues and profits. But IT is laying off employees! Announcement has been made of 200 job cuts in Costa Rica. I am sure there will be impacts at other sites as well. Get serious and please post any news or rumors so that anxious IT employees can get an idea of what's happening - Admin

The Funeral Bells are ringing at UOP

We still are not hearing that directors and VPs are being let go. Today 65 finance advisors and 7 finance managers were informed that today was their last day. 1 manager and 4 employees of the student accounting department were also let go. Enrollment numbers are declining and the marketing, IT, and financial aid departments are definitively failing to do their jobs. The decline started when the Credit Suisse guys came on board and continued with the onboarding of the app Vocado and that wreck of a CIO who had no idea. It is time for the 'GOLDEN' parachute employees to leave without their parachute. They have caused the downfall of what was once a great university.

The package was weak

I was impacted by the lay off. Human Resources and Ariel the IT VP was cruel in the delivery of the layoff. On Wednesday those that were impact received an meeting invite without a name in the subject in the title (no agenda) and all those impacted names were on the distribution list. Our names were not obscured. The invite was sent at 1pm and the meeting was at 2. The invite asked that we be on time and don’t be late.

Once we arrived the VP gave a 30 second spill about reorganizing and that we are the first pilot group and there will be more to come. And that was it. He asked that we wait for our name to be called by a HR rep to go over our compensation package. The package was weak . And you must sign away your rights not to sue before you can receive your money. This company is in financial despair. On Friday they layed off employees in their Accounting Department.

#GOLD POST

#It might also be a paradigm shift. Only time will reveal what this really is. Shale Drilling + Renewables + Environmental Laws + Fuel Efficient Vehicles + Complicated Geopolitics did not factor into the supply/demand equation in the past. Oil prices might recover quickly, but they might also take 10+ years to recover, nobody really knows. COP might be doomed, but with a recovery in late 2016 or 2017, it might recover and prosper. OPEC has a mind of its own is unpredictable - no one saw this crash coming, and likewise no one can really predict what will happen in the next year or two. It will be interesting...

MLS gave notice in February....Daves top 10 why

Why would she leave?? 1. Cant keep cutting your way to a bonus after 2 years, needs sales growth which of course there is none. 2. Significant compensation tied to bonus and stock which is financial results based. 3. Stay too long you are associated as a leader of a loser organization. Leave on your best year. 4. Industry is dying and no way to reverse it. Every business initiative and project was a failure. 5. IT failures continue under her watch, even accelerated. Outsourcing failed because systems are way more custom and poorer than originally thought. Good IT talent left, bad IT talent stayed and Infosys and TCS were tremendous disappointments - can't code hello world. 6. CIO SS was her pick and he royally messed up IT and it will not recover. 8. IP department and experience destroyed, accounting department destroyed, store personnel destroyed. 9. KFarts/Sears/Office Depot/Max have taken over and wielding their magic that ruined their previous companies and 10. MLS was bright, talented and a go getter and there are much better opportunities in a growing company/industry for her skills - just watch.
