How often does this happen?

I was selected for a in house project to replace a old computer system. Being old we had low on parts, also the reliability was very low. If I’m going to do this right why not find out where the bottlenecks are and get a wish list and try to do my best.

When the system was ready for testing I set it up next to the system that was on line and testing can be done. Some people were excited and others started claiming I was planning on taking peoples jobs.
Needless to say the rumors got started. The system did go on line and worked well.

Cost Savings Measures- Are RIFs headed our way?

New direct labor ZERO OT policy is an operational disaster waiting to happen. It wasn’t built on output data or bottleneck reviews, yet site leaders are threatened with performance mgmt if deliveries slip. Requiring personal approval from unresponsive executives for every labor exception isn’t management- it’s creating a bottleneck in itself.

Flatter Org Delays Decisions

Managers spread too thin across dev teams become unavailable for decisions needed to proceed to next steps.

So developers wait a week for a standup to escalate a decision, which gets skipped by the spread-thin manager delaying resolutions further.

and the beat goes on slowly… until the team is dissolved.

What's with being stingy with info?

Some people treat information like it’s their personal property. If you need anything, you have to go through them, and they decide how much you get and when. It creates unnecessary bottlenecks in day-to-day work and just slows everything down.

I don’t want to escalate this, but at some point I might have to, because it’s starting to make me look bad for no reason.

My Layoff Update

I was laid off in November from the Midland office and it's honestly been a blessing in disguise. Fortunately I got hired on a new job very quickly but I do miss the people I worked with. With my new career path its so nice to be fully utilized and not be bottlenecked by discipline engineering and needing the approval of 3 different departments to do something. I forgot how nice it was to not work for a corporation.

Sales Operations is non existent

We saw yesterday the announcements about our new sales orgs. We need our sales people to now move FAST but there is no support. Sales operations is now managed by RB (reporting to loss-making-CB) who wouldn’t know a customer or account manager if he tripped on them. all the support groups needs to hire in low cost locations now as Bandy clown 🤡 says so and yet RB is managing that as well at a SNAIL pace. Sadly people are leaving and the gaps will be there most of the year the way this non-sales-non-operations works

Change my mind: Chevron laptops are increasingly becoming a bottleneck to productivity

The title says it all. We’ve got so much in the way of cybersecurity, spyware, performance monitoring, key logging, etc, that it’s negatively impacting the usability of laptops. Forget blaming the usual sources like Microsoft, or support, this is clearly a self-inflicted wound if you take a look at the application stack consuming a good percentage of your system’s resources.

Dock and undock? Best of luck with that. You’re in for at least a minute or more of zombie mode before the state change is recognized.

Standby? Good luck. Your notebook will continue to run in your bag despite selecting standby. It’s overheat or run out of battery which ever comes first.
