Starbucks filed a WARN notice saying 974 non-retail workers in Seattle and Kent will be laid off starting December 5, 2025, following last week’s disclosure of 338 statewide job cuts. It is unclear whether corporate or in-store roles are affected. The moves come as CEO Brian Niccol restructures to reverse a post-pandemic slump, with multiple Seattle closures including the Capitol Hill Reserve Roastery, which the company said shut for financial performance, not unionization.
Translation for locals and workers - nearly 1,000 jobs at risk in King County, timing locked by 60-day WARN rules, details on who is affected still pending. Watch for ripple effects in downtown and Kent warehousing and support operations, plus potential hiring freezes or transfers. If you are impacted, check the WA Employment Security Department’s WARN database, line up benefits and retraining options, and document timelines now.

What’s going to happen that day? Are they going to escort people out then and there or will people suddenly be called to a meeting and instantly canned? Will they tell them they have 3 weeks left of work before the canning? Will the contractors be canned on the spot?
Reduce target headcount to 50K next year to get stock up to $60 again. Ki-l internal designs with 18A and 14A due to conflict of interests. Only focus 18A and 14A on external customers to prove it is really working.
Who can do that?

"MTV, the world's first 24-hour music broadcaster, is to stop showing rolling pop videos in the UK after almost 40 years when it closes five channels at the end of the year.
MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV and MTV Live will all stop broadcasting after 31 December, the BBC understands.
However, the flagship channel, MTV HD, will remain on air, showing reality series including Na--d Dating UK and Geordie Shore.
The move reflects a shift in viewing habits, with music videos largely consumed on YouTube and social media rather than television. A spokesman for MTV's parent company, Paramount, declined to comment."
"Wider layoffs
Paramount is also expected to close MTV music channels in countries including Australia, Poland, France and Brazil, according to media reports in those countries."

After 3 weeks, the separation agreement is finally done. Dell is covering 2 months of COBRA insurance (they cut us off a full week BEFORE he was laid off).
How long did it take for y'all to get health insurance reinstated? We're in OKC and I've been without medication for a month now. It's way too expensive to pay out of pocket (thousands). I'm afraid it'll be too late to use it by the time they reinstate & backdate it.
My husband signed his severance paperwork yesterday (after waiting for 3 weeks for them to get it to him) and they agreed to cover 2 months of COBRA.
How long did it take for them to reinstate the coverage after you signed the paperwork? They canceled ours a full week BEFORE he was laid off. (They claim they are "looking into it") But I haven't been able to refill medications ($$$$$) or go to appointments for almost a month now. I fear they will reinstate it too late for us to be able to use it - with the backdating.
Can somebody name one thing that's better now than it was before layoffs? I'll wait.
After nearly twenty years here, I thought I had some stability. Turns out, I was just another name on a spreadsheet. I worked holidays, covered for others, and still got cut a few years short of retirement. It’s a rough reminder that dedication means nothing once the numbers stop adding up. I’m not bitter, just tired of pretending that loyalty still counts for something.
Company is gearing up for more layoffs, this time for Stamford right around performance reviews next year.
If you haven’t already noticed the gates in the garage are now closed and they open at 4pm. They do this on purpose to make you scan your badge when you leave.
Leadership is also keeping tabs of your time (not everyone has been asked to do this).
So! Take the train if you can to work. Everyone scans in when they first enter. When you leave the turnstiles open automatically and they cannot get a timestamp when you left, only if you drive in and leave before 4pm.
We don’t have Columbus Day off, company is greedy with your time and should not be tracking you like this especially with all these reorgs happening.
I'm incredibly frustrated. I got the news last Wed, but my "official" last day is the 15th and they said that's when I'll receive the termination letter...Very annoyed because my paycheck this week was half of what it should have been, since I was immediately locked out of the system and couldn't submit a timecard last week. Really frustrating when you have daycare, bills, and life to pay for! Has anyone gone through HR and gotten their time in so pay isn't disrupted? I should be on the books paid for up until 10/15. I'm just loathing having to jump through all the hoops to actually speak to someone in HR...getting a hold of an actual person is such a PITA
Oct09 4am UTC - Oct10 12pm UTC totals: 746 additions.
October totals: 832 layoffs, and 971 additions.
Methodology and day-by-day breakdown is in comments.
Early October so far, additions exceeded layoff floor estimate.
Does that mean our team got lucky or that we're now in danger for the next round since this one missed us? I'm hoping layoffs are done for this year at least, but it wouldn't surprise me if we hear about more next week or sometime in the next month or two.
They just let go everyone in fuel cell.

When will the Work Councils announce the layoffs to employees?
I have seen lots of managers VP CDL were laid off this week
Today i was told I'm being affected. 2.5 YOE with severance 4wks pay.
3 executives in marketing let go. Heard they are looking at all 29 and above for rounds 2 and 3. If you don’t have 5 or more direct reports you’ll be in trouble. Saying too top heavy
Will the majority of layoffs happen at Paramount Pictures, Paramount+, CBS, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, Comedy Central, or somewhere else? What are we thinking?
The never ending…
With the low oil price environment which doesn’t seems like it will improve soon, any news on the street if there will not be layoffs in Oxy? Any thoughts if the OxyChem sales will lead to headcount reductions in the upstream side of the business?

I hope you all land good jobs soon, where you’ll be truly appreciated. Times are tough, so I’m wishing you all the luck. Just don’t forget that it’s almost never about your performance or potential, but the usual corporate politics and greed.
Our host today is none other than the '5 o'clock shadow', and today’s question is:
What makes me excited to come to work at BNY every day?
Survey says…
The PEOPLE! (ding, ding, ding . . . great answer!)
Yes, the same people who’ve been driving our culture, transforming our engine, and—plot twist—being systematically offboarded to optimize shareholder value!
Because nothing says “culture” like a quarterly spreadsheet of headcount reductions and a celebratory bell ring when the stock ticks up 0.3%.
Culture now comes with 4 daily badge swipes per week, 54 hours of required new training, and a ghoulish labyrinth-style corn maze set up to ensure your non-compliance with HR and BNY Training policy requirements. Can you say: "NO SEVERANCE FOR YOU!"
Let’s break it down:
People drive our culture.
-- Especially the ones who remain after the reorg, the re-reorg, and the “strategic realignment.” Survivors of the Hunger Games: Finance Edition.
Culture is the engine behind our transformation.
-- And like any good engine, it runs lean, burns out occasionally, and is replaced every fiscal year with a cheaper offshore model.
Transformation is our purpose.
-- Which explains why every team meeting feels like a live-action episode of “Who Moved My Org Chart?”
So yes, I come to work excited—excited to see which department has been renamed, which colleague has vanished mid-email thread, and which new acronym we’ll pretend to understand until it’s sunset in Q2.
Because at BNY, we don’t just value people...
We VALUE them, DEPRECIATE them, and then WRITE THEM OFF — all in the name of transformation — VVV style.
So for all you kiddos out there young and old ... Trick or Treat and Happy Halloween!!!
Acrisure, a global insurance brokerage, financial services and technology company based in Grand Rapids, plans to cut 400 accounting positions in the first quarter of 2026, the company announced Wednesday.
Roughly half the positions set to be eliminated are based in West Michigan, with the rest stretching across Acrisure’s global footprint.

According to the Challenger layoff report, US hiring is at its lowest since the Great Recession, with nearly 1 million layoffs this year. AI gets the blame, but the deeper cause is decades of offshoring, financial engineering, and policy choices that depress wages while flattering headline stats. The template was set in 1965 with the Border Industrialization Program, maquiladoras importing inputs duty free, paying cents on the dollar, then re exporting with tariffs only on value added. By the 1980s there were 1,000 plus plants, Ford and GE shifted tens of thousands of jobs, and media reframed losses as cheaper goods.
Tariff cuts on Chinese imports in 1979 plus a new corporate mindset hardened the shift. Jack Welch cut about 115,000 US jobs at GE by 1985 and pioneered white collar outsourcing. The Reagan years touted job creation while more than 1.6 million jobs moved abroad, only 28 percent of new jobs were high skill, and young workers’ wages fell sharply. The 1990s added NAFTA and China PNTR, 879,000 trade certified job losses with true totals far higher, longer work hours masked stagnation, buybacks and options enriched executives while households captured about 3 percent of market gains and took on nearly 40 percent of new debt.
The skills shortage story enabled H-1B expansion and loopholes. Outsourcing firms used cap exempt affiliations to file year round and undercut pay, with 2013 probes showing 36 to 41 percent labor cost savings versus domestic hires. Today firms cite AI while filing thousands of H 1B petitions. Amazon cut roughly 27,000 roles from 2022 to 2024 plus 10,000 to 12,000 in 2025, yet logged 14,365 approvals across sponsor tiers. A proposed 100,000 dollar H 1B fee will not fix exemptions, contractor loopholes, or the 2017 tax code that still tilts savings offshore. Clarity first, action next, press representatives to close loopholes and demand truthful job ads, then keep building community so the pressure compounds.

3 yrs ago my children passed away from a rare form of cancer. This last yr my marriage fell apart. I've never even told anyone even close this at work. I dont want to be another sad story sounding pathetic, but I would very much like to be laid off. I want to feel something again, not numb, not seeing sad faces, fake faces at work. I've been thinking if I get a package I can go live in Mexico or something for a while, the people there seem happy. Any advice is welcome.
How do you think we are going to achieve it? By singing kumbaya? By cutting staff you fools.
Leadership are making decisions as we speak on closing camps in the US. 1000s of layoffs. Hal will never care about your family. Play their game and plan your departure ahead of time.
A majority of the posts on here are about Paramount. Has anyone heard specifics about what cuts are in store for the CBS News division? Streaming? Digital? Employees in satellite offices? Managers?
RIF happened today in MI, stated it was due to Marketplace loss
I am really worried that I will be laid off this year. I’m seeing all the signs of a company wide cut from TR and I’ve been here 25+ years. Performance has been good but they keep changing the standards and performance measurements. How do they usually do these things? What process can the unlucky expect?i
Is anyone hearing of ISPs getting hired back? Or was that just a ruse?
Stock price tanking. 700+ contractors let go with pretextual reason of "Sapience monitoring showed they were not being productive". There is no plan to back-fill the positions. Real reason they were let go was to simply cut costs! More cost cutting on the way! Watch out for stock insider trading. Execs will be selling stock soon!
