They cost too much. It's that simple. Companies prioritize immediate savings over quality and short-term gains over long-term health. That’s the core reason we’re in a downward spiral, and it will almost certainly get worse. There's no vision. No grand plan. Just a relentless scramble to cut costs and funnel money to the top for as long as possible.

💯 nothing said here was incorrect.
I can confirm this is the case that they get rid of high quality but highly paid people.
I was “with” this company nearly 20 years. Many on my team were with the company even longer than I. We were a great company until we were purchased by OptumRx. Within a year, they canned the whole team of nationally recognized rock stars, medical directors, nurses, pharmacists, etc They kept the dude (DH) who twice merged this previously wonderful company into OptumRx and devastated his team. He had done this years ago when he made out like a bandit when he brought Catamaran into OptumRx so this was rinse and repeat.
This Dan guy always expressed how important it was that he was honest and could be trusted. The team humored him for years. Everyone spoke openly about how Dan Ha-din is about as trustworthy and honest as a person playing three card monte on the street or a used car dealer who sells only stolen cars. Good thing is so many clients bailed that when you do the math OptumRx post layoff and post loss of contracts loses more money than had they kept the team and its contracts. Oh well, they and we all lose.
Point is: if you come from an acquired company your shelf life is measured in months and you’d be insane to trust your manager.
And if you think differently, there a simple word for that: su---r.
In recent years, I have seen several high performing employees be cut. I'm talking about folks who received 4's and 5's on their annual reviews and were dedicated to their roles and the company. It's not only the low performers that get the axe.
Everyone is replaceable. Some just take more time than others. Just ask my ex-wife's third husband. Take care yourself
Might be true in your area of the company but not in mine. Always the lower performers get RIF in my experience.
