Brand meeting, PHK dedication and inspiring message from the man himself

Cool inspiring events last couple of days. A window to what the best of Nike is all about. And what's possible.
Serena was freaking awesome. Authentic, empowered and empowering... she's the GOAT alright.
Wanted to note some positivity going into holiday weekend, so it's not all just bi--hin and moaning. I'm guilty of that as much as anyone else on this forum. But also want to show gratitude. Phil's email was a call to action but also a road map to greatness.

World Cup Nike vs Adi

Just watched an emotional video for the curaçao by Adi and then checked what we have and it’s photos of current / former players and different artists / celebrities . Really hope more is coming - this just feels sad 3 weeks before the start

my take is that Nike is too big!!!

Nike just kept moving forward for last 40 years at 90 MPH.

the issue with Nike is that they are too big. They are in every aspect of sports business.

Akin to adidas in 70s, Nike is too many things!! License product, performance product, non performance product, accessories, skateboarding, boutique retros, winter sports, team sports on and on.
Perhaps the winning strategy is cut out category that does not help Nike and not doing a good job as we speak or there is no future in it.

adidas was in so many categories including perfumes LOL in the 1970s. And when Mr. adidas passed the whole thing came crumbling down and gave Nike a hole big enough drive train by. Let's learn from mistake, other people's mistake.

streamline your offerings!!!

One of the worse collabs

I've seen post on here dissecting and criticizing some of the collabs Nike has at the moment. Some of which has been relatively successful, like the Travis Scott collab. I haven't seen anyone pick apart the Drake line tho. That may have been one of the worst investments by Nike.

Nocta has really been a lackluster for the Nike and considering how big of an artist Drake is, he's never been someone people looked to for style, like never. Definitely wasted opportunity there.

Employee Brand Deterioration

For those of you who are actively interviewing (laid off/still here) are you finding the sentiment towards Nike talent (you) shifting? Do you feel as if potential employers aren’t seeing Nike talent the same and has degraded from years past? I’m wondering as the stock has dropped, layoffs, and franchise struggles have occurred in the past couple of years, people are associating the talent from Nike either B or C tier externally… I feel like there was a time we were considering A tier or B+ but that has now fallen. I know HON sent Lulu stock down, is that isolated or are other feeling the judgement as well?

Short Short Sightened leadership

Nike - A marketing company - I seriously doubt!
Think about well to do well taken care off employees, across different regions. They should have been the best brand ambassadors of brand. Each well taken employee can easily bring more revenue by sales as people around their community beleive in the brand. But heck no... These thought process can only come from born leaders and visionaries...

Adidas vs Nike

Adidas told Kanye West to pack it up and took the hit. Cleaned house. Nike keeps doubling down with Travis Scott looking for a shortcut to relevance.
Adidas reports earnings and the stock jumps. Nike reports earnings and the stock drops.
Adidas is back to making gear for actual athletes. Winning marathons, on the feet of the best young footballers, everywhere that performance still matters. Nike feels like it is selling nostalgia and hoping the logo carries it.

Look at basketball. Adidas got Anthony Edwards. Electric, marketable, and compared to Ja Morant headlines he looks like a saint. One company reset and moved forward. The other one is going to to keep slimming down to greatness… make it make sense.

Two Adidas runners officially break 2 hour mark in the marathon!

For all the Nike hype and innovation that went into the Breaking Two event, I think it's pretty hilarious that it was a couple of ADIDAS runners that broke two hours and set the world record in the marathon in an actual official race!

A great achievement for mankind. Another failure for Nike.

Nike.com is joke

I went to check out the site few times and I cannot stop seeing that all Nike
is trying to lead you to item that they have. Not what I am looking for.
If I am looking for specific Nike then one would have better luck in amazon.

Nike is failing in their own website. There is more Nike in amazon then Nike.com

Desktop Image Policy

"New desktop wallpaper (background image): For brand consistency, this update overrides all previous wallpaper images you may have created and initially will not be able to be modified."

What in the absolute feck. We're not even allowed to pick our own desktop backgrounds anymore? Talk about micromanaging...

Major rebranding fail?

WTH is with the new name? Everyone I've spoken to says "sounds like a cleaning product". They are not wrong - there's at least a handful of random products out in the market that share the same name. You would assume that someone from branding would have checked. Ugh.

Not to mention, this is going to cause some confusion for the foreseeable future. Not the first time a company in our industry has tried to rebrand but that has rarely worked out well.

Dst is unknown

I was giving a lecture to UMKC students. I brought up DST as a locally grown company. Not a single student in the BUSINESS class knew of DST. They had no idea. Even after I explained it. Dst is just past history

Talking with some friends today...

and the topic of work came up. I admitted I worked for Wells Fargo. The first thing - and I mean THE FIRST THING one of them said was "they have horrible customer service and I won't bank there".
Now I admit I was a bit taken aback by that statement. I've been in some of the branches around here and they are pretty good, having been renovated and refreshed.
But then I thought to myself about all the cross-selling and accounts scandals over the years and it struck me. WF so seriously damaged their brand with those scandals (that we employees lived through btw) that memories are long and I don't think WF can do anything to fix it. I mean, if the first memory that surfaces is bad, in just a common conversation, what does that say about our employer?
Refresh the branches all you want, it won't help change people's minds.

Branding

We need to change the Xerox logo to Lexmark Green so that it doesn't think people of all the bleeding of money and people that is happening. Green is a much more positive color.

Converse Employees Face Layoffs, Restructuring

Converse employees were told to work from home this week. Layoffs and restructuring are expected at the brand. Converse CEO Aaron Cain sent a note to employees about the changes. The Boston-based brand reported a 30% drop in quarterly sales. These actions are part of Nike CEO Elliott Hill's turnaround plan.

boycott?

Would a boycott of Apple actually happen, or are folks too enamored with their gadgets to care? Is Apple a progressive company, or just a capitalist company? I was planning on upgrading a number of devices this year, but this made me think.

Before the DXC Q3 earnings call begins grab your DXC Bullsh-t Bingo card and listen closely for the following phrases:
“Strategic realignment under the new brand”
"AI-enabled transformation”
“Strong pipeline”
“More to come as the brand matures”
“We’re pleased with the progress”

What an absolute failure the name Truist has been

Years later and this abomination of a name is still struggling to gain traction. News flash, it never will. We’re never going to make progress with this name. It drags us down like an anchor and reflects poorly on both shareholders and teammates. In all these years, I haven’t met a single person outside the bank who doesn’t mock it. Even today, years later, the legacy names still have greater brand recognition and consumer trust - and they don't even exist anymore. Leadership needs to grow a pair and change back to one of the legacy names, even if it is to have a corporate structure like Meta/Facebook. I am a legacy teammate, and I don't care which one. Just pick one. They are both good names.

WTF!

I heard about this on our layoff page for my company and how y'all had 100,000 hits on one thread and like 4000 employees asking for your help. I came on here to look and didn't plan on commenting and wondered how y'all let this get this out of control and hurt so many of y'alls employees when this looks like an easy thing to do to gain y'alls employees trust again. Then I remembered the name of y'alls company and called my friend in our procurement and sure enough, y'all are a supplier. So now they are looking at this thinking they shouldn't be. Bless y'all but it seems like y'all should listed to your employees and take care of them. This is just not needed and it hurts what we call your 'brand'. SMH
