LA office to close

I heard from an AVP and SVP that T is exiting out of the LA buildings by early next year. It seems with the DirecTV sell off being completed, the company has no need to maintain office space or further operations there.

Anyone else located in LA hear anything? Are they being laid off and offered severance or told to relocate to Dallas first before that becomes an option? Does it make sense to relocate to Dallas in such an event?

Upcoming US reorg is just another addition to the creative attrition box

The goal is to cut people or make them quit. Every tactic that pushes employees out is cheaper than paying them to leave. Exxon has turned into an intricate matrix of exploitation and attrition pressures coming from every direction. No wonder it’s now the king of toxicity. And it’s not as if the job is worth going through the wringer for. A couple of years and done seems like the only reasonable way to deal with this hellhole of a company.

A Sad State of Affairs

So... imagine a team that's been cut, cut, cut. In half. Down to the bone. There's a hiring freeze. Alas, the manager has an employee who's a poor performer but can't do anything because a) the person can't be replaced (hiring freeze) and b) a layoff is coming and there needs to be a lamb to go.

Meanwhile, those who remain must work even harder to accomplish their tasks. Otherwise, those in charge crack the whip and say, "Why can't you deliver 'on time' to the arbitrary delivery date we dreamed up?"

What's really messed up is the leadership that thinks this makes any sort of sense. Ultimately, at the rate this company is going, the train will run off the cliff and crash at the bottom of the canyon because the only ones that remain either don't care or don't know how to put on the brakes.

A reflection from the GT EMEA trenches

Reading in one of the posts that there are “reservations” about the helpfulness or productivity of GT EMEA teams hits hard, especially now, in the midst of layoffs that are already testing our collective resilience.

Having overseen cross-geo value delivery teams for years, I can say with confidence that many EMEA teams have matured into highly effective, fast-moving, and quality-driven units. We’ve delivered value; not just outputs, by staying close to our consumers, our business partners, and each other. That’s not a claim; it’s a lived experience!

What I’ve learned from working in a global domain is this: when leadership becomes micromanagement, when governance overshadows trust, and when agility is reduced to a checklist, we lose the very essence of what makes teams thrive. We lose people. We lose purpose.

Simon Sinek puts it well: “You can’t manage people. You can manage a process, a project, a schedule, but you lead people.” Leadership is a human function. It’s about care, inspiration, and connection, not enforcement.

And yet, we’re seeing the opposite. While we speak of agility, we’re letting go of the very people who embody it. While we claim to value empowerment, we’re centralizing control. While we celebrate Nike’s people-first culture, we’re eroding it from within.

This isn’t just about GT EMEA. It’s about what kind of global team we want to be. If we truly care about value delivery, let’s start by valuing the people who deliver it.

1000 new hires in —-

India of course, where else.

Meanwhile in US, we continue to shed. That’s what happens when you don’t like coming back to office. Still empty offices, folks pretending to be “working” from home.

The high road

If you make 2 or 3x the average household income in the USA, then you should be saving and index investing that extra 50 or 66 percent. If you don't, you are living a risky existence for stupid material things that mean nothing in the long run. Look at all of these posts here on the layoff forum. Realize that you are only 1 bad management decision away from earning a goose egg for a living. I retired at age 52. Because I earned several millions in about 20 years of working as a software developer at Fidelity Investments, by investing in index funds. I didn't want to retire but my stupid boss wanted to PIP me. And I had enough money. And I had enough of his BS. And I had an option to get out of the working world entirely. Because of simple decisions like driving a 20 year old car. And working on it myself. And investing in index funds. So simple. The future is never guaranteed. The present is your zone to make the most of, in the best interest of your future self. Layoff forum is just a wake up call to make your future financially secure.

400 jobs lost @ Acrisure

Acrisure is right now cutting 400+ accounting jobs. Good jobs, well paid (relatively) - this is all gone - last day will be in Q1 2026... they are saying it's AI, workflows, tech advancements, etc... it's about 2% of the totalk workforce but I think it'll be more than this. They are just starting and it'll get worse.
