Northwestern to Pay $75 Million in Deal With Trump Administration to Restore Federal Funding

President Donald Trump's administration had cut off $790 million in grants in a standoff that contributed to university layoffs and the resignation in September of Northwestern president Michael Schill.

2026 Layoffs! Get Ready!

Boeing plans to lay off approximately 17,000 employees, representing about 10% of its workforce, in response to ongoing financial struggles and production delays, with significant impacts expected in 2026.
The layoffs are expected to affect employees across various levels, including executives and managers. This move is part of Boeing's efforts to stabilize its operations and address the financial strain caused by the prolonged strike and production setbacks. The company is also facing rising healthcare costs for employees, which may further complicate its financial outlook in 2026.

Layoffs and RTO

When are we going to call out this company for doing small layoffs to stay under the WARN number to keep it quiet and implementing RTO to make our lives miserable so that the EC gets the attrition they are looking for? Rick said no plans to change RTO in 2025 because he knew he was going to change it for 2026 and no large scale layoffs because he has a bunch of small scales ones planned. He doesn't want to be called a liar like Walt was but I'm tired of them not being transparent about what they have planned. This place used to care about employees but now its the same corporate McKinsey nonsense we see everywhere else. Executives getting insane amounts of stock compensation and trying to make it sound like we are getting a good deal getting less than three percent raises and an extra 10 percent bonus. 100k comp is comparable to 54k 20 years ago

They never thought about the viability of teams

Most of these layoffs made zero sense. Some teams were cut down to the point where they can barely function, and what’s worse is that a lot of the experienced, genuinely skilled people were the ones let go. Now whole groups are missing critical roles, people who actually knew how to tie things together and solve problems because they’d built that capacity over time. It’s not just about losing headcount, it’s the quality we lost that hurts the most.

Programs

We had a patient call the office and stated that she did not understand why she’s being taken off the supportive care program. She switched from a different insurance to a United healthcare advantage plan just for the coverage and whoever she spoke to just advised her that Wellmed supportive care is not accepting United healthcare so there’s no coverage for the supportive care within her benefits. It seems like they are letting the patients know in advance so they can transition back to the clinic and get scheduled in office before they do the layoffs.

Just a thought. Next round might be 12/18

Ford EV Plans

Ford canceled the F150 Lightning program. The new EV from LAP KY won't launch until 2027. The replacement EV truck in TN won't launch until 2028. What will happen to the BOSK battery plants in KY and TN. Layoffs will start soon if not after the new year.

Dystopia with AI Tools

Hot off the presses: If you don’t hit your quota AND you aren’t hitting 80% metrics with the “modern selling tools” (namely SalesChat), you are put on a “coaching plan”…. AKA PIP.

So dystopian. I’ve hit my number every quarter over the past four years, but I guess that doesn’t matter. I guess I am being paid to use the $hitty half baked AI tools instead of to close business & spend time with customers.

I’m no fool. Dell will unrealistically quadruple my quota and then rejoice as it opens up a means to cut me w/o severance. Yay for OPEX reduction!

I will admit: these AI tools are great for less experienced folks, but more tenured individuals don’t need to use the tools as much as the metrics they are setting. They do not replace experience. Dell is definitely going to overrate here and expect a freshie out of college to have the same production as me with glorious sAlEsChAT at their side.

This place is going down quicker than the titanic, and I’m enjoying watching while I quite quit and manipulate the metrics.

3 weeks from today

Truly sympathizing with anyone who is getting their last regular paycheck 3 weeks from today. The first time I got laid off in 2022, this feeling caused true panic but was short lived. I found another role, and then was laid off for a 2nd time 2.5 years later. That first missed payday after the layoff was brutal. It all worked out, but I am thinking about anyone having to go through this. Exactly the reason why I despise VZ.

Liberation Day in France

Today marks the end of ExxonMobil's presence in France, with the change in control for all remaining assets owned by US major to North Atlantic. There will only remain a tiny commercial structure with less than 20 employees. Esso France is dead, long live North Atlantic Energies.
Rejoice! This is the end of all the corporate bullsh-t people had to swallow for years (and keep smiling as if they liked it), the end of decisions made from 30'000 ft with limited knowledge (if any) of the local context, the end of dysfunctional organisations, having to deal with the incompetence and carelessness of “service” centers supposed to support you, the end of underinvestment in industrial sites making them more and more challenging to operate etc. etc. You know what I’m talking about, don’t you?
To all those in the EM world facing the same prospect (i.e. being dumped by big mamma): DON’T BE AFRAID. There is a world outside the fence of the prisoners' camp... 😀

History of Corporate America's Layoffs

For those of you too young to remember, he's the basic history of Corporate layoffs in America that all started with the government mandated breakup of the AT&T Bell System telephone monopoly on January 1, 1984 ("Divestiture" of AT&T's local Telephone Operating Companies, including Bell Atlantic).

AT&T Information Systems (IS) layoffs started in January 1984 that impacted ~25,000 employees with literally dozens of major rounds of cutbacks at AT&T following well into the 2000's. When it first began to happen it was literally a feeling of disbelief by not only by AT&T employees and their families, who were used to the benevolent Bell System ("Ma Bell") work culture, but also by Americans at large who couldn't fully grasp that the "contract" of employment for life was over at major companies. IBM soon followed suite and once they did the floodgates opened up on mass corporate layoffs which soon became commonplace and continue to this day.

The Truth Behind Verizon’s Layoffs: Funding the Frontier Merge Project

The recent Verizon layoffs are primarily linked to the company’s acquisition of Frontier assets. Verizon now needs significant capital to fund the integration of Frontier into its existing systems as well as to cover the acquisition-related expenditures. These financial pressures are the real drivers behind the workforce reductions.

Claims that the layoffs were caused by pricing competition with T-Mobile or customer poaching are largely unfounded and do not reflect the actual strategic motivations behind these decisions.

While Verizon attributes the recent layoffs to financial pressures from the Frontier acquisition and the massive integration effort ahead, there is another internal reality often overlooked. Certain internal groups “the termites” are using the Frontier merge as a convenient narrative to justify aggressive outsourcing. These teams benefit from vendor deals, back-channel incentives, and the opportunity to extract as much as possible from the outsourcing process.

In the shadow of the Frontier integration, these internal agendas are quietly shaping decisions far more than the publicly stated reasons like pricing competition or customer churn.

What happens to AES in Jan. 1st?

Starting another thread about 2026 and the future of AES. There are so many rumors about what's next: sell company to Blackrock, split renewables and sell off Indiana or Ohio utilities to Duke, new senior leadership & board, etc. Any of these paths will ensure funding is cut and "they" force more work with less resources. Again. Let's hear what other rumors are out there.

VZI Get ready to Brace on Dec 3rd or 4th- Its Huge

Approximately 2000 employees are part of this Layoff. All those who had approaching and needs improvement are on the list. If the 20 to 25% numbers are not met ,all other rules come into play. Be prepared. Training session for Directors and ADs will be given tomorrow or Tuesday and announcement will be post that. VCG is going to be badly affected. VBG, N&T, VCG Business, CSG, are equally affected by avg of 20% AI&D with the least by 15%.
There are going to be changes in AVP, Senior Directors , Directors when the Agile delivery to be rechristened with one more useless way of execution supported by all leaders who follow them BLINDLY coz they want to "try".
This org will only sustain when all leaders above Sr. Manager stop focusing on defects and start focusing on strategy, with inclusion at all levels get the inputs from all rather than "designated" architects whom they think can change the entire world. The team that is responsible for all this is the ATO and its futile process implementation which is not studied but rather theoretical. BTW i am Top performing for the last 2 years. so all the above is a frustration of me going to stay here with a load of work, loss of knowledge from so-called "non performers", loss of vendors who had been in the system for more than 2 years . Everything is boiling down to the people who are going to stay. A meagre call will be done under senior director or AVP to boost "MORALE" which they think all others are fools for their gimmick to be played. Its a wake up call for people like me to move on. Verizon is going into a blackhole which will also pull us into it, while many think this is safe haven. All that matters is "Shareholder Value" and nothing else. ALL EMPLOYEES ARE JUST NUMBERS. Get out of this number game.

Finally check this prompt in Gemini
"What if the 50% of the laid off people join T-Mobile or the 13000 people move their connections along with their family connections to T- Mobile"

Can'tsgiving

After the thanksgiving day off. it is hard to be thankful for working at US Foods for the first time in my just over 10 years here. I am here for work and see everything diifferently after reading all of these posts last night. My husband and I agreed that I should look for a new job because I woman of faith and I cannot honestly like making this company succssful when we can just wave off what is written on here about this Mr Kernel man. It is an insult to everything we are suppose to stand for. I have given over a decade to this company but will look to a new venture in my future where I can work for a company with ethics? I can't give any more.

Employment Lawyer?

Has anyone else who has been laid off in NJ contacted an employment lawyer?

The notification itself suggests to do so, but I don't know ehere to begin. I have no illusions about retaining my job, but want t9 be clear on certain things. For instance, it sounds as if yo get another job during the WARN period (internally or externally) you might forfeit severance.

Network Assurance

Dan & Executives! If you’re reading this please stop laying us off. Having 150 + macros sites is nuts. Good bye work life balance.

Also, how long until you do the same stuff as sprint and outsource network to vendors ? If you want to take Verizon to the ground this is the way.

Happy thanksgiving!!!!

Even more UK gaming industry layoffs

As confirmed by parent company Thunderful Group, Coatsink will be losing around half of its total workforce, equating to 50-60 roles, all because of "a more challenging co-development market" and as "the business is currently unable to support all existing employees."

Splash Damage layoffs

Known for its work on Gears Tactics, DOOM 3, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Splash Damage will be making significant job cuts. Staff have been informed and have said so about this on LinkedIn.

So many are gone

Between quiet quits and full layoffs, I’ve lost track of how many faces are gone. Every week another familiar name disappears and the workload just piles up. At this point I don’t know how we’re expected to keep delivering with so many holes. And the cuts keep coming.

Santa Barbara County Public Health Department pauses layoffs

The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department paused its plan to make layoffs and transition thousands of patients away from county clinics due to “unsatisfactory immigration status.” The decision follows an ongoing injunction to a change in federal law.
