Our future leaders are leaving

People I expected would be the next generation of leaders in IT are all leaving or appear to be planning their exits even if they appear to be in safe roles. I know some on here don’t care about IT but it’s going to continue to get worse as our best people leave for better options. 23 years with the company and moral has never been half as bad as it is now. Sad days for Chevron.

Time to make some tough career decisions

I know it's not a fun topic, but with everything happening, it's probably smart to think about your next move. For some of us, that might mean taking a step back to learn new skills or even switching to a role with a better long-term future, even if the pay isn't perfect right now. The goal is to make sure you're still valuable on your own terms for the rest of your career. It's not fun, but that's what I've been focusing on.

This is the future

Somebody asked in another thread if we're going to do quarterly layoffs until only Atty is left, and frankly and sadly, I think that's much closer to the truth than the poster intended. The way things have been developing, it seems that we've reached the stage where layoffs, instead of only being used when absolutely necessary, have become something used regularly just to pad the numbers. That's our future.

AI Layoffs

Somehow, after being RIF’d, I’ve come to believe that if AI truly represents the future, it may actually bring more fairness and consistency to decision-making. Unlike human systems that can be influenced by favoritism or bias, AI has the potential to evaluate people based on clear criteria, data, and merit rather than personal agendas.

Future Plans

In contemplating my future after being laid off from EJ, relying on a small severance and my depleting savings, I can see how people do something to go to prison. They will have shelter, food, daily exercise, health insurance, no utility or car payments and, I can study for a degree - even a law degree - without incurring any debt. Maybe not a bad gig....I'll have PP and DC to thank for this opportunity!

H1B 2026 roles - what’s in store for us

Concerned what I see with companies this year with hiring & retaining H1B status employees. Trump’s shift on H1B quotas & increased cost is really encouraging most companies to avoid sponsoring H1B anymore. What moves will Cisco do with H1Bs in 2026, I getting more worried for 2026…

I'm Sorry Dave, I Can't Do That....

Hal2000 was conflicted in his assignments. I can't wait to see what happens when our AI models get surreptitious assignments with override codes like Hal2000 did. Yes, its coming!
"I'm sorry Bob, I just can't activate your account right now. You have been deemed a risk....please step aside and wait for the authorities....."
Yeah and there is no coming back from that scenario. Nope. None.

Are you planning on joining the employee stock purchase program?

I am interested in whether people are thinking of joining up.

My thoughts are that the company doesn’t feel very stable, the morale is low and I’m not really sure if growing the company is the real long term plan of our leadership. I still believe that we will be broken up and sold off.

So, I was wondering if I’m an outlier here and if others are feeling more optimistic about Solventum’s future.

Frequent layoffs hurt the company’s future profits

I know that Verizon’s future success is the last thing on the mind of the people who have been laid off, but someone commented that layoffs and AI will help Verizon bounce back and become more competitive. I cannot let that go without an answer. That’s not the case at all. Layoffs are just short term financial engineering so the leadership can report lower labor costs during quarterly earnings.

VZ had voluntary and involuntary layoffs every year for the last 10 years. If layoffs made companies grow, VZ would be growing like crazy and the share price would reflect it.

Jeffrey Pfeffer, a professor at Stanford Business School, had studied the available data and came to the conclusion that frequent layoffs hurt in the long run.
