If remote employees are grandfathered, then why did my department lose all remote employees?

Last year, all of the remote employees in my department were told they need to move to OH or MN , if they decide not to relocate, they were given severance.

They also were not given option to move to hub that were close to home such as in AZ or TX.

We replaced all the remote employees by hiring in OH and MN.

Also recently, I talked to people in another department and they were told remote was no longer available, move to hub or get severance.

So GK was right when she said remote was grandfathered, meaning you aren’t getting fired.

What she didn’t tell you was, to keep your job, you need to move to a hub.
Being in office is not good enough, must be in one of the hub

Samsung Electronics Job Cuts Amid HQ Move

Samsung Electronics has implemented job reductions across its U.S. consumer electronics divisions, primarily impacting employees in New Jersey and Texas. The company is relocating its U.S. headquarters from New Jersey to Texas, a move that has affected over 700 roles in the former state. While many affected employees have been offered relocation, some have been laid off. Approximately 100 workers in the Texas office, including those in the mobile division, have also been let go. These cuts occur as the company's chip division thrives while its consumer electronics units face challenges from rising chip costs and competition.

Business Update: 30 Remote DTFR Employees Laid Off! YAYYYY!!!!!

Finally received my 60 day non-working notice from Wells Fargo update after a Business Update meeting in Microsoft Teams. Super excited to be moving on! Glad I stuck around in Fraud (continued working remotely) after the Relocation Strategy email from corporate in February 2024 warning of these layoffs in the future. Delay after delay in DTFR, disorganized upper managers pushing out the date further and further. Prevent AI to date was a flop (but who cares anyways). Today I am happy to announce, I am done with Wells Fargo officially. What a ride it has been! Time to collect my hard earn money while I go on vacation and sip a Colada! Cheers!!!!!!!!!

Mars Job Cuts Follow Chicago Growth

Follow the Work Letter

Why do the follow the work letters that are going out have Dallas listed when we are moving our headquarters 20 miles north in Plano? That is like a 45 min drive just between the locations.

How inconvenient to require people to drive to the Dallas location when the location is changing in 2 years. Who even comes up with this stuff? It is like they are actively trying to cause unnecessary stress and inconvenience to their employees.

Excited to move to Plano

I’ll be moving to Plano, Texas, as part of AT&T’s relocation policy. It’s a big change, but the more I learn about Plano, the more excited I am to call it home.

Plano seems to offer the best of both worlds: the energy and opportunities of the Dallas area, without losing the comfort of a welcoming community. There are great restaurants, plenty of parks and trails, a growing business scene, and always something new to explore. It feels like the kind of place where you can build a career and still enjoy life outside of work.

Of course, I’ll miss the people and familiar routines I’m leaving behind. But I’m also looking forward to finding my favorite local spots, meeting new people, and settling into a different rhythm.

I’m excited to continue my career at AT&T and see what this next chapter brings. For now, there are boxes to pack and plans to make—but I’m ready.

Plano feels like the place to be, and I can’t wait to get there.

Nothingburgers

These RTO, relocation, and surpluses this year have turned out to be nothingburgers in the grand scheme of things. Nothing nearly as impactful as originally advertised. Just be in the right location and right time and you are good. Now on to the next challenges.

Chevron Relocates California Jobs to Texas

Energy giant Chevron is moving approximately 180 jobs from its San Ramon, California office to Texas. This move is part of a larger strategy to downsize its California presence and expand operations in Texas. The affected positions are designated as relocations, with a deadline of September 8th for the move. This follows a previous reduction of 68 positions in October 2025, bringing the total downsizing in San Ramon to 248 roles. Chevron's refining operations in California remain unaffected by this decision.

Lies and Deception

I am seeing First Line Supervisor lying about their move to Edmonton. They have already told their friends that they will not move. But, when talking to me, a subordinate, I am told how committed they are to move to Edmonton, and all the benefits of moving there. Looks like FLSs are allowed to lie without any consequence.

Handling uncertainty

Asked to relocate to save job. I have interviewed many places but unfortunately didn’t land any job. So it is evident to relocate. However I keep procrastinating that move, as I am being told multiple times here, that I will be cut after moving. Time is running out and I don’t know how y’all made that move decision and went forward. What was that one thing that got you out of your a-s and made the move despite of all these fears?

Who hates relocation?

All my young life we used to move every 3 years. Now I despise doing the same thing again after 10 years of not moving. Though it is progress and might be good for me, but I am unable to be motivated enough to move for T. Don’t have a second job or option but need to move. The place, weather and commute su-ks. It will be great for family but not for me Ugh..

Samsung Leaves New Jersey Headquarters

Samsung Electronics America is relocating its U.S. headquarters from New Jersey to Texas. This move will impact approximately 1,000 employees, who must either move or face job loss. Lawmakers and business leaders express concern that the state's business climate is driving companies away. They cite high corporate taxes and regulatory burdens as contributing factors. This departure follows a trend of other major corporations leaving the state.

Mental Health

With constant reorgs, reshuffling of managers every 1-2 years, people moving out of the company, and now asking to RTO 5 days in a different state, my mental health has taken a toll. Unless I was in Dallas this whole time, there was no certainty what my office location will be and where to buy a home. It kept changing every 1-2 years. Now after 20 years, I have decided to relocate to Dallas, as I couldn’t land any other offer. WTF I am doing? I have no clue, but just trying to save the job for now.

What is the latest status on virtuals?

Did the 6/15 surplus notice mainly target virtuals or those in hubs equally impacted? Did being in a hub such as Dallas provide any meaningful protection?

What is the latest status on virtuals? Also is everyone in the clear until the new Plano HQ opens? What happens once the Plano HQ opens? Are relocation notices going to increase then?

Moving

Unfortunately couldn’t land another job and relocating to Dallas. How do you know which school is good when every school is a 8 or 10 in Frisco? It feels like eeny meeny miny mo at this point. Any neighborhoods or subdivisions y’all recommend in Frisco or Plano?
