We're doing the work of two teams

After our team was hit in January, everything landed on the rest of us. Same deadlines, same expectations, but with half the people. I'm exhausted and every week it gets harder to keep up. When I say something to my manager, I get told to prioritize. Prioritize what? Everything is urgent.

How is this even possible?

I went to see how much the workforce has shrunk over the years due to layoffs and I found this:

2025 162,000
2024 159,000
2023 164,000
2022 143,000
2021 132,000
2020 135,000
2019 136,000
2018 137,000
2017 138,000
2016 136,000
2015 132,000
2014 122,000
2013 120,000
2012 115,000
2011 108,000

With the constant cuts, how the he-l do we have more employees than almost ever before?

I "survived" the cuts

I'm one of the unlucky ones who's still employed by this trash company. I'm now going to have to do the work of 4 people, and I'm already DROWNING. In our dept meeting they kept saying we'll still meet our deadlines and learn how to "do more with less". It's IMPOSSIBLE.

I sincerely envy my associates who were let go.

Is anybody else constantly worried about layoffs?

Even without any rumors, even without any announcements, all I can think about every single day is what's going to happen if I lose my job to cuts. I wasn't like this before, I swear. But with all the small and large cuts in the last few years, I think they broke something in me.

Any job is better than unemployment

I know many are tempted to quit with cuts and uncertainty but unless you have something lined up, don't. Even a horrible job that pays the bills is better than unemployment at a time when job market is among the worst it's ever been. Don't make the mistake of putting yourself into an even worse position on an impulse.

What month will Walmart lay you off?

Looking at the last 10 years worth of WARN notice layoff dates, here’s the most likely months Walmart will lay you off.

In the last 10 years Walmart layoff dates occurred in:

  • [ ] February- 2 times
  • [ ] March - 5 times
  • [ ] April - 7 times
  • [ ] May - 5 times
  • [ ] June - 6 times
  • [ ] July - 8 times
  • [ ] August - 5 times
  • [ ] September - 3 times
  • [ ] October - 2 times
  • [ ] November - 1 time
  • [ ] December - 6 times
As you can see, the six months from March to August seem to be the most prominent layoff dates

How many cuts before nothing's left

I'm watching team after team get carved up and wondering when this becomes unsustainable. They keep cutting deeper, and everyone left is just expected to absorb the rest. No one's asking if the work still gets done, or who's going to be around to do it. I keep waiting for the breaking point, but maybe we're already there and nobody's willing to say it.

Verizon Employee Breakdown (Extent of May layoffs)

Union - 27% (24,270 = CWA + IBEW)
India + EMEA - 11% (9,890)
Non-union - 62% (55,290 incl engineers, customer reps, sales and juicy Management fat @ BR)
Verizon Total - 89,900

Union - ~69% (8,700 = CWA + IBEW)
Non-union - ~30% (3,780)
Frontier Total - 12,600

Assuming the unions cannot be touched, is it reasonable to expect future cuts to be amongst the (55,290 + 3,780 = 59,070)?

**Based on all the chatter, assuming a 15% hair cut that equates to ~8,860
