Open Thread for June 1st RTO:

Here we go! Day one of ELT's move to get more of us to quit. Post your concerns, complaints, funny stories, frustrations, etc in this thread so we can keep the comment section active for our neighborhood ELT trolls who love to lurk here (they are useless anyway, so might as well give them something to do today). Good luck everyone, and enjoy the collaboration this week! 🤡

PS. r/st louis (edward jones) has a post from a few days ago that links this site if reddit is more your scene.

Will the ELT ever pay for their decisions?

I’m still pretty angry, honestly. Looking back on all the BS we’ve been expected to tolerate over the years, shame on me for believing accountability would ever exist at the top.

Remember the data breach? The ELT lied to investors, employees, and regulators. The company spent hundreds of millions in legal fees and hundreds of millions more trying to clean up the mess and get compliant. Did anyone at that level lose their job? Of course not. They still got their bonuses.

Then there was EverFi, a $750M acquisition that eventually turned into roughly a $400M write-down when it was sold off. Another catastrophic decision. Again, nobody in leadership paid any personal price for the failure.

Now we’re watching good people lose their jobs while roles get shifted to India, all while leadership positions themselves for one last payday if the company gets sold. They’ll walk away with tens of millions in compensation after years of bad decisions. The rest of us get 8 weeks severance and COBRA.

At some point you realize employees are just pawns in a game where leadership can fail upward indefinitely while everyone else absorbs the consequences.

Get out while you can.

Spinoff or merger?

I’ve been thinking ELT is setting everything up for a merger, for awhile now. But lately I’ve started to wonder about a spinoff instead. All this talk about segments… core, new to wealth and high net worth. Think there might be a plan to create the segments in order to spinoff or sell one or two of them?

Tell the Truth!

Hey MW, just come out and say it that you want all US employees to quit so all that is left is you and a couple executives and the rest of the company overseas. We are big boy and girls and get it that your goal is to make us all so miserable we all leave. Its a guarantee its on all of ELT's PMPs to get all jobs overseas and to drive morale into.th4 ground!

Why does P.P hate us so much?

This woman and ELT seem to be working non stop to find every way possible to make our jobs and lives harder on purpose for no reason other than greed and contempt for the very people that keep this ship afloat. Is there nobody at the top level that has the guts to stop this vicious woman before she destroys everything? Even the branches are not immune to her insane decision making. It's like she hates all of us and can't wait to sell us out.

What’s with the employee survey?

Reading through the survey, it seems like they are trying to pay attention to morale.

Curious - what prompted this 180? Is attrition higher than they wanted? Are high performers leaving? Anyone have a pulse on the ELT?

Respectfully, why do they care if we’re happy to work here? They didn’t care last year. Seems like the new org is chugging along exactly as intended - standardization & attrition.

Next town hall with ELT

In our upcoming town halls with our ELT leaders, we have an opportunity to engage with them directly about their contributions to enhancing OpenText. We must ask vital questions: What steps have they taken to drive improvement? How have they earned the privilege to report to a CEO of a public company? What compelling reasons do they offer for us to unite behind their vision?

It's time to break the pattern of silence that has enveloped our leadership. We deserve to understand why we should be motivated beyond just getting a paycheck.

If our ELT leaders are merely a figureheads focused on reorganization and headcount reduction, we risk falling into a cycle of complacency where the bare minimum becomes acceptable.

If there is nothing to be excited about customers and good employees will just leave until what’s left are customers with weak IT staffs that stay on old technology forever and employees that don’t give a damn.

Our company needs an en--a or our fate will be drowning in our own waste.

ELT bonuses

ELT paid each other close to $1M each in cash handouts in Feb approved by themselves while employees were being laid off and offices closed. Let’s get going!

Refining Seems to be an Afterthought

Go Go and company have been traveling around the country talking to investors. They’re trying very hard to sell them on how great having midstream and chemicals is. And maybe it is.
The thing is P66 is a refiner before anything else.
Refining is hardly mentioned in these talks.
Elliott must be putting pressure on the ELT.

AI Irony

The Cisco ELT and multiple layers of bloat beneath them are waking up to the fact that the very AI they are so aggressively promoting will completely destroy their lives.

Each and every one of Cisco's business units are being actively replaced by a small startup using a tech stack that costs them less than $5,000. This is reducing margins.

Every white collar office worker that gets laid off is fewer access points, switches, routers and software seats. This is reducing recurring revenue.

Cisco is, in effect, destroying it's own customer base.

Expect the ELT to start aggressively rewarding themselves with stock buybacks, increased executive compensation, reduced benefits to employees and mass layoffs to provide immediate short term boosts to the stock price.

ZG joining DE at Alvarez

OMG! Another one of our former ELT is joining A&M. The same BT firm we wasted millions of $$$ on. There must a a conflict of interest or under the table deal. Pay the millions, when BT doesn’t work and you jump ship, just join them.

Ethics should investigate! Oh wait…that would be a waste of time.

What is your grade and severance minimum?

Here is the table I found for the US severance package (Effective 1st January 2025).

Completed Years of Service Grades 20–26 (84–86) Grades 27–28 (87–88) Grades 29+ (89+, M1–M4, SLT, ELT)
0–3 3 weeks 5 weeks 11 weeks
4–5 4 weeks 6 weeks 12 weeks
6–7 6 weeks 8 weeks 14 weeks
8–9 8 weeks 10 weeks 16 weeks
10–11 10 weeks 12 weeks 18 weeks
12–13 12 weeks 14 weeks 20 weeks
14–15 14 weeks 16 weeks 22 weeks
16–17 16 weeks 18 weeks 24 weeks
18–19 18 weeks 20 weeks 26 weeks
20–21 20 weeks 22 weeks 26 weeks
22–23 22 weeks 24 weeks 26 weeks
24–25 24 weeks 26 weeks 26 weeks
26+ 26 weeks 26 weeks 26 weeks

I wonder, whats it like in different countries?

New ELT

Maybe for the cost savings we get a new CEO that is at the Engine? Would save over 30 million a year. Or let AI do the ELT job, cant be any worse that what we have now. We are wasting millions on our ELT now!

It’s the most terrible time of the year

It’s just gross that layoffs are coming. They can’t seem to find a time to do it except around the US holidays. It was better in the old days when they’d do it in August. But no…. They decide names in Nov and plan to do it later winter.

I mean there is never a good time but having a dark cloud over the holidays just stinks. Thanks ELT! I hope you can’t sleep at night!

Worst ELT

If you are working hard for this company, dont. They dont deserve any of our efforts or loyalty. They have to be the most hated group of "leaders" in Chevron history and might rank up there on most hated in US history. They single handedly took a much loved company to one that the employees cant stand. They should be ashamed!

Rewarding the Wrong Things

Employers say they want people with integrity, loyalty, and to become really good at their jobs in order to serve the clients/customers with exemplary service and products. But, they reward people who do whatever it takes to advance. They tell FA's to push products that are fee based when those products are not in the best interest of the client (lack of integrity and ethics). They preach loyalty yet they bring in people from the outside and pay them more than paying long tenured employees because they know the current employees will stay without a competitive merit increase. They also preach customer service and job performance. Yet, when they think they need to restructure to be more competitive they just run analytics and cut with a machete instead of doing research to keep top performers with the plan to hire people back when they have finally decided what roles the firm will need. I understand this is what most employers do. However, this is not what Edward Jones has ever done. Penny and the rest of the ELT has decided to do this and therefore has made Edward Jones just another run of the mill employer. Edward Jones used to be a destination employer. A place where quality talent wanted to get to and stay. That is why Ted decided to have your profit sharing vest one hundred percent on day one unlike most employers. Now, Penny has decided to just run the company like any other. Top talent will not choose to come here. Top talent will not choose to stay here. Penny has decided to destroy the culture of this company from the inside out. The fall of this firm will not come from an outside threat. It will come from the inside. I believe the time is now. I believe her name is Penny Pennington.

Our ELT is clearly over their heads

7 years late with engine
No exploration success
Broken organization and failure to meaningfully centralize
Demotivated workforce
Unbalanced portfolio
CNE failed
Succession problem
Now series of OE incidents

All they have been able to achieve is to return cash from already producing assets back to shareholders. We dont need to pay them 33mm to do that

It's the board you should be pi---d at

Everyone's whining about Mark B, Sandy, Duggan, Savinay, Shannon, etc ..... But you're barking at the wrong tree. It's the board that everybody should be pi---d at. They are the ones who enabled this mess, fostered it and encouraged it until such point where it became counter-productive and too legally risky to keep Mark B in charge. Yes, all the above people contributed in no small part to this mess, but the board is the source of all evil. They are the ones who should have been fired a long time ago by investors, if said investors truly cared about this company growing. Breaking news, it's not meant to, never was. It is (was) a cash-cow and nothing else. The acquire and trim strategy was not born with Mark B. It was always the brainchild of Jenkins, Sadler and Fowlie. This is how OpenText grew since the beginning. So ask yourself what's going to change with Mark B gone? Not much. A new CEO, maybe a new ELT, a trimmed down OT but deep down you can't turn a tow truck into a ferrari, not matter how much visionary or smart you think you are on topics like AI and information management (yes, looking at you Tom J). Once OT 2.0 is more or less in a functioning order with a balance sheet that's not threatening to cut its jugular, the good old habits will come back. That said by the time that's done, the world will have changed dramatically and the amount of catch-up OT will have to do will be massive even compared to their situation today.
