Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Push back against RTO?

Whats stopping us from collectively and politely saying no, collectively staying home, and forcing their hand? They are doing it in bits because they are scared of p*ssing off everyone all at once.

@pg I could forgive hybrid because there are some tasks better done in person but then why did they not consolidate teams to the same location? If anything the forced days in office have made the argument for being in the office worse. Many locations are past capacity forcing more teams to hire in multiple offices making any time in the office more pointless.

@pg you hit the nail on the head. Problem is that there are some @n@l people at this company who care about what other people are doing. You know those managers who want control over their people and have to dictate every little thing instead of assuming people are adults. They get their little power kick by oppressing others.

The real thing they seem to overlook is the power of choices. The problem is that there is a policy at all, not really what the policy is. If you like being in the office, go in. If you like being home, stay home. Personal preference and choices of one person do not impact another. If you want to be treated like a kid in grade school needing signed doctor notes to miss class, go for it. If the rest of us feel like we should be treated like adults with the freedom to choose how we get our work done, not sure why that bothers you so much. Theres a simple solution that would let everyone be happy which is giving us the freedom to make our own choices.

@ee - exactly! Abby wants us to be miserable and doesn’t care about our work life balance after using that phrase for years.

@dw sorry that people are waking up to the reality that giving your whole life to a company is utter tripe. Especially when said company has proclaimed work life balance for years, only to revert back to archaic times.
Some of us shine in our work and clock out and enjoy human connections.
Enjoy that laptop keeping you warm at night.

@ck maybe if you don’t want to commute to office
but there are many others who don’t have an issue, that more seems like a “you problem “

so maybe find try finding a remote role that is hiring pencil pushers

@ck yeah that has been the problem from the beginning

you guys just want to focus being outside, blaming the outsiders for your own sh-t.

class entitled snowflake behavior. everyone has survival instincts, people like you just blame others for the problems you yourself caused.

@cg if you can't get your job done within your allotted time, sounds like a you problem.
The rest of us are giving our all during the day and having a fullfilled life OUTSIDE the office.

@cc the ones you're referring to as bootlickers are better than your entitled self.

They know they have to be better you privileged kids who go offline as soon as it's 4pm.

Yes we want the job opportunities so we will do whatever it takes to survive, something you should try to learn instead of whining about every small inconvenience.

Besides, no one's forcing you to stay in the company, go find a role where they let you work from your couch while munching on Cheetos.

@OP

Too many bootlickers would break rank at the first opportunity to gladly race back to the office.

@as - yep... they also drastically cut our bonuses too by continuing to move the targets out of reach. Not worth getting super stressed for an extra few thousand a year. I'll just stress less and do less overall work to make up for it!

It’s a risk averse environment. people wouldn’t put their necks out. Best they can do is quiet quit. Don’t go above and beyond. Don’t fall for recognition central fake praise/non-awards. I’m not doing any extra. Just the bare minimum from now on.

What's stopping us is 100,000,000,000,000 H1B visas

Because to actually be impactful you'd need to organize a significant amount of fidelity's 80,000 employees to all agree to ignore rto, which is almost impossible.

Because lots of people need the job to stay in this country and wouldn't ever risk that.
