Swimming pool

Q is like swimming pool. There is an implicit honor system in a large company that people should behave professionally and with integrity and respect for each other. Instead, at Q, everyone, especially the shameful middle managers and VPs, just sh!t in the pool every chance they get. It's disgraceful. They'll do anything for a buck and job security. People who stick around get what they deserve. Its one big cessp00l.

Is there talk of shutting down the Ravinia office in Atlanta?

I have this feeling I’m not long for my current position anymore if that happens. I work under John Blanchards org and we just had a layoff in August. I think I’m being paranoid but since Srini is taking over soon… I just don’t know. The market is brutal now and I’m job hugging like a motherf----r, I’m not ready to leave yet.

Has any C-Level exec ever been to the Atlanta office?

Big big changes to Wealth on horizon

A lot of group chapter leads, platform leads are up for significant role shake up.

This won't be without impacts to associates at level 4,5,6.

We are looking at complete restructuring of middler tier managers which includes delivery leads, platform leads, chapter leads and group chapter leads.

There's a chatter of no more squad model, lot of squad leads, group squad lead roles are up for a shake up as well

While the consensus is "no impacts to associates", we all know that's a lie.

Some will be communicated the decision middle of November, giving associates 2 months to find new role.

Others would have until end of Q1 2026 to find new role.

A good read

  • Corporate giants Amazon, UPS and Target each announced layoffs in recent weeks totaling more than 60,000 jobs cut this year.
  • In the absence of the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly jobs report, the layoff announcements have raised questions about the strength of the labor market and if it’s the start of an AI-driven, white-collar recession.
  • While some companies investing in AI are looking to cut costs elsewhere, the layoffs more likely signal concerns about the economy and a slowdown in consumer spending, according to experts.

job security

i am deeply concerned and worried as a vague generalist jumping every few years across unrelated roles.

like a feather drifting through the wind, with zero control and zero influence, completely at the mercy of the gods above

i gotta get out of here but im stuck

Use the rest of the year to look for a new job

Now that we know there'll be no more layoffs this year, use this small window of calm wisely. Take advantage of the time when you're not stressed or uncertain to search for something better, because everyone knows this isn't really over. The workforce will keep shrinking, and it's only a matter of when, not if, most of us will be cut.

Likelihood that you will be layed off.

Asked perplexity likelihood of my position at verizon being gone. I'm in sales, and it is around 8%. If you are on the business side, you have a much higher chance of being laid off.

Also, if you work in accounting or finance, you have one of the highest chances of being let go in November.

Those who make light of keeping or losing your job...

Have you seen the job market?

Have you talked to those who are looking for a job?

Have you talked to those who have been looking for months or even more than a year to find a job?

It is a cr-p job market right now. Even in major metro areas like Des Moines, Minneapolis, Phoenix, etc.. Intelligent, professional, experienced, hard-working people can't find squat right now. And signs from the markets don't point to a turnaround anytime soon. And heading into EOY and holiday season is generally a slow time for hiring in any type of market.

And some of you need to get over this WFH! WFH! WFH! attitude. For several reasons. Not only do many companies hot have a strong WFH position, but don't presume you will just stroll into a job that even offers WFH. Guess what? You are not the only one fighting for the job. You think you are good, but are you the best? You feel you have excellent skills but are they relevant and current to today's world? Guess what? Being an expert at Excel is not the gold star it was 10 years ago.

If you have ANY hint or thought that your position will go away, if you do not have a nice nest egg on-hand, and/or a decent number of years for a nice severance period, you best start looking now while you still have the WF paycheck. And if you are part of a couple where both work at WF, one of you better already be walking out on the blank to jump somewhere else.

The Effects of AI on the U.S. economy.

AI does (not) -

Pay Tax revenues.

On the (exponentially rising) U.S. National debt of $38.0 Trillion whereby U.S. taxpayers pay approximately ($969.3 Billion in Interest a year) to outside Investors (almost a Trillion a year) that are both U.S. based, and foreign like Japan; and China; for example.

AI won't replace (anything) that is (not) computer driven.

CEO Elon Musk recently made a (Very incompetant) statement that it would replace (all) jobs.

It won't, but it will replace a lot of entry-level white collar jobs; and a lot of manufacturing; though.

2025’s Biggest U.S. Layoffs: 10 Companies Shaking Up the Workforce

https://americanbazaaronline.com/2025/10/31/2025s-biggest-u-s-layoffs-469488/

  1. IBM – Approximately 3,900 roles
IBM is eliminating positions in legacy IT services to invest more heavily in AI and hybrid cloud initiatives. While many of these cuts occur worldwide, a meaningful portion affects US employees, even if precise numbers aren’t publicly available.

That's not including the contractors they don't have to report since they are not IBM employees

The whole industry is upside down

And layoffs are rampant. The demand is tapering off and customers/clients are asking for more with less people and $$$. So, that'd be the environment right now. Things will continue to trend down and it's so hard to find jobs nowdays with everyone laying off people, budgets goin down, etc. Plus tariffs plus geo-political instability plus AI - you get what I am trying to say...

Good luck no matter what!!!!!

London

They keep laying off people. They are also moving as many jobs as possible to EMEA + APAC but it's not going as fast as they would like as some roles are hard to move. I do not doubt for a second that they will continue with this and that, eventually, everything meaningful and with scale, will be moved out.

WSJ: Tens of Thousands of White-Collar Jobs Are Disappearing as AI Starts to Bite

White-collar workers across the U.S. are facing mass layoffs as companies such as Amazon, UPS, and Target cut thousands of corporate jobs while embracing AI and cost-saving measures. Tens of thousands of office workers, from new graduates to seasoned professionals, are entering a stagnant job market with fewer opportunities and increasing competition.

Companies are automating white-collar tasks through AI, driving investor-backed efficiency but leaving fewer managerial and midlevel roles. Nearly two million people have been unemployed for 27 weeks or more, and confidence in finding good jobs has dropped sharply.

While blue-collar fields like construction, healthcare, and trades face labor shortages, white-collar employees are being displaced, overworked, or forced into unrelated jobs. Many laid-off professionals report draining savings and facing housing insecurity, while employers demand increasingly specific qualifications from fewer hires.

Economists warn that AI-driven restructuring is reshaping the nature of office work, eroding stability for middle- and upper-income earners, and deepening inequality in the U.S. labor market.

White Collar Jobs Disappearing

Analysts predict up to 500,000 white-collar software jobs could be lost in the next few years, mostly among mid-level employees:

https://www.thestreet.com/employment/white-collar-workers-should-worry-about-this-concerning-trend

  • AI and automation: AI is beginning to handle tasks once performed by humans, leading companies to re-evaluate their staffing needs and reduce reliance on large corporate teams. Companies like IBM have stated that AI could replace a significant percentage of non-customer-facing roles, say The New York State Society of CPAs.
  • Corporate restructuring and efficiency: Companies are restructuring to become more efficient and are under pressure from investors to cut costs. This has led to significant layoffs, particularly in large corporations like Amazon, UPS, and Target, as reported by AllSides and The Wall Street Journal.
  • Post-pandemic market normalization: The period of explosive growth in some sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic has cooled, leading to a slowdown and increased layoffs in industries like tech, communications, and media, according to Newsweek.
Economic and political uncertainty: Factors like political uncertainty and higher costs are also contributing to slower hiring and job cuts.

Cuts all around

Some of these numbers are honestly shocking. I figured we’d be near the top of the list, but we’re not even close compared to a few others. Either way, it’s not a good sign for the job market.

I’m getting desperate here

I’ve been trying to find another job for months, but I rarely come across a posting that’s even real, let alone get an interview. All this talk about upcoming layoffs is making me extremely anxious. I’m terrified of losing my job and being out of work for a long time. How is someone supposed to support their family when they’re running out of options?

I don't feel safe

Yes, I survived this round but I think we all know this is far from over. I'm supposed to feel relief, but here I am, already thinking about the next round and still unable to sleep. All I know is that I'll double my efforts to find something else, because this is not healthy in any way, shape, or form.

Life is over

I just got laid off at Target and my wife who works at Amazon as well whom is currently pregnant.

Speaking to my future self get out of retail it’s too risky to have job in this industry. It's not like before. Just as a token of advice for those who meet their significant other at Target and rotate companies but stay in retail

Wells Fargo warns of more layoffs amid ongoing job cuts

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/wells-fargo-warns-more-layoffs-203919733.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall
Wells Fargo has cut staff every quarter for the last five years. Its headcount of 210,821 declined 1% from the end of the second quarter and is down 4% from Sept. 30 of last year.

The CEO said the company has instead become more efficient.

“This was not driven by business sales or outsourcing but, in fact, real improvement in our efficiency,” CEO Charlie Scharf told investors on the bank’s earnings call. “We’ve also significantly reduced how much we spend on professional and outside services as well as non-branch real estate.”

Exact numbers of people who will lose their jobs were not shared.

One should neither consider their job safe nor tie their career to Nike

The days when that made any sense are long gone. Layoffs keep happening, smaller and more targeted, which means it can hit anyone at any time. The chances of Nike returning to its mythical glory, when it was fun to work here and the company was vibrant, flexible, and creative, are very slim. It’s better to stay alert and keep your eyes always open for other opportunities.

I’m kinda resigned to my fate

I just don’t have the capacity to worry anymore. I don’t care about the date, I don’t care if I get to keep the job, and I don’t care about the state of the job market. If I work myself up to the point of being a basket case, I won’t be able to handle what’s coming anyway. And it’s not like this has been the best job ever, so losing it wouldn’t exactly be a life-defining tragedy.

Are app Eng cooked?

I’ve been hearing there’s ai now that can do our jobs… and that the entire SWE chapter but almost exclusively application engineers are targeted for ENGINE asap.. is there truth to this? Tbh I’ve been looking for jobs since last August with zero interviews so I’m really really worried. Any insight would mean a lot, thanks !
