It's layoff season. Companies want to book the layoffs cost in Q1 2026, and because of WARN we're now about 60 days until the end of the year. Expect more likely next week.
Oddly the media hasn't picked up on the trend. I'm not sure why. Your linked article on some local yocal TV station is one of the few I've seen that shows the trend. Likely media prefers to cover the continuing Fed shutdown, and looming end to SNAP benefits.
It might break more news stories late next week, but then again who knows.
