I’ve been hearing there’s ai now that can do our jobs… and that the entire SWE chapter but almost exclusively application engineers are targeted for ENGINE asap.. is there truth to this? Tbh I’ve been looking for jobs since last August with zero interviews so I’m really really worried. Any insight would mean a lot, thanks !

100000000% yes.
Lots of business degree folks or "computer science degree" types posing as engineers at Chevron.
All the IT roles are in scope except for the C suite. Look at the engine postings- architects, data engineers, software engineers, tech leads…. Nothing is going to remain in US. Keep looking for something outside. There’s no future here.
Yes, they are. As is every IT role. It will be offshored in waves, though.
Remember when MW got cozy with Microsoft? At that time, they told him that AI was going to be able to take over many of the repetitive jobs within the business world. Well, go old MW saw dollars signs and that is when this master plan of Engine started.
I know an application “engineer” with a business degree who straight up told me he doesn’t know what a for loop is. Dead serious. Their whole job is clicking thru workflows and sitting in meetings for $100k. No doubt, it’ll be THE FIRST thing sent over there or automated. I’d suggest leveling up with real skills thru grad school or pivoting to something else because there’s zero value left in that. Shame on Chevron for putting that in the software engg chapter, too. Makes it harder for them on the market bc ppl will assume they’re actual engineers with technical skills but they’re just cosplaying as one. Oh well.
Oh u mean the “engineers” who click buttons on SAP? Application engineers are not real engineers nor are they accurately titled. Yes, there’s already AI that does their entire job. Soooo yes.
I think most jobs at Chevron at planning to move to India. The market for SWE is at software companies and MSP companies. The traditional companies will be outsourcing SWE to contractors and MSP’s because the corporations don’t need to carry people on staff and train them for new technologies. SWE is no longer a job a company needs to employ unless you are a software company
