Is there a point in trying to get a job at Amazon anymore?

I've always wanted to work at Amazon and I've been applying for a while, but with all the cuts, I'm starting to think there's no point in it anymore. I don't want to leave a somewhat safe position to start a new job even if it is my dream job just to be laid off within months.

Gulf of America assets and job security

It’s evident that several Shell GoA assets will pass the inflection threshold for divestment or continued production to abandonment.

It’s now common knowledge that 2028 the ELT will have to decide on non performing assets in the GoM before production and remaining reserves become unprofitable for divestment.

I'm worried about what's ahead

Being let go didn't personally affect me at all. I've gotten used to losing jobs. It's happened several times over my career, and by now I don't see it as anything reflecting on me. But I've never been more worried about finding another job. It doesn't look good out there, and my husband's job is in peril too. I can't recall when things have felt this bad from every direction. Wish us luck and the optimism to keep us afloat.

Switching to another bank/competitor

Hi all, I got an offer at another big bank/competitor. As a VP in risk/controls department, I see that I am required to give a 30 day notice period. Anything less and I will lose my RSU and will be ineligible for rehire.

What is likely to happen if I disclose that I am switching jobs to a competitor and I give my 30 day notice? Will they let me go on the spot, or will they let me finish out my 30 day notice period?

Best thing I did was leave NOV

I was a part of NOV for 15 years. I made it up the management ladder.
I loved what I did for many years. Until the internal split the company made in 2012 or 2013. An accountant was put over our business unit. That was just stupid. so was bringing back the yes sir man back from Singapore
It all went downhill from there. the hardest decision I made was to leave my product line.
Now few years later I am happy and I am so glad I made the jump. I would recommend anyone that is currently employed with NOV get out while you can. The ship is sinking
lol the ship has already gone down. Counting down the days until you get laid off is not the way to live.

In 2008
I was told you train at NOV and when you decide you want to make real money you leave. Its not just about the money, but that is true.
The stress relief is the best part. No one telling me to do more with less.

Engineering Career Over

I'm in tech. Involuntarily moved to a different team with an entirely different stack for the year. Umm I don't know how to code in their language. I'm expected to just start contributing right away. Like... What? So I have busted my a-s for years here, fixed tons of other peoples' mistakes to keep the lights on before anyone in BL can notice. Always good reviews. Sure people don't like my personality sometimes but you know what I always deliver. If I lead a project it completes on time and on budget while others flail around & never deliver. I've not been promoted in years & my career has stagnated - now this. Go code in this totally unfamiliar stack & fail at it & then come back later to my original team? It's fcking insulting af, there's no way I'll last that long, I'm set-up to fail. This place is so demoralizing & dehumanizing I should have bolted long ago but now... The economy is so flooded by laid-off Americans due to Indian replacement & outsourcing to India (& they only hire other Indians, happened to me even internally wheh I foolishly tried to help myself to move-up) I'll likely never be an engineer again or have any kind of financial security. This su-ks. It's worse for the MANAGERS they picked for this who are now listed as line engineers on the project. I can't even imagine their headspace right now. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO CODE THIS OTHER TEAM'S PROJECTS WTF. I'm going to try to make it work by focusing-on aspects of their tech I do know, but jesus this is senselessly stressful & I can't help but look at it as anything other than pushing me out by claiming I couldn't contribute enough - because I don't know the fcking stack. Just outrageous shenanigans here. I'm so sc--wed.

What am I going to do?!

I've lost my voice from p!$$!ng and moaning about losing my job. My fingers are raw and cramped from posting here and on other forums. My extended family won't have anything to do with me. My wife is threatening to leave me! I haven't been able to find another job. What do I do????

When I first came here as a than unhappy FTOW it’s funny how…

A lot of what I thought would happen is starting to happen right now. I’m not here anymore but figured I’d see as to is anything was changing and it turns out that the RTM position was tested in a few markets and now it’s rolling out in many areas probably most. Makes me even more glad I got out.

I was always saying to myself that my reasoning why it hadn’t yet been implemented in our area was that it would happen under the circumstances that enough reps and/or RMS’ would leave that they would just give everyone left one giant territory and that the person will have the duties of a sales rep while doing the duties like scheduling and everything else a typical manager would do. But since none of the people who said they would leave left it would be a matter of when this rolls out nationwide,

Can’t see why they have to make things worse than mission 1. With the amount of people who take packages im willing to bet that anyone who isn’t looking to leave sales rep RMS or DM will most likely have a job. With the amount who will likely leave they will likely make the territories for these people even bigger which would have to expand the role of the FTOWs.

Problem is they don’t have the manpower from FTOW. Not enough people are interested in it. Even from the outside world they can’t get anyone to work for them. Can’t blame them I was overworked and treated like such cr-p towards the end. Had I not gotten out this is what I’d be dealing with. Even worse being pushed harder while still having the same absymal pay.

Has anyone contacted a Lawyer?

There’s a clause in the severance that states “you can not work for any competitor with in 12 months of accepting”. This seems highly unfair after a whole career in wireless. What an I supposed to do? Finds a completely different field and forget my years of experience? That’s so unfair… take the money and shut up or starve while you look for work!

North Star Health Alliance Plans Management Layoffs in New York

North Star Health Alliance announced plans to eliminate about 120 positions in New York, with management roles most affected. The layoffs follow the loss of state funding in December after New York officials said the organization failed to provide sufficient spending details.

North Star disputes the claim, saying it has been transparent and is seeking continued state support. The job cuts will also affect some clinical and non-clinical staff.

I feel like I'm waiting for a slab of concrete to fall on my head

I'm in one of those bad stretches in life when problems just pile up - family issues, aging parents, health stuff. Everything's breaking down all at once, and the bills keep piling up. I'd probably handle the job uncertainty better if everything else wasn't falling apart. As it is, I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop and make it complete.

Make it difficult

This place plans to get rid of you for any reason they can find now. Make it hard on them. Keep key notes out of reach, dont give all details and important bits of pertinent info when training, dont save anything where they can access what you created while here. Make it difficult . Stick it in on them every way you can think of. Why should your hard work be used after they cut the cord for made up reasons. They dont want to give merit so give them the performance they claim you earned. This is all going to burn them big time and im not sad about it. I hope we get too witness it or read about it in the news

Job security - What a joke.

Telecom used to be the kind of industry where you could build a career and retire from it, especially for engineers in RF, Systems and Networking. When many of us started out years ago, we accepted that trade-off: other fields might pay more, but telecom offered stability as long as you did your job well and stayed sharp. That sense of security is gone now. With the field clearly in decline, there’s really no reason for engineers to stay, or to encourage the next generation to work hard just to become one.

Immigrants aren't going to take our jobs, robots will

https://techcrunch.com/2026/01/05/boston-dynamicss-next-gen-humanoid-robot-will-have-google-deepmind-dna/

Everyone get ready for the real great replacement. Humanoid robots with AI learning are being taught how to do part deliveries and other logistical tasks. Gulfstream will do anything to improve their profit margins, so you better believe that they will find a way to replace every human worker at gulfstream with a robot that doesn't require bathroom breaks, food, vacations, health insurance or anything else that could possibly slow production down. They will be able to work 24/7/365, will be able to perform all the tasks we can without causing any DRDIs. It's not about if it happens, it's about when.

Companies like UPS, Amazon, and Microsoft have cut thousands of jobs

Job Security Through Education Is Gone.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/massive-corporate-layoffs-changed-everything-183114744.html

Robert Kiyosaki argues that traditional job security is now obsolete. He cites recent large-scale corporate layoffs as evidence. Companies like UPS, Amazon, and Microsoft have cut thousands of jobs. Kiyosaki advises increasing financial intelligence instead of saving money. He recommends investing in assets like gold, silver, Bitcoin, and Ethereum.
