Grow a pair - just leave

First - I am an optimist. And, yes I was impacted. Top performer, great team, but toxic and politically motivated weak leadership. I was planning to leave after the earnings call in June. They just beat me to it. Yes, lost a ton of RSUs and the Q4 payout. Financially, painful...indeed and it felt intentional and it probably was.
All said, i keep coming back to this with hopes of seeing a mass exodous of folks posting ..done, walking, better opportunity, and it simply not worth it... my health, knowledge and expertise are worth far more than hanging on to what is a false set of expectations and a mirage wiith the hope they are not next. That's a hard road.

The more people that just silently leave the louder the message.

Wishing you all peace and happiness as you pursue a better life ..its out there.

Stop waiting for the axe to cut your head

The management is chanting "AI" in every meeting, even the office plants know the next layoff is coming soon. Stop waiting for the axe to cut your head. If you’re eyeing the exit, get your interview script ready. If you’re worried about the bank account, find a side hustle. If you’re the sharpest technical mind in the room, stop fixing your manager's broken Excel formuls, let them figure out how to "AI" their way out of a circular reference. If you possess knowledge within your team that others do not, stop sharing it; Your kindness is pushing your own head into a noose.

@b9+1kr2g8fby is 100% right.

Morning after….

How does it feel ?
I am a bit restless. Not used to doing nothing but can get used to it. Mostly relieved. Too bored to scan through the 20 page package.
Planning to chill and focus on exercise, kitchen, family and sign the paperwork in a few days.
Still figuring out. Anything else to do and add, chime in please.

Midlife Crisis of the Salesforce Professional

https://www.salesforceben.com/the-midlife-crisis-of-the-salesforce-professional/

Layoffs even in AF, smaller territories, higher targets, no raises, greater levels of micromanagement, offshoring....leading many to question is the hard pivot to AI really worth it it just leave the ecosystem? Or even leave the entire tech industry as misery increases for everyone.

What platforms work, if any?

I've been applying for months through the big job boards and getting almost nothing back. No calls, no interviews, nothing. For those of you who've been laid off and managed to find something, which platforms actually worked for you? I need to change my approach.

Audiobooks until the end of the month…

Do not recommend House of Fidelity.. but…

This book really helped me get through a tough transition when i left the firm. I highly recommend for those impacted in the tech space

Bit of a click bait title - but Erika used to work at fidelity and has a chapter where she goes into how that played out, and i have to say it sounds oddly familiar to some peoples experiences now.

And if anyone, i mean anyone has ever given you the book “who moved my cheese” never speak to them again.

You have a golden opportunity ahead of you.

I get that being played off can be really stressful. More so now than ever companies are showing us how little we all matter. If you’re on the finance side of Fidelity, have you ever given thought to using your skills for yourself instead of a company? I did two years ago and have been doing well since. Just some food for thought

Broadstaff CEO Suggests Data Center Jobs for Laid-Off Tech

The technology sector faces ongoing substantial job reductions. Broadstaff CEO Carrie Charles suggests a career pivot for affected workers. She advises moving into data center roles like electricians and technicians. Demand for these positions is high, with job listings increasing significantly. Senior data center electricians can earn six-figure salaries.

Finally caught the bullet, and I'm not even a little sad about it

The job was a dead end anyway. Severance is decent, I've got savings, and I can afford to give myself a well-deserved break for a few weeks before I start looking again. I'll find something eventually. No point in stressing. Good luck to everyone still there, and always keep an eye out for something better.

Happy Trails from an old IT Cowboy

At this stage in my life I have come to look at companies like ranches and I am just a hired cowboy to help drive their herds north to the rail head. In viewing the modern working world this way I don't get too attached to any one company in my life when working in the field of IT. Yesterday the cattle boss said in a not so surprising one on one Teams call that I was no longer needed. I got my notice and packet in my personal email later in the day. I tried logging in one last time on my company laptop this today, but my account had been disabled. So I packed up the monitors, dock, meraki, phone, laptop etc. and took it over to the UPS store. Got my UPS equipment return receipts with tracking numbers to the Bloomfield "Wild Bill" Depot. Now I ride off into the sunset to another ranch over yonder. Hopefully everyone laid off finds a prosperous new ranch and cattle boss to work for. You all worked really hard here and still have tremendous value and potential yet. Stay positive and I wish all of you Happy Trails!

How is a developer at this company supposed to pivot elsewhere?

I got this job out of college a few years ago and every time someone tells me to jump ship and so on I'm met with the reality that my skills and knowledge have either remained stagnant or actually gotten worse with this company. Combine that with programing in C and I feel like I've been left holding the bag. I need options here before I somehow find myself replaced by an Indian despite being told "Your work is proprietary and cannot be done by offshore employees," as if that's stopped PHI being leaked and exposed for the past several months or turning entire teams into being contractors for Tech Mahindra.

Next Step in AI Replacement

Many of us got an email today stating that we are to start evaluating AI responses and tagging cases so that we can give feedback as to why articles are not leading to resolutions.

It is being framed like AI is going to be a tool that helps us do our jobs better. It is very clear that we are training our replacements.

It would be wise for anyone in support to start coming up with a plan b.

Merit this year

So, now that reviews should start coming back, what low % are we looking at this year for ‘above meets’ or whatever label they’re using now? I’m considering posting out to a lower level position. My thinking is if they can’t pay me for the additional workload I e taken on I might as well just work a lower level position that actually reflects my salary and make life a bit easier on myself. Anyone else thinking the same?

Make the most of it !

I have seen the futute of AI and ML and it doesn't include you. If you work in the desktop/server space, probably the lower levels of networking, then its time to retrain for a new career outside of IT.
Sorry to be blunt but your roles are already being automated by better companies than DXC, companies that have invested in AI and ML from early on.

Stop Waiting

Stop waiting and do something about it. Update the resume, start looking and leave. There is life after Cigna / Evernorth or whatever it's called. It's one of the best things I've done! The stress you're putting yourself through is just not worth it. Good luck! You're welcome!

Time to make some tough career decisions

I know it's not a fun topic, but with everything happening, it's probably smart to think about your next move. For some of us, that might mean taking a step back to learn new skills or even switching to a role with a better long-term future, even if the pay isn't perfect right now. The goal is to make sure you're still valuable on your own terms for the rest of your career. It's not fun, but that's what I've been focusing on.

Leaving Comcast is a good thing...

I went thru several layoffs with Comcast and each time I scrambled to "get back in". In hindsight, I should have let go and moved on much sooner. It's just a bad relationship, let it go, your new work family is waiting for you! I know for some of us older folks it can be difficult to recover, but trust me, you will. You might have to do something different, you might make less, but you will be in a better place. You should be proud of the work you did for them, but it's time to be open to what's next for you.

Future Plans

In contemplating my future after being laid off from EJ, relying on a small severance and my depleting savings, I can see how people do something to go to prison. They will have shelter, food, daily exercise, health insurance, no utility or car payments and, I can study for a degree - even a law degree - without incurring any debt. Maybe not a bad gig....I'll have PP and DC to thank for this opportunity!

I've decided it's time for me to move on

After a lot of thinking, I've accepted an offer from a new company. It was tough, but the layoffs and lack of any real path forward here made the choice clearer. I'm really looking forward to a fresh start where I can actually focus on doing good work. I wish everyone the very best.

Volunteers

I just wish they would let people volunteer to be let go with severance. I’ve been at TMO (Lvl 7 in a headquarters role) for 10 years. There are very limited opportunities to change roles and even fewer opportunities for advancement. At this point, I’m ready to cut my losses and try something different as I don’t want to be miserable the rest of my working life or worse, be let go when I’m older when the chances of retooling or finding something else will be more challenging. At this point, regardless if I’m an active employee or not, my attention will be spent finding alternative options.

Silver lining after the unexpected layoff

Got laid off earlier this year and initially felt like the rug was pulled from under me. After months of grinding job-search, I landed a more flexible, less stressful gig. Fewer perks, but more time with family, less pressure, better work-life balance. I won’t say I’m totally healed, but some part of me feels like I’m finally breathing again.

Reorged but not working out

If you were reorged (moved to another department without applying / not your choice) and it’s not working out. Can you apply to another position within the company if it’s been less than a year? I know generally you should wait a year to apply but this role is not working for me at all. I want to go back to a similar role I was in before and willing to take a pay cut. Any thoughts or experience you could share would be helpful.

This company has seen its best days

From here, it’s only going down. Everything is changing so fast, and we’re nowhere near keeping up. If you’re smart, you’re already hunting for a new opportunity, because waiting around is just going to mean going down with this ship. At this point, it’s not a question of if it sinks, but when, and being proactive is the only way to have any control over what happens next.

I hate this

I hate having to look for a job at 55. I have a huge problem with interviews because I can completely tank them every single time, no matter how much I prepare. The thought of having to face another one makes my stomach twist and my anxiety spike, and I dread every second leading up to it because I know there’s a very real chance I’ll blow it again. I hate this.

Manager

Hello relatively new to Citi, worked hard last year.. from last 3 months my manager is unnecessary escalating things (earlier he was ok) now another peer (gave multiple prod issues, bring the system down in production once) is getting promoted it seems. I definitely did more than him..and in 1-2 scenario my manager asked me to help. Looks like I took one of the wrong decision 4 years ago.. what you guys do in this situation? Start looking for the next one?

Don’t be scared

A lot of you knew this day was coming. Seeing all the panic post and comments just says, no one prepared for what could come. Verizon is a mega business and they will cuts ties in a second. If you’re let go, look at it as a blessing. I left Verizon and thankful I’m not dealing with this. I’ll end it with, at first I was scared, time went by and it was the absolute best decision. Blessing to you all
