Layoff risk at after the May 2026 earnings call

Information from the extensive deep research:

My base case is that a broad, post-earnings layoff announcement is unlikely, but selective reductions, tighter hiring controls, or reallocation out of slower-growth teams remain plausible. On the evidence available before the May call, I estimate the probability of any publicly visible layoff action within roughly 90 days after the call at 25%–40% (medium), with the probability of a broad company-wide program above 3% of headcount at 10%–20% (low). Confidence is medium, because the company’s operating trend is clearly improving, but it has also shown that it will still prune selectively even during periods of rising revenue

So what happened to the Overland Park Kansas expansion hub?

Supposedly Fiserv was going to open the new hub starting in the summer of this year, but there's been no news of it. I haven't heard if they even did the $175m in rennovations either. The plan was also going to relocate 500 employees and hire 1,500 new full time employees with annual salaries expected to average around $102K by 2030. Considering the recent the predicament the company is in, is this ever going to happen? And which business units are these even for, Merchant or Financial Solutions? The company is shrinking so an expansion seems bizarre.

Did the role go to H1B?

I am a US citizen. I did an interview for Lead IT Analyst role. It is a remote role in the US. The 2 interviewers were Indians (Telugus). I answered each and every question correctly and I didn’t get the role.

Could the role have gone to someone from their community?

Is there a way to find out?

Almost discriminatory hiring

HP posted jobs for new graduate hires and it’s very close to flat out admitting biased hiring practices. Here’s what it says:

“Candidates who identify with a group that is historically underrepresented in the technology sector including by not limited to, African American, Latino, Native American, individuals with disabilities and Veterans are encouraged to apply.”

This is signaling bias without flat out admitting to bias. It’s very noble that HP is doing this and I agree with their intentions but this sort communication would discourage those who identify as things that are not physically provable as “underrepresented” just by looking at someone so it’s really about hiring manager’s and recruiter’s INTERPRETATION. Also, it goes on to say that it will not provide documentation for sponsorship, which I would argue is now an “underrepresented” group of people.

Very flaky hiring practices.

No impact to my group

We have temp employees, managers are still frequently traveling, we are hiring.

It’s highly unlikely there will be layoffs in my BU. We also still have OT. The entire company is not at risk. Maybe 5%, but there’s no real indication there will be a massive layoff.

Everyone please sleep tonight. Layoffs do happen annually, but it’s usually something you can see coming, if there will be impact to your group.

Toptal Forecasts Remote Tech Roles Expanding Despite Cuts

Toptal predicts growth in remote tech roles. These jobs demand extensive prior experience. This trend happens amidst broad technology job cuts. More than 150,000 technology positions were cut by April. AI integration increases demand for expert workers.

Bad Hire

Fires 40 pct of his direct reports and assumes their roles, including Availability. figures out that most outages occur during change, so now unnatural acts of impossible clairvoyance are expected, with the implication of losing your job due to things out of your control. Need a mulligan. This is the end.

Oregon Job Cuts Ease Following Significant Reductions

Oregon saw more than 14,000 jobs eliminated over two years. Major employers like Intel and Nike contributed to this surge. The rate of job cuts has notably decreased recently. Oregon's unemployment rate has stabilized at 5.2% for almost twelve months. Economists now seek increased hiring to further improve the labor market.

Thousands of Layoffs at IBM, So IBM Pays Mainstream Media to Claim That IBM is Hiring (Paid Lies)

Put it down in your calendar for April 29th, 2031. Remember to check (in 2031) if IBM did, indeed, hire 750 people in Chicago for "quantum" something.

Rehired after JE?

Has anyone who was eliminated earlier this year successfully secured an interview for a new role? I have applied for a few different positions for which I was a perfect fit, but the speed with which I received the "Thanks but no thanks" email felt automated. The first few times I assumed they'd already filled the role internally or had lost funding for the position. Now I'm wondering if there is an automatic filter to exclude previous employees. If so, I really don't want to waste time applying for anything else. Has anyone who was JE'd gotten rehired?

Layoffs Trigger Heightened Nepotism and Cronyism

It's time to say the quiet part out loud. Have you ever wondered why upper leadership are so terrible at their roles, have no expertise related to their core functions, and can hardly string together a coherent sentence? It's because they were never qualified to begin with. VPs, Sr. Directors, Directors, etc., they're school mates, college roommates, they attend the same church. That incompetent Associate Director who somehow gets away with doing no work at all? Well, the VP just so happens to be his uncle Dave. Uncle Dave even fashioned the role description with his nephew in mind. The truth is that...you never had a chance.

The recruiters are aligning the resumes of their friends and families to hiring manager specifications, and influencing the hiring decisions. Think you're a perfect fit for the role? Well, so does the recruiter. So much so, that they ensure your resume isn't seen by a hiring manager. It's important for them to quell the competition, after all.

Nepotism and Cronyism aren't new, but have increased in this abysmal job market. If you're not getting interviews, you aren't to blame. If you're making it to the final rounds of interviews but have no luck, it’s because you're being used by the hiring manager to meet an interview quota...they were never genuinely interested in you.

For all you overachievers who are excellent at your roles, your leadership feels the same way—which is precisely why you're being blocked from promotion. They want you to remain right where you are.

So, don't blame yourself. You're not imagining things and you haven't done anything wrong. You are just navigating a system that was never made for you to win. The good managers who support their teams are purged while Incompetence reigns supreme. But don't give up. If VP uncle Dave is trying to squeeze his niece or nephew into that management role...let's not make it easy for him 😉.

FAS is hiring

As many are commenting about lay-off's, FAS is hiring! Of course, FAS is easy money for Fidelity. Quarterly income for simply picking mutual funds. Pretty much a rip off for the actual investing part- as long as clients realize they are really paying to be able to speak with a licensed advisor btw who 8 months ago may have been their waiter at Olive Garden.

Overseas hiring

Citi and other major companies are hiring lot of people overseas! The diff ratio is huge! No one is talking about this. There used to be some controls on overseas hiring. But the hiring pattern now is a huge concern. I believe it is because of H1B restrictions. Either way, You are cooked! So, you don't allow H1B or L1, it's fine, we will hire there. Cheap labor is always the goal for these corporations. Noone cares about the security and the country.

Fire here, hire there, hire cheap! .🤡

EMTEC Hadcount

Seems like EMTEC is planning to increase the PIP % across all of its organizations this year. All the made up LCS roles are being reassigned back into research, Done with stories used to justify CL upgrades . At the same time, we are seeing significant redundancy across research functions, and there is heavy hiring within BTC on computational modeling, RTO, and data science groups.
