Crown Career Barometer

Here it is…The first week of June and a quick look at the career section of Crowns website shows eight openings…split between half in Houston and the other half in Canonsburg. Nothing in the field…nothing remote. Any chance at a lateral move out of the Midwest area?

Marketing jobs shifting to Houston??

I heard from reputable source, that although marketing VP GH is stationed in OKC… marketing jobs are expected to relocate to Houston office for better commercial exposure. Sorry for the facts, just want to keep people in the know so there’s no surprises. Hoping the best for all involved. This isn’t fun for anyone.

Severance Packages

As many have heard the finance transformation will affect many of the jobs for the Houston finance team. That being said, are any of you all willing to share past severance agreements/packages that Enbridge has offered during past restructuring or layoffs? How many weeks per service year or minimum weeks? Will the bonus be prorated?

Midlanders Listen Up

One of the classic excuses for a low assessment at ExxonMobil is not being mobile. They talk a good game about caring but then if you aren’t willing to move and change jobs every couple of years they will say your potential is limited and drop your ranking. Of course it is okay for people to spend their entire career in Houston but forget it if you are a Pioneer employee wanting to stay in Midland.

Houston becoming unlivable

HOUSING
Property taxes in Houston remain a double-edged sword: while they fund essential local services in the absence of a state income tax, they are among the highest in the nation.

Surging property values are leading to higher overall tax bills.

Due to rising home prices and interest rates. Monthly mortgage payments have climbing 44% since 2021 not including increases in taxes and insurance. Few have received raises of a similar magnitude.

Beyond the purchase price, rising insurance premiums and climate-related costs (like flooding and extreme heat) are making homeownership increasingly expensive.

TRAFFIC
Houston traffic is increasingly viewed as unlivable, with commuters losing nearly four days annually to delays, a number that rose in 2026. It ranks among the worst in Texas, characterized by severe bottlenecks on I-45 and Loop 610, aggressive driving, and rapid sprawl, making it one of the least livable major US metros.

Houston Downtown Unassigned & Hess

Houston is modernizing the buildings based on the San Ramon model and we promise you will only move to the unassigned model in a modernized space. You’re going to love it.

What is the mood knowing they broke that commitment and are now awkwardly and cowardly backtracking by possibly bringing the Hess building into play?

Btw, MN was the decider to force everyone into unassigned. Now RB is trying to clean up his mess.

The shoe is on the other foot now

The Grayson mill energy Houston office that was shut down, all those people that were let go are probably laughing now that the shared services cuts are going to hit OKC. If you aren’t where the center of power is, you are expendable and it’s only a matter of time. Can’t manage data, can’t support your customers, can’t IT hundreds of miles away :)

Houston downtown parking garage nightmare

We've been stuck in the HOU150 garage for 45+ minutes. That me and about 100 other cars. Just trying to leave. Unbelievable.
Force everyone into a needlessly remodelled office with open-plan seating that strips away dignity and privacy—then schedule repairs on the elevators, escalators, and garage all at once, grinding facility throughput to a halt.
What are we doing? Why does everything have to be this hard? Why are we doing this to ourselves?

New to Houston Relocation - Property Taxes & Insurances Crazy

In the process of relocating to Houston. Looking for a house. Learning that property taxes & insurance are insane in Houston. Seeing >$16k property taxes and >$6k insurance, not including flood insurance. Auto insurance is higher too. Is this normal?

So much money is thrown away in property taxes & insurances here. It seems ridiculous.

Unassigned Seating in Houston

It’s such a sh-t show! This is how we get better?!?!?!? This is how we beat the competition?!?!?!?! These a-holes torture us for a year with the layoff, surprise us with the return to office 4 days into this circus cr-p of unassigned seating!!!! This is their response to those of us who said we believe in this company to ride it out with you all and get it on track???!! The new op model is a joke and the leaders still haven’t defined roles, requiring us to work a sh-t ton of overtime where we need to concentrate. What a joke of a leadership crew we have. They ki-led this company. I’d have more respect if they are doing this on purpose, but likely they think they are making the right moves. Wtf!!!!!???!!

Make the LT surf a floor for a place to sit everyday and focus on this bs they created! Can you tell I’m pi---d
