Quitting for not-so-much greener pastures

Just pastures that haven’t been left to dry out and die. It took a while to find something else, but I gave it a real go. Staying here wasn’t just unbearable, it felt reckless. Months of layoffs with no end in sight, and the company’s future obscured, to put it mildly. The pay is about the same, there seems to be some semblance of work-life balance, and most importantly, there’s no amount of money that can buy peace of mind.

We are reaching a breaking point

The stock won’t recover through layoffs. Maybe there’s a short-term bump, but long-term we’ve been in a downward spiral. You can’t fix anything with cuts alone, especially when they’re not strategic or tied to a real vision. This company won’t magically grow again. And after years of dumping on its most valuable resource, skilled and competent employees, you can’t expect to be an industry titan.

Should I take a position at a lower pay?

With all the bad news lately, I feel like I have no moral at O. I'm an engineering support in fusion U.S., and I've been fortunate enough to receive a job offer from another company on Friday , even though it comes with a 20 percent pay cut. In the past, I would never have considered making such a move, but the job market is quite concerning, and I'm worried there will be more layoffs.

Should I jump ship while I still can and take this job. A few friends told me absolutely!!!

CL30 - Grass isn’t greener!

At CL29 I was cruising - solid rankings, comfortable, life was good. Then I moved to CL30 and suddenly felt like a wart hog in the African savanna with every lion staring me down. Turns out, the grass on the other side isn’t greener - it just comes with more predators. Sometimes the “lower” CLs are the sweet spot. Enjoy them, every level is competitive, but to different degrees.

Just wanted to comment on this for all those yearning for the next CL…

No Response from Speakup

It’s been months since I’ve reported to on PL harrasment.
No Response!
I’m not surprised!!!
RTO making it hard to attend the interviews and applying for jobs, since we’re crazy busy..
Life s$$$s!!!

The commute will be a nightmare

Why waste hours of our lives in LA traffic? Why make everything more expensive for us? Why drain people of their time and energy just to tick some box? It won’t make us better performers. It won’t make us more creative, harder working, or more efficient. If anything, the quality of work will drop. Exhausted and demoralized people are the worst employees you could possibly have. Is that really what they want to achieve?

I’m among those hoping to be laid off

I’ve chickened out so many times already, and with the job market the way it is, I’m extremely hesitant. Still, I can barely drag myself to work every day. I can’t stand this company, and I’m bored out of my mind with my job. It’s all pressure, it’s mind-numbing, and there’s absolutely no payoff. Better they give me the boot when I don’t have the guts to do it myself. That said, I don’t wish layoffs on anyone who, for whatever reason, needs this cr-p of a job.

Opendoor Board Chair Thinks the Company Should Cut Its Workforce by 85 Percent

During a recent appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street,” Keith Rabois, a former member of the PayPal Mafia, told a reporter that he felt that the majority of the people at his company were expendable. “There’s 1,400 employees at Opendoor. I don’t know what most of them do. We don’t need more than 200 of them,” Rabois remarked. He added that “the advent of AI and other technologies” made the workforce reduction a “simple problem” to solve.

I’ve decided not to let the tension and anxiety get to me

I can’t change what will happen, and I know I won’t have any influence on the decision, especially when costs, not performance, will almost certainly be the deciding factor in these layoffs. I’d rather save my energy for whatever comes next. Severance can help bridge the gap, and no matter how bad the job market looks, there are always options. I wish it hadn’t come to this, but now that it has, the best thing is to focus on personal interests and possible solutions. And honestly, it’s not as if this has been the greatest place to work anyway.

It’s such a shame

Ansys was a strong company on its own. We didn’t need this to happen. It was our work that made Ansys successful, yet now we’re now treated as expendable. Do they even care what happens to performance once so many of us are gone?

Would layoffs really come as a surprise to anyone?

First, the culture has been steadily declining. We’ve become little more than numbers, underappreciated and underpaid. Second, we’re in an era of offshoring, outsourcing, and relentless cost-cutting for the benefit of a few at the top. Employees are the last consideration and the first casualty of any change. Let’s hope these are just rumors, but it’s better to be prepared for whatever may come.

Elon Musk's xAI lays off hundreds of workers tasked with training Grok

  • XAI laid off about a third of its data annotation team, reducing staff by about 500 workers.
  • The layoffs follow a strategic shift to prioritize specialist AI tutors over generalist roles.
  • XAI's reorganization included tests to assess workers' strengths and determine future roles.

My Voice Survey - What a Joke

I just went ahead and lied my way through the annual survey. What a complete joke, sending that out now after everything that they have done to the staff. I would love to have told the truth, how I really feel about the place, but let's be honest - it's not anonymous, and if you want to hang on a little longer, you had better tell them what they want to hear.

Would you recommend that youth pursue a career in tech any more?

It seems like all tech work places, not just Dell, are treating employees with complete disrespect. Need lower costs for a quarter, lay them off, and chances are they will be available to rehire when you need them again. The goal of career development has been replaced with the goal of just staying employed.

OI new CEO is private equity guy?

Checked him out. Left UHG long long ago to go PE and consulting.

Will OI be nonexistent by the time he finishes layoffs? That is my fear. A lot of finance and health projects got moved to OI and I feel it’s like being picked for the glue factory.

Trust and Confidence in Senior Leadership

  1. What is your current trust and confidence level in our Chairman/CEO and the Executive Committee? What are the reasons for your perspective?

  2. If there is one thing you could change about our current leadership and direction that would help gain more of your trust, what would it be?

I’m as invested in my job as Chevron is invested in me

Time to stop drinking the blue cool aid. Chevron would happily offshore or turn every job tomorrow an AI agent tomorrow if it would bump the stock price 1/2%. Our core competencies are Wall Street FOMO and slow following tech bros culture. Time to stop deluding ourselves that this company values or appreciates employees.

I was a fool!

I was laid off, and I regret that I worked so hard at my job. I had a good performance rating and never expected this outcome. I worked in fusion tech support, where I cared deeply about my customers and the quality of my work, even putting in time on weekends. I was okay with not receiving a raise in exchange for job stability, but that’s not the case anymore.

While no one owes you anything in life, I realize there is no point in doing more than what is necessary for this company. I’m glad I didn’t waste a decade on this! Aging tech, awfully management, no raise, you wont progress there. I was a foul to have stayed 4 years!!!!

Counseling

I participated in a marriage counseling session with my spouse yesterday and will share with you some words of wisdom.
If you feel like you have tried everything reasonable to improve things but still feel like you are in a relationship that does not make you happy, then end the relationship and move on.
It is best to end it amicably.
A lot of you here are convinced that you are in a poisonous environment. You also believe that the leaders are to blame.
Just like your spouse, the leaders will be staying, so you can choose to stay in a place that makes you miserable, or be strong and move on.
P.S. Even in marriage, it helps both parties when the relationship ends. At first the other spouse might be sad or think they will miss you but will learn quickly that they were with a toxic partner.

Find Out Who Your Friends Are

It is true what they say, you find out who your friends are when something like this happens. People I have known for years and thought we were friends, I have not heard from. Maybe the obligatory that su-ks, you'll be fine call or text when it happens. But otherwise, not a peep from any of my close teammates and colleagues. Surprisingly, people who barely know me have been the most helpful with connecting me to new opportunities and networking. Just keep that in mind when you are breaking your neck to help your team, that unfortunetly they won't miss you when you are gone. They will just be happy it wasn't them.

We all knew this - AT&T Tracked Employee Attendance Article

Not looking forward to the weekend

This place has su-ked all the joy out of my life. All I do is worry. I’m lucky, I’m in my late 20s and don’t have a family. I feel for my teammates who have to go home and put on a happy face for their spouses and children. I don’t think I could manage that with everything that’s been going on.

RTO compliance relief

From Business Insider article; “ AT&T tracked employee attendance to find 'freeloaders.' Now, it admits the system is driving workers to the 'brink of frustration.’ “

Relief may be on the way for all that are beyond frustrated.

How to be happy at SAP as of today

I have a colleague who is very happy at SAP right now.

He has a job he likes, and a good manager and team.

He does not care about the rest of the world at SAP.

He knows CK, but could not name any other board member.

He never listens to all-hands calls or reads management mails from above his boss. Never. His reasoning: if anything important comes up, his manager will inform him anyway.

He manages his team and PO so that he has all the freedoms he needs to be happy.

Boy do I envy this guy! But I will follow him regarding all-hands calls and ignoring the management cr*p. Time to build a form of resilience.

Why is there even a need for cuts?

So many people are already leaving voluntarily, yet they keep talking about cuts. It’s like they don’t see the bigger picture and are just determined to make things worse. The morale has been terrible for a while, and it doesn't help that the company is punishing the people who stayed instead of fixing the issues.
