And it's by design. I almost have the feeling that they enjoy making us jump through hoops, throwing all kinds of obstacles and inconveniences at us just for the heck of it. Productivity and performance be damned. Losing top performers, because they do have a choice? Not important. As long as we are exposed to humiliating rituals and games, all is good.

Glad I commuted to the office to have teams calls with extra slow internet and an obnoxiously wide single computer monitor.
Reasoning the result of many decisions as simple incompetence is convenient. There is a famous quote the states, “Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by incompetence.” — often attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte and later to Robert J. Hanlon. However, this perspective never fully considers the foundational goals of those who subjugate. Consider government, one often likes to think our leaders are fools who make poor decisions resulting in all manner of failure, calamities and blunders. It is wiser to understand that their goals are actually not aligned with the benefit of the people. They are not there to serve but rather to control. Waste, fraud, grift and deception are core functional elements of the bureaucracy; one can be fairly certain that the outcomes achieved were what was truly intended. Leadership is neither dull nor dim; their objectives and edicts do not make sense to the masses simply because they are contrary to the greater good or fall short of best course of action. This is intentional. The 1% do not fret over the struggles of the masses, they are too busy ensuring the separation of kind and perpetuating their own comfort.
its about control not productivity
OP…it’s not by design. It’s called incompetence. MW isn’t smart enough to be that calculating.
