Magical layoffs. They exist only if they’re mentioned.

I mean… it’s beyond ridiculous that leadership refuses to acknowledge layoffs that have happened, are happening, and will keep happening until who knows when. The gaslighting is unreal, and so is the complete lack of the most basic requirement of leadership - owning up to actions and their consequences for the people you lead.

GOA Exploration—A Masterclass in Missed Opportunities

Let’s talk about GOA exploration. Or rather, let’s talk about whatever this slow-motion implosion is pretending to be. Because calling it “exploration” at this point feels like calling a flat tire a transportation strategy.

The whole thing is a total fiasco. No clear goals, no coherent plan, and absolutely no accountability. It’s like watching a group of people try to build a rocket using IKEA instructions written in crayon. Every meeting feels like déjà vu—same confusion, different day.

Now let’s get to the real issue: leadership. The level of professionalism among the managers and team leads is so low it’s practically subterranean. We’re talking about folks who confuse noise with strategy, who think “mentoring” means forwarding a link to a webinar, and whose idea of technical excellence is copy-pasting last year’s slide deck. It’s not just unprofessional—it’s actively counterproductive.

And then came the layoffs. And guess what? The good people—the ones who actually knew what they were doing, who brought real value, who kept the wheels turning despite the chaos—they were the ones left standing. Not because they were protected, but because they were overlooked. Somehow, the folks who could’ve helped fix this mess are gone, while the ones steering it into the ditch are still calling the shots.

It’s frustrating to watch talent get wasted while dysfunction gets promoted. If GOA wants to be taken seriously, it needs a hard reset—starting with leadership that knows the difference between a basin and a buzzword.

Unbelievable

I have never sat on an all hands call for any organization except for Oracle who today shared on their all-hands call that Oracle is doing great, we are promoting two people to CEO status, had a stellar and historiacl Q1 earnings call, and not mention that thousands of people were only fired less then 20 days ago and no mention of that. That is just not a critique on Oracle alone, but a critique of corporate America.

Being phased out?

Instead of being laid off, I’m beginning to think my job may be phased out. I work remotely for AbleTo which was acquired by Optum a few years back. I won’t go into the many never ending changes but it continues to feel like we may not be around much longer. We recently received an email that are caseloads will be low for awhile while they negotiate new insurance contracts. In the meantime I went from 19 hours a week to 4. I do have another part time job but I need them both to pay the bills. My manager has no helpful information and above that is tight lipped and dismissive. I also love my clients and the work I do. Does anyone have any insight that could be helpful as to the future based on the overall reduction of work across my company? I’d appreciate any advice

ESPP and LR

I've been curious. If you are LR and the ESPP purchase date 7/1 or 1/1 falls in your notice period before separation agreement kicks in, would this mean you can still buy that round of stock?

More layoffs guaranteed with this

Pfizer (PFE.N) said on Monday it would acquire weight-loss dr-g developer Metsera (MTSR.O) for up to $4.9 billion to secure its position in the lucrative obesity treatment market.

October Surprise

Rumblings of an announcement is expected to occur in the coming weeks. All customer support is headed over seas . SM & below will be impacted. Time for me to put out the resume out before the shtf. Several U.S buildings are slated to be closed within 2026 and head cuts will be announced for fiscal plan.

No way out

I've been in therapy for months because this place finally broke me. I spent years being a model employee and now it’s all threats and retaliation from clueless new bosses. I’m stuck in a tiny market with a chronic illness and no real insurance options, so layoffs petrify me and quitting wasn't even on the table. I used to give everything I had, but that person’s gone.

And this will only get worse

The wave of mass layoffs by big tech (large technology corporations) that has continued since last year is shaking the economy of Seattle, Washington, one of America’s major “technology hubs.”

I like working at Ford

I said it before and I'll say it again. There's so much hate here, but I'm sure at least some others feel the same way I do. I mean, if you hate your job, then why are you so worried about layoffs? I am because I want to stay here. But why do you if you hate it here so much?

H-1B or Gold Card message is loud and clear. These visas are for the elites.

Companies have been abusing the H-1B to replace US workers with lower-wage foreign workers.

People holding a H-1B visa will now feel insecure and are now planning for an exit from the USA. They now have a target on their back from the US government, telling them that they're not welcome.

Companies will now be reluctant to add additional H-1B visas, as it will be financially unfeasible in most cases.

No one can predict when the US government will instate legislation to once again change things around for the H-1B visa, which could be worse.

I have some personal advice for those here with an H-1B visa. Go and find something better either in your home country or another country that welcomes you. This company and country are not worth it.

I'm personally still with this company because I'm old and was hoping to retire with this company. Yes, I was stupid and have now missed the volunteer retirement boat. I thought I would ride it out for a few more years and eventually sign up for a retirement package or just get laid off. The work atmosphere not only su-ks for H-1B visa people, but it just su-ks for everyone. This once company that I was proud to work for has been long gone. I should have moved on long ago but was too lazy to believe what was coming; I was also a strong believer in Pat. I don't blame anyone except myself for not signing up for the volunteer retirement package that Pat offered.

H-1B visa holders, the present is the best time to plan for an exit. This is a chess match where there's no winning.

Massive USA layoffs due to new Trump H1-B $100 per application fee

The recent increase in the H-1B visa fee to $100,000 significantly impacts companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which heavily rely on exploitation of Indian workers using this visa program to employ serf workers in the U.S.
Financial Implications for TCS
ASPECT DETAILS
Current H-1B Visa Fee Approximately $1,500
New H-1B Visa Fee $100,000 per application
Estimated Cost Increase From about $13.4 million to $1.34 billion annually for Indian IT firms
Dependency on H-1B Visas TCS will reduce the USA workforce by 5,000 - 10,000 workers with no severance to ensure profits and senior management bonuses are met for the Sahibs and Zamindars to ensure their loyalty.

US citizens will be prioritized to be fired first during the first round of firings.
So much for loyalty

Last week for many - learnings

My understanding is it’s the last week/s for many, especially in Technology in the UK.

Words of wisdom from someone who has already left:

1) Use GivingForce and utilise your annual donation amount to your local charity/school etc. Apply using volunteer hours and make sure you use those $$ up.

2) Use energise points!! As long as you have a good relationship with your line manager (lots of which are also impacted), they will approve anything. So talk to your friends in the company, especially those who are also leaving and make sure you send the Sapphire and Platinum awards to each other. If you were smart, you would have been doing this since you were made aware of your situation, but it’s still not too late. Also send one for your line manager if you like them, or have been supported.

3) Use LHH - I found them good for CV review. Better some help than nothing.

4) Any employee match shares will vest ~1 month after you leave. Probably best to keep a little while longer though as it wouldn’t surprise me to see a short term gain in share price before all the job cuts really starts to impact in the next 1.5 years.

5) There is life after BP. BP is a big corporate, and despite the market, are likely to have solid enterprise experience which believe it or not, is quite hard to find sometimes. Take a break, and get back into it when needed. For all its failings and leadership issues, a lot of good work is done by many, and you’d be surprised by just how much you have managed to accomplish despite the internal struggles.

PROJECT HAIL MARY - Independent resellers

Another poorly named internal Xerox project.
The time is near. One last attempt to maintain relevance and it’ll come at the expense of what’s left of the sales team.
Customers will shift to inside sales (remember the Texas facility that just opened) , or be sold off to resellers. IT will be packaged and sold off.
If you’ve been hanging on, your time is almost up. Get out now.

BHP blames ‘coal tax’ for job layoffs

On Wednesday, BHP escalated its campaign by blaming “unsustainable” royalties and market conditions for its decision with its joint venture partner, Mitsubishi, to suspend operations at its Saraji South coalmine in the Bowen Basin, and slash 750 roles across the state.

The big miner said it will also conduct a strategic review of the BHP FutureFit Academy in Mackay – an educational facility that trains new miners – because of the royalty scheme’s “unsustainable impact on our business returns”.

Shortly after the announcement, two other miners operating in Queensland, Anglo American and QCoal, revealed job cuts.

If there were any real options out there

I’d be gone in a heartbeat. But the job market is a nightmare, and that’s the only reason so many of us are losing sleep over the threat of layoffs at a company hardly anyone actually wants to work for. In any other circumstances, leaving this company in the rearview mirror would only be a good thing.
