It's always the same play at AAP

Every time they want a quick win on the balance sheet, the first thing they reach for is another round of cuts. There is no real strategy behind it, just the same tired playbook of downsizing teams and offloading pieces of the company. The people running the place have stopped trying to build anything and are just stripping it down piece by piece to make the numbers look good for a moment.

The new and improved forever layoff model

Expect to see the recently reported forever layoff model. This is a persistent, all year method for layoffs where they happen in artisanal small batch format to prevent investors from getting alarmed.

Large companies do the showy layoff where they announce large layoffs then hire the same or greater number with h1b or offshore. Thus keeping the same headcount to keep from alarming investors.

Trapp Technology / ArmorPoint Layoffs

Trapp Technology (parent company of ArmorPoint) in Phoenix, AZ has laid off 9% of its workforce as it continues downsizing in efforts to buoy the struggling ArmorPoint line of services. Due to the continued rolling layoffs the company has discontinued its overnight support. The company has shed around 29% of its total workforce since 2024 through smaller staffing reductions.

silent layoffs.

they are silently reducing people and giving out severance packages already. More to come. Before you ask me how I know. Go to your outlook and lookup “usrifsupport@thomsonreuters.com”. Then ask me again how I know and why I would be d-mb enough to tell you all. Not fear mongering but all I’m saying is just apply and keep your resume updated just in case because this isn’t TR specific and all organizations are downsizing due to AI.

History of Corporate America's Layoffs

For those of you too young to remember, he's the basic history of Corporate layoffs in America that all started with the government mandated breakup of the AT&T Bell System telephone monopoly on January 1, 1984 ("Divestiture" of AT&T's local Telephone Operating Companies, including Bell Atlantic).

AT&T Information Systems (IS) layoffs started in January 1984 that impacted ~25,000 employees with literally dozens of major rounds of cutbacks at AT&T following well into the 2000's. When it first began to happen it was literally a feeling of disbelief by not only by AT&T employees and their families, who were used to the benevolent Bell System ("Ma Bell") work culture, but also by Americans at large who couldn't fully grasp that the "contract" of employment for life was over at major companies. IBM soon followed suite and once they did the floodgates opened up on mass corporate layoffs which soon became commonplace and continue to this day.

1,140 layoffs

General Motors has scheduled 1,140 employees for permanent layoffs effective Jan. 5 at its Factory Zero site in Detroit. The list includes hundreds of assembly operators and is "due to production schedule adjustment required to adapt to slower near-term EV adoption," the company said in a notice to state of Michigan officials.

This company has seen its best days

From here, it’s only going down. Everything is changing so fast, and we’re nowhere near keeping up. If you’re smart, you’re already hunting for a new opportunity, because waiting around is just going to mean going down with this ship. At this point, it’s not a question of if it sinks, but when, and being proactive is the only way to have any control over what happens next.

Which groups are getting quietly downsized?

No announced LR, but it seems like there are personnel that are getting cut across different groups and divisions this month. Does anyone one else notice the headcount reductions? If so, what groups, divisions, etc. are getting targeted?

AI Technology

It was a privilege to host Bridget Engle, in Charlotte for a deep dive into our technology strategy and execution.

I was incredibly proud to see our teams demonstrate how they are turning that strategy into reality. From Al-driven (All Indian Driven) automation to engineering next-generation payment platforms, the focus was squarely on impact - delivering powerful, secure solutions that create real-world value for our customers.
These sessions are vital. They connect our enterprise vision directly to the teams on the ground and reinforce our shared commitment to solving complex problems that will advance the future of finance.

At Wells Fargo, we are dedicated to leading that charge. It's our people who are making it happen.

They know exactly what they're doing.

Don't ask "how do they expect [any function] to continue?". They don't. Verizon will look completely different very quickly and your job, if you still have one, is going to change. Whether it's a sale, merger, or complete dismantling, the old phone company is no more.

So much for

So much for jobs coming back to the US. Mid and entry level jobs are disappearing by the tens of thousands and the trend is accelerating thanks to enhanced AI and its adoption across the jobs universe. Finance, law, entertainment are all in its crosshairs and the only people benefitting are those who can afford to play in the stock market. It’s time to rethink what’s happening around us.

Verizon Layoffs Nothing To Do With Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Just think, this round of Verizon layoffs have nothing to do with Artifcial Intelligence. Once AI and its resulting streamlining of required human resources takes hold at Verizon the possibilities for recurring downsizing are highly likely.

May be time for VZ'ers to seriously start looking for a more trade based occupation.

Nutanix on the brink?

What is happening with this layoff cycle? Very highly skilled employees were gone. It feels this has become another Vmware.

Are we getting prepared for a takeover just like how Broadcom destroyed Vmwareand laid off 19 THOUNSANDS employees?

We are getting squeezed by new small startups due to corporate failures.

Verizon to cut 15,000 jobs as new CEO restructures company
