Oracle is locking in a mountain of electricity for its AI ambitions, signing on for up to 2.8 gigawatts of Bloom Energy fuel-cell power to feed its data-center buildout. An initial 1.2 GW is already under contract and is being rolled out across Oracle projects this year and through 2027. The deal highlights how the AI bo-m is forcing cloud giants to secure their own on-site power instead of waiting in line for slow utility interconnections.

Will Oracle layoff in 2026?
The layoffs were anticipated to occur in phases, with the first taking effect in October, another in January and the final layoff on June 30, 2026, which is expected to be the final closure date of the San Jose facility

Western Digital Cuts San Jose Positions

Western Digital initiated job reductions within the Bay Area region. The San Jose headquarters saw 87 job losses. A WARN notice confirmed the January 20 date. Western Digital stated these job changes are permanent. No employee displacement or union representation exists.
