IT Town Hall

Riddle me this Batman - how is there an IT workshop going on this week in the Jersey City office and we just had an IT Town Hall where the CIO says there’s nothing new to share. You are leading the workshop! and clearly planning for the IT work related to the merger. As one commenter said in the mtg, just say you can’t discuss it at this time instead of saying you don’t know. You clearly know as you are ELT and you are leading the IT merger workshop for Corebridge. This is where you lose the trust of your people.SMH

Help desk frustration

Today marked the 6th day I have been unable to work. Last Wednesday I called the help desk because my computer would not power on. The lady I spoke to on the first call asked what I did. Nothing! I tried to start my day. She then had me perform a series of things that did nothing except waste 45 minutes. The ticket was sent over to the next group. It wasn't until the following afternoon that someone called. Why did it take a day and a half to call someone with a broken computer? Is there no urgency? The man that called me I could not understand. He barely spoke above a whisper, sounded like he had marbles in his mouth, mumbling, and didn't seem like he knew what was going on. He again had me unplug things, then said he would call me back. 30 minutes later he called back to again unplug things then said he would call back. This happened 3 times. If you don't know what's going on, then have someone else call me. He said he would send me a new computer. On Monday, I called the help desk to ask where the package was, I was told nothing shipped. Tuesday was the same update. Yesterday my manager called and demanded one be sent overnight. At the end of today, the status was one will be shipped but it missed the last pickup for the day. Now it won't be until Monday until it arrives. I'm livid that I had to burn my PTO on a negligent IT department. Tomorrow i'm calling HR to file a complaint.

IT is impossible to work with at Chevron

I’ve been here for 3 years now. Software engineer. Came from a smaller company in a different industry.

Trying to build and deploy ANYTHING at this company is the most frustrating thing I’ve ever had to do. Getting access to do anything in Azure is frustrating creating resources in azure is frustrating deploying anything to prod in azure is frustrating and fails if you have a single character out of place. Playbooks are all over the place and impossible to find unless you know the secret phrase. I could deploy in less than 5 minutes at my last job, here I plan on it taking half a day.

We even started using power apps last year just to avoid the azure headaches even though I never wanted to consider it. It actually worked pretty well but apparently the power app lead left and now we have nobody who can answer our questions as we figure the platform out, so it’s back to square one.

Why does IT in Chevron make it so hard for developers to do anything? At least we got GitHub copilot. I just want to build sh-t and get it to our users. I’m already looking for the next job somewhere else that lets me do my work.

New laptop?

Has anyone else ever received an email from Business Technology Solutions that it's time to replace their laptop? The email is from Centene Laptop Refresh Program.

No one else that I know (not even my PL who has been there longer than me) has received this email or replaced their laptop if it was functioning properly. My laptop is working just fine and this will just be one more hassle that I frankly don't have time to deal with. Does anybody know what this is about?

VPN Issues

Hi - my VPN used to stay connected for about 20 hours. Now, if I go eat lunch for an hour and come back my emails haven’t updated and say no internet on Teams. This will happen after work as well. So basically it will stop connection if I’m away for more than an hour. Anyone else have this issue?

Working in IT

What is it like working in IT? Does the culture vary by team, department, or division? What is the work-life balance like? Just looking for an honest assessment here...understand opinions and experiences may vary. Thanks

IT LT attrition

LC losing the FLT. Subsurface and C&C GMs both gone. Just the plan he had so he can insert his General Motors cronies disguised as EY consultants.

Who’s next to leave? TK? KB? Those are the only 2 left from the original BB crew. Every single one of them “retired” early or left.

Even with the golden handcuffs of LTIP, all these PSG 26+ are leaving IT voluntarily.

Which channel on slack shows total headcount? #it-support only showing ~148k

There’s no way they let go of 20k people already

Census optimization apology

Apologies.
Please be aware that planned optimization activities must be postponed this weekend because we migrated our accounts and nobody in the department can reach the share point with the list of lucky block 6 lottery winners.
We are working around the clock and expect to have normal randomized employee census optimization up and running soon.
IT apologies for any delay in receiving your severance.

PS : next month we expect to have the census agent bot up and running. It will work round the clock to detect any employee down time and automatically fire people when direct labor drops below daily targets.
These are exciting times.

Happy separations day!

2026 JE Calendar Dates

Anyone know if the JE calendar was updated for the rest of the year? I heard there was something in April? If IT is really moving toward a 70/30 HIH/US split, it seems like there will be quite a few more JEs coming up. Low key hoping I get the axe 😬
