Plan B

It’s important to always keep a Plan B. These days, AI is reshaping many roles across the job market. In the case of FIS, the situation is different—they’re facing internal challenges and financial pressure, which is why layoffs are happening.

During times like this, it’s wise to avoid major financial commitments such as buying a house, an expensive car, or any investment that requires high monthly payments. Focus on saving, staying financially flexible, and preparing yourself for alternative job opportunities. If your role at FIS is stable and not outsourced, staying put until things settle over the next year to year and a half can also be a practical choice.

At the same time, start learning AI‑related skills and explore internal or external opportunities that align with future technology trends. With global conflicts and economic uncertainty, many projects are delayed, and the environment is challenging for everyone. Hopefully, things will stabilize soon

If you're safe today, congratulations, but don't get too comfortable

FIS strategy has shifted to AI-first, instead of people matters. No matter if AI is just an excuse for cost reduction or not, if you're safe today, don't get comfortable, prepare your Plan B or Plan C. We as a tech company, as long as your job is working on your laptop, you are in danger of getting replaced by AI or cheaper labor.

Maybe you will think, okay, I'm an SME and I have unique domain knowledge, and I'm the 'valued retained team members". No, the messages you sent on Teams, the documents you saved on SharePoint and laptop, any work you do, are all training material for AI within this company (within any company having AI)

FIS keeps you today, not because of you being valuable, it's ONLY because of replacing you is A BIT MORE EXPENSIVE 'at this moment'. Please take a breath, give yourself a break, but don't get comfortable. Polish your resume, start networking, and look for a better job somewhere else.

Ford - Avoid at All Costs

I worked here for five years, straight out of college, at the time I thought it was normal. Then I moved on to a competitor, and later a supplier. Ford was the worst of the bunch—terribly hostile relationships. I’m hearing from friends at Ford that things have gotten even worse than they were 10 years ago. Reflecting on my past, I must admit that I worked there, but not proud of it. If you’re a college graduate, I strongly advise you to avoid joining at all costs.

To those who believe their layoff is Unjustified..

Whether it is a fake PIP program based layoff or direct layoff, if you had a good track record yet you were laid off because you are a US Citizen while the manager wants to fill your position with a H1B visa holder..

As per USCIS's Employment visa rules, employers 'vouch' that there is no equivalent American citizen available, hence they are sponsoring a foreign national for H1B visa.

But the reality is quite different. Just produce the facts related to Fiserv i.e. how many US citizens were laid off while Fiserv continuously sponsoring H1B visas and majorly Green Cards where they prove to US DOL with complete documentation that absolutely there is no citizen available for that position and ONLY that particular foreign national is the PERFECT fit that position to get the PERM clearance. How fake it can be these days..

Just provide the facts to USCIS and copy to Stephen Miller White House Deputy Chief of Staff for policy and Homeland Security, Copy to local DOL's authorities.

HR Schills will delete this message before it is read by others..

Any job is better than unemployment

I know many are tempted to quit with cuts and uncertainty but unless you have something lined up, don't. Even a horrible job that pays the bills is better than unemployment at a time when job market is among the worst it's ever been. Don't make the mistake of putting yourself into an even worse position on an impulse.

Buy the stock!

All concerns are just temp. Sales/profits are growing fast. This will offset debt over time... recent OpenAI funding reduces risk around its contract with us. Debt peaked. We are valued at 20x revenue, below averages - when we adjust to 25x the stock goes to $240 which is a 60% bump. Thank me later.

Avaya Nexus?

Can some explain wha the heck this even is without all the ridiculous jargin on the website and launch announcements?

This headline is incomprehensible:
“Avaya Nexus: Announcing The Security-First Voice Platform For Mission Critical Teams”

Another example: “ Avaya Nexus™, a companion product for Avaya Infinity, is specifically designed for no-fail, highly-regulated environments including emergency services, defense, government, healthcare, financial services, and public utilities.”

A companion product that does what? And fixes what problem? The marketing is awful

What’s your best advice for those who want to tough it out?

Serious question: What advice would you give to a very capable employee who isn’t one of the anointed ones (not in a leadership development program and not part of a good old boy network and who spends their time getting work done and has no patience for schmoozing) but who decides they want to tough it out at Verizon. Is it a hopeless situation?

Anyone lingering here that left for St!f€L?

Anyone here left EDJ for a competitor in the St. Louis area that starts with an S? I’d really love some honest feedback on the culture.

I’m currently down to the final two candidates for a role there, and it comes with about a 30% pay increase. I already know three people who work there, and they’ve all said the culture feels more genuine. Less “cult-y” than EDJ, and way less corporate jargon. No constant “circle back,” “put a pin in it,” or meetings just for the sake of having meetings instead of actually getting work done.

What I’m really looking for is a place with real people and a normal, grounded culture. A team that communicates like humans and focuses on results without all the fluff or being micromanaged by layers of leadership. I don’t even care that they are in the office now. I don’t want to pretend to be a fake anymore. I want someone honest who is gonna say “I don’t know, I’ll find out” instead of “that’s a good question, let me get back to you” (and never do).

That said, I’m nervous. The pay is better, but I’d be giving up PTO accrual, and I’ve heard the benefits aren’t as good and are higher than what we have now.

I’m honestly torn. I want to leave EDJ, but I also know the grass isn’t always greener. If you’ve made a similar move, I’d really appreciate hearing how it worked out for you.

Recommendations of any kind

Is it true that the bank won't allow for a manager to write a recommendation for a former employee?
In my particular situation, I used the LinkedIn recommendation tool and requested one and that was the response I received.

I tried this because a former coworker of mine mentioned they asked for one and they had no problem in getting one. So I thought, well why not? Even my manager said to me when we said goodbye, that if I needed anything at all please reach out.
What else could they do to help besides give a recommendation etc.?

I almost feel they could if they wanted too they would, but for some reason, albeit a personal reason (though they would never admit) is causing them not too.

It hurts so bad to be told and thrown out of a job from someone you really went out of your way to assist on many occasions and gave praise and encouragement and built a meaningful relationship with business wise.

The fact because you're not able to travel the 3 days a week because you can't afford to get there was the only reason you didn't stay.

Its alarming when they stop speaking to you and delete you off all social media for no reason. Wont respond to you no matter what when attempting contact to see how they are doing.
You feel it's because of that (leaving on good terms, told to stay in contact, so what else could it be)?

I can speak for many I believe that a fully remote no questions asked option when we all came back from covid should have been a reality. This whole location strategy and layoff fiasco could all have been avoided had this happened:

For example **

option A: Full-time remote. There will always be enough people to fill the offices so I don't know why there is/was such heavy handed approach towards that.

Or option B Full office: Everything as usual for whoever wanted to go in.

Those are the only options that should have been presented after coming back. The choice should have been simple and permanent, everyone would have been happy and life could have continued on as intended. I'd still be working there, if they weren't so strict on wfh.

Island of misfit toys

Y’all have been unconscious on ventilators since Ursula “burns it down”. She infected Xerox with the ACS virus then turned the Company into a Zombie entity shedding that albatross . She was in our location in Lewisville, Tex the day Carl Icahn (zombie ki-ler) announced he was seeking control. Talk about losing at checkers vs winning at 3d chess. That you are still all living the Zombie dream is just sad. Sorry. I retired early in 2017 after 30 before the vrifs got infected. Got salary and medical continuation and a pumped lump sum due to rock bottom interest rate/ annuity RIGP calculus. Go find an AI product sector job or a AI data center job or ai supply chain gig or ai power generation and consumption scaling job now-and stop your Zombie chittering and infecting other good flesh. Xerox is just a zombie “last of us” island
Get out!

What I wish someone told me

When I started out, I believed that working harder meant getting ahead, so I often stayed late, skipped lunch, came in on weekends, and even covered for people who weren't there because the company wouldn't hire enough staff. Do you know what I got in return? More work, and nothing else. No promotion, no bonus, just a growing pile of responsibilities until I eventually burned out and had to take leave.

That is why my advice to anyone early in their career is simple: don't do it. Do your job well, but do it at a reasonable pace and don't sacrifice your health trying to compensate for problems the company created. If they're understaffed, that is a choice they made, and they should be the ones dealing with the consequences. Don't protect them from their own bad decisions by wearing yourself down.

And the truth is, they are not going to fire you for working normal hours, because if they did, who would be left to do the work?

Learn from my mistakes

Never work for free. If they say do more now and it'll pay off later, don't believe it. Don't do extra unless the extra shows up in your check in a way of a promotion or a raise. It's not worth it because it never materializes.

Curious to see where you went after Nielsen?

I see posts from people here that say they left Nielsen and they are happier and/or they earn more money at their new jobs. Some of you even say that you've "found freedom". For those of us that are looking for work it would be really helpful if you could let us know what job you were doing with Nielsen and where you went? Let us know if any of your Nielsen skills transferred over that your new employer may have been interested in.

Don’t hesitate to lawyer up!

Here’s a piece of advice for those still at Verizon: don’t hesitate to consult with an employment lawyer promptly when your management does something illegal. It’s been my experience that they get away with things because employees tend to let things slide. For example, you only have 180 days to file an age discrimination complaint. There have been many instances of management choosing an inexperienced “leadership development” candidate over a much more capable and experienced employee. Document as much as you can discreetly then consult with a lawyer. At the same time start applying elsewhere.

Making them face the consequences for their illegal behavior is the only way to put an end to it.

Office Survival Skills

  1. Never explain yourself under pressure

    • Being forced to explain yourself often places you in a submissive position.
    • If a question is framed this way, point it out directly.
    • Example: "I don't think you meant to, but that question puts me in a position where I have to justify myself, and that is not a role I am going to take right now."
  2. Never argue about your motives

    • Do not engage in debates about what your intentions supposedly were.
    • Call out the framing instead.
    • Example: "The way that was said puts me in a position where I have to defend my character."
  3. Never take the bait on character attacks

    • Avoid engaging with accusations about who you are as a person.
    • Do not argue over identity or character.
  4. Never apologize simply to de escalate

    • With a manipulator, the apology they push for is often meant as an admission of guilt.
    • It usually does not resolve the underlying issue.
  5. Never match emotional intensity to prove your point

    • Do not mirror someone else's anger or intensity.
    • Escalating emotion rarely strengthens an argument.
  6. Never accept someone else's language without precision

    • Words like disrespect, abuse, or betrayal can shape the narrative.
    • Accepting those labels without clarification lets someone else define the situation.
    • Clarify what they specifically mean before engaging with the claim.
  7. Never accept binary traps

    • Avoid being forced into yes or no or either or answers when the situation is more complex.
    • Seek specificity.
    • Ask clarifying questions such as:
      • "When you said that, what specifically are you referring to?"
      • "What outcome are you hoping for here?"
  8. Never try to win through logic alone

    • Arguments are not always resolved through logic by itself.
    • Emotional dynamics, framing, and intentions often influence the outcome.

Quarterly Reviews

How are your reviews going? Have you been told that you need to increase your productivity? With less people. With no one to make decisions. With product owners not working with the team to guide decisions, not attending meetings, or responding to questions. With a loose roadmap that changes as often as the leadership changes.

And the recommendation by management is to work more hours including nights and weekends. Assume that AI will be the solution to all your problems. Do more in less time with less resources. That is not a request. That is a command. And no, you will not be incentivized to do more.

Don't forget, we expect this from you with no real support from us. We (mgt) are too busy trying to save ourselves with the new executives on the merry-go-round. Our theory is if we can last a year, we are likely to outlive their terms here at Teradata given their work histories.

So hang on. Work like you are fighting for your life, because you are. Do not sleep. Do not have a family. Just do what we tell you, until we change our minds. And if you do all that, you may - or may not- still have a job tomorrow.

Advice on getting promoted to Director, In Store

I have been an executive for a several years now and have rotated thru Sales Manager , Merchandising Manager (SMM) and now MBA looking to get a promotion to Director In Store in the 🤞 near future any advice on what I can do to stand out and make this happen, I have been in discussions with my store manager on how we will get me there but it’s always good to get extra input on what might help

Thoughts on next LP?

Curious what everyone thinks about the upcoming LP. I feel like it is too good to be true about uncapping the profits (I think they said this?). Meaning we can go about the fixed return. I might be wrong but it all seems too good to be true. Anyone have any insight as to what is actually happening or what this offer might be?
