Just be willing to relocate if an opportunity arises. In the past, most people would relocate to another state or district in order to get a role that eventually put them into position they wanted.
In a perfect world. You would already know the answer
Not to be rude, but if you have to ask that should be an answer right there for you. If your Store Manager and/or Divisonal Leader is not talking about it. Thats a sign your not on their radar for that job. Keep working hard for the dream.
Be careful what you wish for. Especially now that Store Directors need to sign a contract so to speak that says if they’re not ready within an allotted time (I think 24 months) to be a store manager, essentially you could lose your job. If that doesn’t sway you and you really want that position, get some face time with your DVP. Every visit, make a point to connect and present your business, share what your doing to drive your business, develop your team, etc.
You could give your boss a handy J
In order to land that role, they MUST see you becoming a store manager. It’s the only way to get past manager. So you need to have leadership capabilities two levels ahead of where you sit today. I caution you though, hitting that level and beyond has pitfalls. You are safe in a manager role, but go higher you place yourself at risk. If at any point while you are a director you fail to meet expectations or your potential to be come a store manager is in question, you could be pushed out. Same when you are a senior director. One blip, bad visit or two, or even for political reasons. you’re gone. I have seen many career end in this manner. Be cautious.
