Does ConocoPhillips have the capacity and technical rigor to return to Venezuela?

ConocoPhillips had extensive and profitable operations in Venezuela. With the country’s expressed interest that oil operators return will ConocoPhillips return and use its technical acumen with horizontal wells and frac technology to deliver exceptional results in Venezuela?

Obviously intentional, not incompetence

The company eventually achieved the Grand or GRAT target of 50 billion.
Well done, you may have sold your sole to do it.

Now, well the market is always hard, and these businesses, International Footwear and Apparel are competitive, fickle, and were roiled by COVID and Now Tariffs.

A managed teconstruction to a profitable 35 billion dollar firm, with International Licensees, like China would certainly serve TAK better.

I'm s-c-r-e-w-e-d

I'm stuck on the Gainwell contact. And appear to blocked from making any laternal moves, inside or outside the contract Which is strike number 1.

Based off the available jobs, they learn toward being available for those outside the U.S. Strike number 2.

Continental Resources planing Houston move to support Argentina and Turkey

Continental is looking to develop international assets as domestic operations are economically challenging due to commodity prices and increasing OPEX.

Anybody hear the Continental will open an office in Houston to support international operations?

Can you smell the fear?

Seems to me that if you :

Work in Wireline you should be worried

Live nowhere near any of the hubs you should be worried

Are a band 6 with no staff you should be worried

Work in Connect you should be worried

Work in International you should be worried

Have no operational role you should be worried

Are not hitting your Sales target you should be worried

If AI can do 60% of your role you should be worried

So I guess there’s 2-3% of the company that can sleep soundly…

International

All the best to the valued colleagues who have been laid off. Good luck. It's International's turn now.
Given that in many countries layoffs must be communicated a month in advance, when can we expect them? Any date? Thank you very much.

Exxon Eyes Return To Iraq, Plans To Explore Majnoon Oil Field: Report

xxon Mobil (XOM) is reportedly planning to re-enter Iraq after exiting in early 2024 by signing agreements to lay the groundwork for exploring the country’s vast Majnoon field.

According to a Bloomberg News report, citing a person familiar with the matter, the oil major plans to sign a heads of agreement with Basra Oil Co. and SOMO, Iraq’s oil marketing company, in the coming days. The report further stated that the deal will include discussions on export infrastructure and potential oil marketing projects in the southern part of the country.

Despite being one of the first Western oil firms to be allowed into Iraq following the toppling of Saddam Hussein’s government, Exxon's operations in the West Asian country have often been marred by major political standoffs, security risks, and contractual disputes. Exxon sold its primary investment in the country, a stake in the West Qurna-1 oil field in southern Iraq, in January 2024.

Retail sentiment on Stocktwits about Exxon was in the ‘neutral’ territory at the time of writing.

Majnoon, located 60 km (37 miles) from Basra in southern Iraq, is one of the biggest oil fields in the world with an estimated reserve of 38 billion barrels. However, Western oil firms have struggled to agree on profit-sharing terms with the Iraqi government, with a prominent example being Shell’s exit from the field in 2017.

The Bloomberg report stated that Exxon would need to complete a series of commercial and technical studies and agree to a production-sharing contract before it begins pumping oil, a process that could take years.

Exxon stock has gained 5.5% this year. Earlier this week, the company stated that it anticipates higher refining margins will boost its third-quarter earnings by $300 million to $700 million, compared to the previous quarter.

However, the Texas-based firm also flagged that restructuring costs could lower its earnings by $400 million to $600 million. The company said last week that it is laying off 2,000 workers amid a decline in oil prices.

International offices

Wondering if anyone has any insight into the process of international layoffs? Would each HR dept be given a budget/number of people to let go? Or would decisions already be made from up top in the US on departments to lay off etc?

CNBC / NBCUniversal Layoffs

CNBC is planning new staff cuts in its international division. About two dozen jobs may be affected, mostly in London and Singapore, with some in other cities. The layoffs are focused on the digital editorial team. Because of UK labor rules, the cuts are in a consultation period before they can be finalized.

These changes come as parent company NBCUniversal prepares to spin off most of its cable networks into a new group called Versant. Bravo will remain with NBCUniversal, but CNBC and others will move. The spinoff is expected soon and is hiring around 750 new staff. Sources say the CNBC layoffs are not directly linked to the Versant launch.

The international arm of CNBC is led by Deep Bagchee, who took over in 2024. He replaced John Casey, a long-time leader at the network. Bagchee has been guiding CNBC’s global coverage in a media world that is shifting quickly to digital.

The outcome of the consultation process will decide how many people lose their jobs. For now, CNBC is trying to cut costs while still aiming to keep its reputation as a top source for business news worldwide.

As a US Based employee, curiosity to what happens (or is there something in place) if Russia continues to escalate and attempt invasion with Poland or things go south quickly there. I worry for them.

Local gov issues orders to establish IBM quantum computer at AQCC

My question is this: What is happening with our IP? Why is this happening in a country that didn't come up with a single innovation in tech or science and for the size of its population only has 12-13 Nobel prizes (just a single measure of non innovation, but there are many others we can quote) and most of the 12-13 in the likes of literature... (nothing against literature, but irrelevant in tech and science)

Andhra Pradesh govt issues orders to establish IBM quantum computer at AQCC

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/vijayawada/andhra-pradesh-govt-issues-orders-to-establish-ibm-quantum-computer-at-aqcc/articleshow/123641275.cms

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh govt has issued formal orders to establish an IBM quantum computer at the Amaravati quantum computing center (AQCC). The project is part of the development of a quantum valley in Amaravati, for which the CRDA has allocated 50 acres.

According to the order issued by IT dept secretary Katamaneni Bhaskar, AQCC will house a 133-qubit, 5,000-gate quantum computer in a 2,000 sq ft facility. The infrastructure will include secure networking, advanced cooling systems, and an uninterrupted power supply to support the high-performance machine. As part of the agreement, IBM will operate from the facility at a concessional rent of ₹30 per sq ft. In exchange, the govt will receive 365 hours of free computing time per year for four years, which will be allocated to govt institutions and for educational use.

In addition, the govt has approved a proposal to set up a smaller quantum computer at Wits University campus at a cost of ₹6 crore, in partnership with AI on the Queue, a Bengaluru-based startup. Amaravati quantum valley is planned as a govt-supported ecosystem to serve universities, research bodies, startups, and industries across multiple fields.

Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is giving top priority to the project with the aim to make Amaravati the country's quantum computing hub. The CM earlier announced that the quantum computing center in Amaravati will be operational by Jan 1, 2026. "The state govt is aiming to produce 100 ‘use' cases by Aug 15, 2026 and emerge as a global player in the quantum-artificial intelligence (AI) movement," he had said.

The state govt aims to generate huge employment in the state with this initiative. IT minister Nara Lokesh said bringing top players to the AQCC is the top priority and hoped that the project will gain pace with the entry of IBM.
