Events Manager position?

I'm currently working for a company who started doing layoffs, and even though my position is secure (as I bring 70% MQLS) to my company, my manager is an a-s who keeps threatening everybody that they will get layoff if they don't work harder. I'm already managing 100 events a year plus all other responsabilities at me job.

I was thinking about applying to the Events Manager position at Finserv but after reading this portal, it's like I'm going from a centralized sh-t show to a massive company wide sh-t show, wtf? Does anybody here works in marketing that can enlight me if this is worth it? (I'm desperate)

Thanks

Geriatric Millennials and young Gen X

Almost every single 40 something CL28 I talk to is being told they have executive potential. DO NOT BELIEVE IT! There will be very few promotions to 29+ especially as the company continues to shrink and offshore jobs to the BTC. The company is luring to you because they need you around a little longer while they ramp up the BTC. It is a LIE to keep you working at ExxonMobil until you are older and have fewer options outside the company. By 2030 the truth will become apparent but by that time it will be too late for you to find another job due to age discrimination. Do not believe their lies and do not delay your exit while you are still young enough to find another job and move on. Even a temporary pay reduction is worth it. In a few years you will be making more especially when considering they are planning below inflation raises for the foreseeable future. #Exxodus

2025 EOY Promotion Timeline

for individual contributor engineers, rumor is that our managers will be entering recommendations for grade bumps by mid-october and promotions will be occurring in november (not sure if early/mid/late in the month). can anyone confirm or add details?

It’s just a job, not a family

I’ll never get why some people act like they’re chained to one company. You're not. Not a single one of us is. If you’re miserable, update your resume, practice your pitch, and start applying elsewhere. No job owns you and there’s always another opportunity waiting, even in this job market.

Stop telling people to quit

A lot of folks say to just quit if we don't like it here, but that’s not realistic for everyone. IT jobs aren’t falling off trees right now, and we'd be competing with a lot of people, especially those of us mid-career or older. Best thing we can do is land something first, and that takes months, if it happens at all. So no, I won't quit for now.

Company Loyalty is a joke

What you have with your employer is a business relationship and not emotional. So stop using words like company loyalty, work family, corporate culture and other BS. The more loyal you are to the company the more you will get hurt when they clip you. Always remember- you are getting paid for your talent and the time spent there. If you want to show loyality - show it yourself, your family, your skills, your health and wealth but NOT to the company you are working for.

Whats going on ?

The company's completely silent. Management was told to just hold the status quo, no new plans. Honestly, I'm just going through the motions now that my VP is gone. We talked about all my career goals, and now he's not around. I'm really not sure what's next with the new leadership; it feels like I'm back at square one.

On top of that, Oracle is tagging everything with "cloud" and "AI." I'm not sure what that means for raises or promotions for us in middleware and other fusion roles. I'm in a tough spot and can't really look for another job. Even if I did, recruiters would probably just see me as one of the recent layoff victims. They barely reach out to Oracle employees as it is, and with these latest layoffs, I doubt they'd even look at my resume.

Should I take off for a week or ten days ?

TIAA Technology

TIAA is ruining career prospects for me. We use outdated legacy tech and things move so slowly. We have to learn tremendously outside of the job to even have a chance getting a better job. Please beware of the consequences of working here. What you think is normal here is actually insanely disorganized.

Still failing to find a way out

I just got a rejection after what felt like weeks of interviews. I have to admit, it’s crushing my confidence when I keep getting so close and then I end up falling short. It makes me question if I’m even doing something wrong or if it’s just the market being brutal.

Career Change

Never until I started working here did I think I would ever pursue a career change in a completely different field. Extra change is going toward savings and extra time (because sc--w working late now) is going toward the classes. It will be my side hustle until the glorious day I resign. And if I get laid off like so many of us, well, I'll be ready. Get out ANY way you can!

I’ve been job hunting like crazy for months

There’s absolutely nothing. I don’t know if it’s just bad luck or if the market is really this broken. If anyone has even the smallest positive story, please share. I need to hear that someone out there actually managed to land a decent job, or at least got an offer. I haven’t had a single callback. It’s infuriating and demoralizing. And now with layoffs hanging over us, I don’t even know how we’re supposed to keep it together.

Start looking now

It really doesn’t matter if you think you’re safe from layoffs or not, because the job market right now is the worst it has been in years. Employers seem to be taking revenge for the Great Resignation, and that means not only is it tough to find a new role, it’s even harder to find one that will pay anywhere close to what you are used to. You honestly have nothing to lose by starting to look now. The worst that can happen is you do not get laid off and end up landing another offer, which is a much better outcome than being suddenly laid off with no prospects lined up, believe me.

Better opportunities

Hi All-

I’m sorry you are going through this. I worked for Walgreens for a long time and then was laid off when my family was going through unimaginable loss and grief. I promise you there are better opportunities and companies out there. Please take care of yourselves and your families.

Better opportunities

Hi All-

I wanted to let you know that there are better opportunities out there. I was laid off and found a much better opportunity afterwards. For those that stay I hope things improve, for those that are considering leaving please know that there are better opportunities out there. Take care of yourselves and your families.

Thoughts on Becoming a Fragrance Associate

I was recently asked by my manager & store manager if I would be interested in becoming a Fragrance Associate. The Fragrance manager in my store has always been impressed with my work & customer service they said. Currently, I am a mattress specialist & my manager & the store manager have told me I would get more commission in Fragrances than mattresses. I told them I would think about it & get back to them with an answer within a few days & they understand. I’m thinking about taking them up on their offer. What are your thoughts on moving from mattresses to fragrances & has any one who was a mattress specialist move to fragrances. I’m looking for opinions on this.

We're witnessing the demise of another corporate giant

Growing up AT&T was the behind company everyone arrived to work for and make the big corporate bucks for life including excellent lifetime pension starting at age 50. GE was the other favorite, immense company excellent funding and salaries for every walk of life. No one could ever imagine those companies would get broken up and career growth and remuneration could be scaled back so much. Now it's ExxonMobil's turn. That seems to be the end game.

Loyalty, Tenure, Job-hoppers, Start-up companies

Some recruiters and companies will question tenure in a company. The perception for staying too long in ONE company is playing safe. Some recruiters are against job-hoppers no longer since it is NOW the norm. Others prefer to hire people who worked for lesser known companies like Alation, Zoox, Snowflake, Earnin, Robinhood who knows what the recruiters think. Have an open mind and create a list of 20-25 target companies (closed to your home and how far willing to commute) Every week apply via their websites directly.

So many close calls

I’ve been looking for a new job for a while, and every time I get to the final interview, I get rejected. It’s mentally draining and discouraging. After so many close calls, it’s hard to stay motivated or maintain any sense of confidence. It's starting to feel like they're intentionally wasting my time. Or I'm just getting paranoid on top of everything else.

Walked away a month ago

I left without any sense of guilt, because I knew I needed a job that didn’t consume my evenings and weekends. At first, I worried about letting my team down, but honestly, no one wins when you’re burned out and running on fumes. Moving to a role with a healthier balance has reminded me how much better life feels when work isn’t draining every ounce of energy you have.
