I know who is impacted by ISP is supposed to be a top secret. But I wonder if some leaders and associates have already received a hint or heads up that they are safe.
The reason I say that is some folks seem so calm and upbeat, while the rest of us are freaking out.

When a company states that it will expand its footprint in an area with a new facility and consolidate 2 sites (Emeryville and San Diego) into one single research site, then something has to give. It won't be the leadership, but everybody else will be on the chopping block in 18-24 months. It is going to be painful for Novartis folks in California!

Letting people go to improve results is short-sighted and self-defeating. It doesn’t solve anything and just shifts the pressure onto those who remain, making everyone miserable and less productive.

It’s wild how quickly someone’s career can be flattened. I know people with decades of experience and leadership history who are suddenly starting over at entry level. Seeing it happen makes you realize no resume or past success guarantees anything. And I'm nowhere near their level, so if I'm laid off, I'm truly sc--wed.

Every time quarterly results disappoint in any way, I start worrying about cuts. It doesn’t take much for leadership to decide and pull the trigger if it helps them get out of the hot seat faster. I might be paranoid, but something tells me I’m not far from the truth.

There’s a town hall scheduled in less than two weeks. Is it related to any news about potential layoffs?

That’s just how it is - layoffs, all the time. We probably won’t even have to wait until next Friday, or Sept 2, or whatever date is floating around, to find out.

Any rumors at all? I seriously doubt they’ll limit it to just redundancies. I expect they’ll go after experienced, skilled veterans too, because that’s what everyone does. Knowing your job often comes at a cost. I’ve yet to see layoffs, here or anywhere else, done strategically. It’s always crude, led by numbers, never real planning.

So that means we’re still a long way from being done? Mid-September is the earliest we can hope for this to finally be over?
