Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Honestly..... Because this thread is a little doomsday and it has you thinking that the sky is collapsing.

Will there be layoffs? Yes, will you be affected, maybe, but probably not. Enjoy the holidays, refresh the resume and you'll be fine.

@ep yep! And they have setup RIFs nicely in tech with AI Dojo. Told people they would get put in a ‘pool’ to be chosen for 2026 AI work (which is all the work) if they finish the course and do the capstone project.

It really meant caste will be used. This is prevalent in most IT shops now and is spreading to other areas. If you’re not within the caste system you’re not in the system. Anti-discrimination, DEI and other corporate policies are completely blind to it and/or have no idea how to deal with it. I think Seattle WA, within the last couple of years, is the only jurisdiction that has banned/called out caste-discrimination.

@bh Management isn't corrupt, they just prefer Indian employees. That's what happens when you put Indians into not just management, but into leadership roles.

Companies this size are unable to redistribute resources effectively...If they had an effective recruiting department they could figure out how to put the people they are canning into other roles...

In a company of 400,000, there is always hiring needs somewhere. If you remember in 2008-10 there was still hiring to specific roles.

My role at UHG is now a grade lower than me. So they can basically audition people for filled roles at reduced pay.

Job postings are for H1Bs who got laid off from their truck driving job after they full sent it into a family minivan, not for you, bud.

Not really. A company will lose a lot of talent creating uncertainty. It is usually best to avoid stigma in corporate worlds dropping random layoffs to please investors. It means that even talented people do not trust that their skills and accomplishments will keep them employed in the environment they are working in. This cost to an organizations quality and efficiency is not usually something the finance people are held accountable for.
