Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Sad times for Dell employees

Nothing to really look forward to in 2026. You will have a company looking to layoff all year and Dell financials will look to suffer in tightening margin pressures against Dell. Ho Ho Ho Merry XMAS

@w The EMC DNA is not healthy - stay away from that bunch - ethnic bias, bro culture, kicks under your waist, nasty people.

@ws not all. Most of the powerprotect suite of apps is all legacy EMC. PPDM and Cyber Recovery are legacy EMC and they're still kicking but not sure for how long.

All I know is that I wouldn't ever recommend Dell as a good place to work to anybody. Not anymore anyways... Quite literally every possible thing that WAS good about Dell either no longer exists or has gone down hill so much that it might as well not even exist. Not to mention, I've never known of a company who is constantly laying off, either. Layoffs happen at every company, sure. That's normal... but at Dell, it's never fkn ending. That, along with a lack of promotions for the last 6 years, comical raises, RTO 5 days/week even though nobody on your team works at your office, etc...

@r9 That's great. Did the same. If you can afford to volunteer for a package, do so. Horrible place to be. Dell has managed to eradicate whatever remaining DNA from Data General and EMC.

@r9 all I can tell you is that you will not live long if you are actually doing this.

I can eat steak every night.

We know we can looked forward to a Ruby Sue Christmas on commission. “We didn't do squat last year, and we still got the shaft!”

@s8 You only get one chance at life, enjoy it while you can. You get no do overs!

@s8 My grandfather was a cattle rancher, he ate steak or another part of a cow almost every day. He also had bacon or sausage with eggs and buttered toast almost every day of his life. He passed away from cancer a few years ago at 102. His cancer was attributed to radiation exposure from nuclear bo-b testing in a neighboring state.

@r9 If you keep eating steak every night, you might not need that IRA for very long

I spent my last 13 years at Dell/EMC pumping the max amount into my 401k and Roth 401k. From 50 to 63 I was able to take advantage of the ability to that extra little bit in to make retirement a lot easier. Now that I am retired with a nice big fat chunk of money in my IRA and Roth IRA and my brokerage account I can eat steak every night.

Take advantage of the benefits that Dell affords you and pack away money into retirement accounts. The one thing I didn’t do was pack money into an HSA.

@kr They tried to do this to me a few years back. Goals they gave me were well above the top 1% of performers on my team. I switched my focus from serving our customers to finding ways to game the system and make my numbers look good. I kept my job and have been the team's top performer for 6 years now, at least on paper. In reality I do 2-3 hours of actual work per day.

@pc made up PIPs and "Coaching"-plans.
No change since end of 2022.

Targets are completley unrealistic dor the last year.I would imagine cutting numbers with PIP's are the plan.

@kr OK, so when one is put on a PiP , it means that this is a one way road to a kick in the buttt. Meaning that best would be to stop doing anything at work and invest PiP time into self-development/upskilling.

@j4 No they don't have to fake anything. All they need to do is put you on a PIP with completely unrealistic goals then they can terminate you with cause when you don't meet the goals. They've already been selectively doing this for 10 years that I know of.

Layoffs are over. Dell's is not going to offer any severance packages going forward. Everything will be performance based with pips.

What to look forward to: the layoff packages that are already filled , with last weeks dates on the paperwork as they have done in the past and perhaps someone with some compassion delayed them being served until the holidays are over.
