US Possible Layoffs

US corporate employees received messaging to work remotely on Thursday January 15th 2026. Reasoning was to facilitate multiple meetings regarding department changes. Very similar tone to last year's email. Staff is worried.

This will backfire

I've never been more productive in my entire career than while working from home. That's about to change. I have no intention of answering any more mails after working hours once RTO starts. Something urgent needs to be addressed as I'm about to leave? It can wait for the next day, I have to go home. And so on.

IS THIS TRUE?

Hey guys, I’m hearing that around some time this year AT&T will be hiring for premier service consultant work from home again. Has anyone heard this same info on customer service jobs continuing work from home ?

Got in trouble with HR for normal PTO usage

Had some wfh days due to flu/illness, and had too many PTO days that created a pattern.

Thanksgiving, Christmas, New years all fell on a Thursday this year, which led to a lot of my off days being similar and created a pattern.

Feels like I got in trouble for very PTO usage and not coming in when I was sick. Now bonus and pay raise is being threatened.

HR is absurdly strict last two years. Seems like they are overhired and just trying to drive people away or find an excuse to pay people less.

Belk HRBP's are WFH id--ts

my daughter needs to be added to my insurence as she is 22 and moved back in my home, and I called, emailed, called again, and emailed again about her getting on my insurence. no responce, nothing. i was told HRBP only can be contacted by email when i called. well they never respond! i called the belk hr number and they dont answer the phone at all. it rings and then stops. i see what everyone else is talking about with these work from home id--ts at belk.

Heard about a Performance Improvement Plan notice handed out today.

It went to someone in our group. The person was told what they were being paid to actually do at Ford did not include being a Social Media Influencer all day long while on the clock while working from home the past two years.

Surprising the person got off with a Performance Improvement Plan handed to them and not fired and walked out the building for everyone to see. Like a Perp walk.

Barnhart OREGON site layoffs

So on Oct 28 there was a bunch of layoffs at the barn (Beaverton/Hillsboro OR). Some of us got to stay and work from home until we're all eventually let go. Huge rumor saying tomorrow is the day we would all be laid off here in Oregon. Does anyone have any information on this,?

Another leadership blunder and another massive waste of money

Moving HQ from Dallas to Plano means billions poured into the new campus, long term lease, buildouts, utilities, security, and facilities just to force people into offices to sit on video calls. All cost. No return.

There’s a cheaper, smarter option leadership refuses to touch.

End five day RTO. Shrink or break the leases. Go remote first.

Office space costs large companies roughly $12,000 to $18,000 per employee per year. With roughly 130,000 employees, that’s $1.5 to $2.3 billion every single year. Over five years, up to $11 billion. Over ten years, north of $20 billion.

Instead of saving billions, leadership is lighting it on fire to defend a failed work model. Plano isn’t a strategy. Five day RTO isn’t leadership. It’s just another expensive mistake employees and shareholders will pay for.

Belk corporate HR is shockingly out of touch with reality

Has anyone ever witnessed a corporate HR department in other jobs as disconnected as Belk’s corporate HR is from stores, corporate office and WFH workers, and store associates as Belk?

Literally 1 HRBP over 100 stores
Who is out of state. Questions about FMLA, Maternity leave, Doesn’t have a clue what’s happening in store, one HRBP claiming she was a previous belk store manager, yet gives the most manufactured, out of touch answers to questions that leave the person with even more unanswered questions. It’s simply called gaslighting 101. If you need H.R. please understand you will get four different answers to the same questions!!

Cookies & Hot Chocolate..

You know, I get they want to do something nice before the holiday but you know what I think everyone would have liked? It would have been nice if they said "Hey, you all can WFH on Wednesday. The fact that there are barely any people in the office, (South Jersey location ) it's not technically a month end yet, and let's be honest, people don't want to be in the office the week of Christmas, but let's have hot chocolate and cookies, that will lessen the blow...

Customer service

I’m a WFH customer service rep and we are being told to give the customer what ever they want! Trying to reduce churn but practically paying customers to stay with us and give us good surveys. I’m not sure how this giveaway could continue, but this is the flavor of the month until further notice!

  • PepsiCo Signals Imminent Layoffs with Work-From-Home Mandate

PepsiCo appears to be the latest major American corporation preparing to reduce its workforce, with reports indicating that job cuts in the United States and Canada could be imminent. The strongest indication of this move comes from a recent directive reported by Bloomberg, which instructed employees in key North American offices—including the company’s headquarters in Purchase, New York, as well as hubs in Chicago and Plano—to work from home this week. This strategy is increasingly utilized by corporate leadership to mitigate the immediate in-office emotional impact and logistical challenges associated with large-scale termination announcements.

The potential restructuring aligns with a broader strategic push to enhance shareholder value and streamline operations. PepsiCo CEO Ramon Laguarta recently issued a memorandum outlining goals for 2026 that prioritize "record productivity savings" and improved operating margins. These changes, which include increased reliance on automation and digitalization, come amidst pressure from activist investor Elliott Investment Management. Elliott, known for aggressively pursuing operational efficiency and cost reductions, recently acquired a substantial $4 billion stake in the beverage and snack giant.

While PepsiCo has not yet officially confirmed specific numbers, executives have increasingly used the term "right-sizing" to describe workforce adjustments. This development follows a smaller reduction in November, where 500 jobs were eliminated following the closure of two Frito-Lay facilities in Florida. The looming layoffs arrive during a mixed financial period for the company; while PepsiCo reported a slight year-over-year revenue increase in the third quarter of 2025, its stock value has dropped approximately 4.5% since the beginning of the year.

Dan's right

He correctly identified many of our weaknesses. That's half the battle--fixing all that won't be so easy.
And he did show that he has some common sense in getting rid of that ridiculous "hub or no promotion" policy. I'd say that bodes well for WFH going forward (perhaps that's wishful thinking).

Can we get some flexibility on RTO in December?

Letting people work from home for the month would be a much needed reset from the weekly he-l of commuting five days a week. Most employees will be on vacation anyway, so how much real collaboration will happen? Offices will be sparsely populated, it’s dark and cold, and seasonal illnesses are everywhere.

Closing the offices for a month would also save a huge amount of money. For a company of AT&T’s size, one month of office expenses: utilities, cleaning, security, and overhead likely runs into tens of millions of dollars. That money could go toward employee bonuses instead of forcing people into empty offices. Employees get relief, morale improves, and the company saves money. Win-win.

ER leadership admit autonomy is what employees want

For holiday weeks Employee Relations lets their people choose to work from home. I'm not saying that there isn't anybody from ER in the office then, but its a tacit admission that they know that employees want the choice for themselves to go into the office or not.
