Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Cookies & Hot Chocolate..

You know, I get they want to do something nice before the holiday but you know what I think everyone would have liked? It would have been nice if they said "Hey, you all can WFH on Wednesday. The fact that there are barely any people in the office, (South Jersey location ) it's not technically a month end yet, and let's be honest, people don't want to be in the office the week of Christmas, but let's have hot chocolate and cookies, that will lessen the blow...

Making people work on the eve of Christmas and then the report of layoffs of key people. Guess they want to show they made a profit before the year is out. Expect more quiet quitting, Sammy-Sun and PK. You brought this on yourselves but you don't care. KMA to both of you POS's.

Expect the same Ghost Town vibe this week and early next week, Sammy Sun. What's the incentive to work when you and PK have obliterated morale into oblivion?

@hp Both SK and PK gain pleasure inflicting pain on others.

The ole work to death ☠️ mentality from Japan at play here. Except it hits a 🧱 brick wall here in America, Sammy-Sun.

Next year, Christmas Eve is on Thursday, so everybody can pretend to be “working” from home. Unless…..King Kobayashi decides to increase office days to 4 or 5 days a week in the meantime.

As predicted, a totally pointless in-office day. 98% of the customers are closed, out of office replies, etc. Meanwhile my family is all gathered without me all day while I waste my time on effectively nothing because we can't make any sales. What a crock. Big double bird to SK and PK for intentionally making the morale here even worse.

Blame MO/PK on trying to get that one extra day of sales.

Good luck trying to reach customers for meter reads, collecting past due payments or whatever they actually think is going to get accomplished tomorrow by the peasants, LMAO.

The whole month-end song & dance is so tiresome. They need to find ways to distribute the work throughout the month.

Hello Leaders of Canon, I understand that Xmas Eve is not an "official" holiday but perhaps you don't understand the reason alot of us feel so negative about not being able to take the day off. Or that we cannot WORK FROM HOME or that the company can't be NICE for once and let us off a few hours early. The teams that are being forced to not take any time off the last 2 weeks of the year are the peons. I guess we are not supposed to enjoy our holidays. You see I have 2 families I celebrate with my husbands family on Xmas eve and then with my family and friends on xmas day. I feel so down this year as if this company does not have any care or empathy. Why are these 'rules' only for certain workers? I've been getting out of office messages all day today with some being out until after the new year! I don't know why I'm even posting here I just feel so sad.

@dk All big companies are run by sociopaths. It's part of the deal. They all WANT to create a hostile work environment. They want another 10-15% of the workforce to leave on their own so Canon doesn't have to pay severance.

If only the job market were better...

@ct One would think a company like Canon who wants to image polish would avoid creating a toxic workplace. But stooping to sitting on a bi-weekly paycheck is a definitely unethical and low-brow. The company is run by sociopaths from all I have read on this forum.

@a4 They haven't let us go home early on the day before a holiday since SK took over, even before CSA was fully absorbed into CUSA. We'll be expected to be "working" our normal hours tomorrow.

I'll probably bring a book to the office, lol.

Agreed, the schedule itself is ridiculous. None of our customers will be open on Wednesday, maybe half of the commercial customers will be open Friday (no education, obviously). But someone on Long Island just couldn't handle the idea of losing the last two in-office days of the year. So, they'll force their own employees into the office to use electricity and water while Canon makes very little to no money tomorrow to justify the expenditure. Nice job...

There's no logic in any of it. That's what sick / personal days are for.

If anyone expects to get their bi-weekly paycheck on January 2, 2026, guess again. Per the company-wide email about pay periods, the pencil necks in payroll will sit or delay our checks until January 9, 2026. In short, a normal 14-day intraveral, will be 21 days. Talk about sitting on our earnings to satisfy their convenience. One more way to start the New Year off: undermine morale.

The fact we have to work on Christmas Eve is beyond terrible. We are not children why on earth would we be excited for hot chocolate and cookies. Now what would be exciting is not having to come into this building on CHRISTMAS EVE

Do they really make everyone stay until 5:00 on Christmas Eve? Every other place I worked previously let us go home by 2:00 .

I mean dang, at least get Junior’s cheesecakes from across the street, sheesh…
