US Legal Work Outsourcing?

Anyone have any more intel on the proposed contracting out of Shell US legal work management to Norton Rose Fulbright and Baker Botts? Would mean a significant reduction in attorney staff with legal cases and litigation then overseen for key issues by only a handful of Shell senior attorneys. Another cost savings move in the offing.

Severance Terms (September 2025 Layoffs)

I've seen some folks reporting 3 weeks per year of tenure and for short-term employees numbers seems to be smaller. I also see that some are reporting that lawyers are advising them to sign. Just curious if we can consolidate what we know about severance for this round of cuts so we can have it here archived for future layoff rounds (I wish I asked this last time too)...

Did you double dip before you left?

Did you double dip and get a free Hess toy truck while also taking a picture by the Hess truck before it leaves forever to New York? How are you feeling after the Churn? Was everyone civilized or was it as dramatic as Rose in the Titanic?

TCS Spokesperson Denies Job Cuts Beyond 12,000

A report said TCS layoffs raised alarms in the IT sector and employees shared forced resignations, a “fluidity test,” and an environment of fear. Some staff were blocked from projects despite skills, while HR reportedly pressured resignations. IT unions condemned the move, calling it mental harassment and a violation of company policies during workforce reductions.

Wonder if the layoff will ever update the site...

About Union Pacific Corp.:
The Union Pacific Railroad is a freight hauling railroad that operates 8,500 locomotives over 32,100 route-miles in 23 states west of Chicago and New Orleans (as of 2016). The Union Pacific Railroad system is the largest in the United States and employs over 40,000 workers. The company is one of the largest transportation companies in the world and is headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska.

We are now about what 28000 employees... maybe? And they HAD 8500 locomotives, they only are running maybe 3300? How many are stored broke or have been sold off?

TI Labor Budget Increase Less Than Cost of Living

Just want people to be aware that the current labor budget increase for TI is only a few percent over the next five years. It's well below a cost of living increase for existing employees assuming no new hires or attrition. There are more layoffs planned for the future.

How Dell with actually profit from the new H1-B visa rules.

Let's turn back the clock a bit. Around ten years ago Dell laid off a lot of long time employees. Employees who had worked for the company for 15 years or more. As you would expect after 15 years, these were very well paid employees across all skill workers.

Dell was still a growing company and could have offered other roles to these employees. However Dell let them go. Needing a wealth of new employees Dell turned to India and the new hires received the kind of lower wages that new employee (performing the same job) would get as opposed to a long time employee.

Now here we are in 2025. Those H1-B hires are now in their tenth year. Through annual raises they are now a bigger hit to OPEX. Now comes Trump's new H1-B policy. So now Dell gets to layoff veteran and costly H1-B and blame it on the new H1-B policy. But now they simply run the same gambit of laying of veteran employees for new lower paid replacement and look innocent free.

It's like in that movie The Sting. Never let your mark know they were stung.

Big Tech Axes American Jobs, Imports Foreign Labor and Blames AI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-Ecodxn5m4

Major tech companies including Meta, Google, Salesforce, Amazon, and Tesla continue to announce large-scale layoffs, often attributing them to advances in artificial intelligence. At the same time, firms are quietly expanding through H-1B visa hiring and outsourcing to countries like India, where more than 1.6 million people now work in global capacity centers.

Data shows Salesforce, for example, cut nearly 4,000 employees while bringing in roughly the same number of visa workers over the past three years. Tesla faces lawsuits alleging the replacement of thousands of American workers with cheaper foreign labor. Amazon, despite claims of automation, secured more than 12,000 visas in 2025 alone.

Executives benefit from this strategy: every announcement of “AI layoffs” drives stock prices higher and boosts their compensation. Policies such as the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act further incentivize offshoring by lowering tax rates on overseas profits.

While AI is genuinely replacing some jobs—particularly in content moderation, customer service, and IT support—corporations are also using the technology as a convenient narrative to mask cost-cutting and labor exploitation. Unemployment among U.S. computer engineering graduates has tripled in a year, and many new graduates are struggling to secure entry-level roles that have been systematically reduced.

The long-term risk mirrors the manufacturing exodus to China in the 1980s and 1990s: a hollowing out of U.S. jobs while overseas economies flourish.

When you think you're safe from a RIF - you are not.

The past year I've been settled in cruising, super productive, high touch customer engagement activities that were directly tied to a revenue stream, 5 rating all around, visibility up to my VP. The thought of a RIF was the absolute further thing from my mind. And guess what, I got that 15 minute appointment scheduled in my calendar a few Monday's back, and it all ended. So for everyone left at Oracle thinking you're untouchable because of what you do, think twice. You/we really are just a number and when your time is up, someone up high will punch your ticket and you'll get that tap on the shoulder from your manager.

This is why we're being laid off.

If AT&T had:
Skipped DirecTV & Time Warner
Kept debt $250 B today
→ Same dividend dollars, but 2× per-share payout and higher equity value
This is the opportunity cost of “empire building.”

The acquisitions didn’t create incremental distributable cash; they masked stagnation until the balance sheet cracked.

Citi giving $80BN assets to Blackrock for management

So earlier this month, it was announced that Citi is giving BlackRock $80BN assets for them to manage, and in the process, will be taking some CIM portfolio managers with them as BlackRock employees. I guess Citi is ultimately trying to get rid of in-house management. However, nothing was said about the back office and support teams that support the CIM business. There has been ongoing angst in my team and other teams about potential layoffs. Anyone else work with CIM and have similar concerns? Or am I just overreacting and it will be "BAU" as senior management says....

A Thoughtful Approach to Workforce Reductions

When organizations face the difficult decision of reducing headcount, it’s important to balance business needs with employee well-being. Instead of removing people randomly, one approach could be to create a “wishlist” where employees can voluntarily express interest in leaving.

This method allows:
• Employees who are ready for their next chapter to exit with dignity.
• Critical roles and talent to be retained for business continuity.
• The process to feel more transparent and humane, reducing uncertainty and anxiety.

Such an approach acknowledges that some team members may already be considering new opportunities, while others are deeply committed to staying. By aligning both organizational and individual needs, Dell can manage necessary changes with empathy and fairness.
