Laid off yesterday

The calendar invite arrived about 90 minutes before the call. It just said ‘Catch-up’. I knew what it was before I even clicked "Join."

My manager was already there but no one from HR attended. He stayed on script—no small talk, just the standard lines about "headcount reduction" and "operating model changes." It was all over in 15 minutes.

There’s something incredibly bleak about being let go from your own living room. One click and my entire professional identity for over 10 years just disappeared. My access was cut before I could send a message to my team. My Citi email disappeared from Outlook on my mobile. My account on the OneNote app also deleted but it left a lot of the data behind lol - meeting notes, PowerPoints etc. So typical of Citi, nothing works properly.

I was left sitting in Tampa in my house with a laptop that’s just a brick to be returned. I woke up in the morning to go to work, i ended the day with no job and no plan for tomorrow.

So…9,607 more cuts by March 31, 2026?

10,000 – 393 = 9,607

”Was just told at 3pm today 1/15 access is getting cut off for 10,000 people at T-Mobile who are all part of a mass layoff. Not sure how accurate 10,000 is but I know for a fact my ex-wife is part of this.”

Gartner had mass layoffs across their Talent Acquisition org today

A Message from Andy Obert: SVP Talent Acquisition

Team,

As you know well, the macroeconomic environment remains volatile and complex. As a result, we’ve reduced hiring across the company in line with our current revenue and our near-term growth aspirations.

Recruiting top talent remains a critical capability for long-term growth; however, we must take decisive action to realign Talent Acquisition’s capacity with Gartner’s current hiring plans.

As a result, we have made the decision to eliminate some roles in TA. Impacted associates will be notified today, 30 September.

I will be in touch later today once this process has been completed.

Today will be challenging for all of us. Thank you for being considerate and supportive of each other.

Andy

laid off after 9 years

ibm canada laid me off in ottawa after 9 years, and just weeks later they labeled me a low performer... i got an email saying this, even though my last review was positive. i asked my manager in toronto why it happened, and he said his director in austin told him to do it, adding that he never thought i'd find out. ibm does this so they can backfill the role with someone else... pure evil!!!

i think the ceo and senior executives are slowly ki-ling ibm because revenue is not really growing. every year they lay off thousands in north america, europe, and canada, then move jobs to india to cut labor costs by 80%. they make revenue look fine each quarter, but it's a scam cheating the shareholders.

So long and thanks for all the fish

Well… got my “organisational update” email in the calendar. Looks like that’s all she wrote. It’s been a wild ride but it’s time for a new chapter. Am going to miss all the great people who I’ve worked with. But I think I’m leaving at a time when it’s going to be no fun being at Dell. Swings and roundabouts. Hope Dell finds its way again.
