10,000 getting cut

Was just told at 3pm today 1/15 access is getting cut off for 10,000 people at T-Mobile who are all part of a mass layoff. Not sure how accurate 10,000 is but I know for a fact my ex-wife is part of this.

10K doesn’t remotely make sense. Can confirm the departments mentioned, TFG, program managers, Sr. Managers of SMRA have been impacted. Expecting more impacts to be announced this week.

@OP They don't just cut access for people who are on payroll two more months usually.

@eh it appears that the “other guys” are still leading the layoff “competition”. Remember, in 1983 AT&T/Bell/Verizon had over one million employees.

@at yep that is what I was alluding to when I said they can lay people off but keep them on the books until the warn date minimums for the particular state, just like what VZ did.

@aj each state has different warn requirements. They are a little bit more stringent in washington state. If all the layoffs aren't done until february 1 and you're being given notice dates of april 2, the state of washington warn notice will not come out until then, based upon the change in the WA warn act done in 2025. Also over and above, the federal warn act, in the state of washington, you're not allowed to lay off someone on family medical leave.

Cutting 10k quietly is insane. Nobody thought it would be this bad. So the rumors about wanting to get back to pre-sprint headcount were true....

Remember when TMO lied to congress and said they would be jobs positive from Day 1 of buying Sprint?

Only an id--t believed it then. Only bigger id--ts still believe it.

Warn doesn't need to be filed yet if they keep you on the payroll for your state's warn minimum. Look what vz did.

@ae that would have to include Consumer Retail & Frontline I would guess. All under Frier. Possibly product too.

@ae As in they notified 10K as of today, or there will be a total of 10k when it is all done?

Heard 10K impacted from two different leaders today during separate follow-up meetings; It looks legit.

I was let go from TFG effective April 2, 2026. I was also given a severance. I assume that starts AFTER April 2nd?

That's the reason they give you garden leave, because it allows them to no longer be required to submit a WARN notice...

@a9 TFG (T-Mobile for Government moving to 3 regions, all of the ED Teams laid off today, IOT impacted today, SDR's totally gone today, Gov Account Executives impacted today. Next up Call Centers, Retail and other dept. This is a 3-month rolling lay off 10k is the number if not more. TFG has 4000 employees alone...well had.

@a7 I call BS on low hundreds. Sales alone is hitting a couple thousand. The way they roll it out, and piecemeal the comms on it it’s intentional.

WARN doesn’t need to be filed til Feb 1st. They’re not done yet.

I’d say the 10k is going to be spot on when all said and done.

@a7 Well, 250+ just from the SDR org alone.

The number for today is in the low hundreds.

A honking big cut in corporate would still be in the low to mid thousands, and it's not happening today. Does the long term future involve larger cuts in frontline? Maybe, but not today, and it would be mostly attrition rather than layoffs anyway.

Not sure WARN has to be filed yet, they are keeping on Payroll through April 2nd, and WARN is 60 days so that would be Feb 1st for reporting

10,000 seems big unless it’s across all orgs. Even then it’s big. Maybe 10% was miscommunicated? A number as big as 10k would be in WARN system, just checked and I don’t see anything.

10k is the number, roughly 19% of the workforce will be cut. TFB/TFG has a mandate of a $30million headcount cut alone. I was one of them this morning and speak with my Ex Director his territory just quadrupled in size. It's a mass layoff don't let anyone tell you different.
