Analog Devices + Maxim Merger (Closed: August 2021)

✅ Total Layoffs: ~1,800 – 2,000 employees globally

This reduction came from both Analog Devices (ADI) and Maxim Integrated as part of the post-merger integration.
✅ Types of Jobs Impacted

  1. Duplicated Support & Corporate Functions

These are always the first cuts in semiconductor mergers:

Human Resources (HR)

Finance

Sales administration

Procurement

Information Technology (IT)

Corporate functions that overlapped between ADI and Maxim

  1. Overlapping Product & Business Units

Maxim had:

PMIC (Power Management ICs)

Battery charger ICs

Serial interface products

Automotive ICs

Sensor products

ADI already had large, established groups in these same categories → redundant orgs and product teams.

  1. Redundant R&D Sites

After the merger, multiple smaller Maxim design centers were shut down, including:

Some Dallas groups

Selected Asia-based design teams

These were consolidated into ADI’s larger R&D hubs.

✅ Layoff Timeline

2020–2021:

Deal announcement

Planning for integration

Q4 2021:

ADI officially begins structuring the combined organization

First waves of integration layoffs

2022 (Peak Layoff Year):

Heaviest job cuts

Consolidation of overlapping business units

Closure of duplicated design sites

Corporate restructuring

2023:

Final “synergy cleanup” layoffs

Optimization of product lines

Rationalization of sites and teams

Total integration timeline: ~24 months

CAC, wealth

I’m out. I’m a financial advisor in the cac. I feel like they have made me shove my nose up a moose an-s. I am heritage Bb&T and really thought we had something good. I am still mad about Tim and furious about Murdock (again. Seriously, the best guy in the company). I’m out. We are dropping like flies. This place is cr-p. I will say no more. It’s just bad from top down. I am out.

Did CTO announce layoffs are coming in today's all hands meeting?

In today's all hands meeting, the CTO pretty much said Citi will follow the lines of Amazon and Meta and will be laying off people. He didn't say specific numbers and exactly when but the message to me sounds like there will be layoffs coming.

Permian Lease Operations to be fully outsourced

Team of the usual suspects working on a plan to fully outsource Permian operations. Similar to Guyana SBM Model. Being close to the wellhead to be safe was never true. Timeline for change is unclear. Those in operations will be offered to switch over to third party service provider as was done previously with groups like IT and GREF with the associated cut in pay and benefits.

Pro Support. Has that all been outsourced?

I at one time worked in the Pro Support department for a year before I moved tf on from that god aweful job..

But I'm curious with all the layoffs in IT/tech support, is there even a US based Pro support team anymore?

I remember that one of the differences between pro support and pro support PLUS was that with PLUS, you were GUARENTEED to talk with someone in the USA.

Drowning

Post Enterprise Reimagined, I am struggling in my new role. I had no onboarding, just a whole lot of department meetings with no context. My new leader has no experience in this work and spent their entire career in a different discipline. My partner in the work also has no experience in this discipline. We were thrown headlong into a project with no guidance other than, “You are smart. Figure it out.” A month later, my work was just doubled because we are short handed on our team because of layoffs. I am scared and sick and stressed out. And my leader has made it clear they don’t care. I am frustrated and angry. Anyone else dealing with this scenario? How do I handle it?

NON Performing WFH Employee's

The remote workers not performing should be the first to go! WFH doesn't equal watching Jude Judy and going to the mall or getting your hair done etc. Those acting like that did put themselves on this list while those that preferred to be in the office and PERFORM should prevail as well as the WFH employees that actually do their jobs! The lazy as--s are ruining it for the legit WFH employees. Just watch! The WFH 3 days a week hurt us bad! Complacency is through the roof! We also have too many damn AD's. Everywhere I turn there's an AD making $150-$180K. It's stupid! Get Russo out!

Caleb D. Org

Significant surplus coming to Caleb D org. All positions and locations currently under evaluation for surplus. All locations on the table. Being in a hub is not going to save you this time.

IBM to Cut Thousands of Roles in Focus on Software Growth

International Business Machines Corp. will cut thousands of workers this quarter while it continues to shift the focus of its business to higher-growth software and services.

“We routinely review our workforce through this lens and at times rebalance accordingly,” a company spokesperson said. “In the fourth quarter we are executing an action that will impact a low single-digit percentage of our global workforce.”

IBM shares have climbed this year on investor enthusiasm for the software business, which is fueled by acquired divisions Red Hat and HashiCorp. Chief Executive Officer Arvind Krishna has pushed the unit to become IBM’s largest business, especially as the consulting division has been buffeted in recent years by customer concerns about the overall economy.

The company employed about 270,000 workers as of the end of 2024. Some US workers may be affected by the job reductions, but employment in the country is anticipated to remain roughly the same year over year, the spokesperson said.

So Uniti lay off levels reaching a size to push Windstream employees to switch the online community group to a new URL subdomain is happening, time 2 upgrade the crew to a bigger, better telecom layoff group. Why complain to ex-co-workers with Uniti, when there are ample AT&T RIF'd doinks to gripe at. And Verison, and Frunteer, and Tmobile, and

FNAC BI Laying Off Hundreds of U.S. based staff

Effective immediately, Fujifilm North American Business Innovation have reduced their U.S. based staff by several hundred. All areas of the business have been affected, except ex-pats from Japan.

Fuji's U.S. operations has been hemorrhaging for the better part of the past few years with declining sales and market pressures due to ongoing import tariffs.

Keeping the ex-pats in the U.S. protects reducing personnel in Japan and abroad.

NJ layoffs

https://patch.com/new-jersey/hoboken/optum-lay-572-workers-closing-pediatrics-mental-health-offices-nj

"Optum, a health provider owned by UnitedHealth that took over numerous medical practices in New Jersey in the past several years, will lay off as many as 572 workers over three months, according to WARN notices filed with the state.

The company began sending letters to patients on Monday informing them of medical practices that will close as of Nov. 30 — including some pediatric and specialty medical offices, and all of their mental health practices.

One email received by patients on Monday said Optum will cease offering behavioral health services throughout New Jersey after Nov. 30.

Another message received by patients in Hudson County, one of the most densely populated counties in the country, said four of the company's pediatrics offices will close as of Nov. 30.

According to four WARN notices filed with the state of New Jersey on Oct. 1 — required in advance of mass layoffs — Optum Care will lay off 572 employees statewide, with most paid through Feb. 2. Separately, Optum Medical Care will lay off 122 employees just in Secaucus by February and March. And Optum Select Services and Optum Management are laying off 60 workers total.

At USC, more than 900 employees laid off since July

The University of Southern California has issued layoff notices to more than 900 employees since July amid a fiscal crisis that has battered morale and strained resources.

The cuts, detailed in a Monday letter to the USC community by interim President Beong-Soo Kim, are central to an effort to erase a budget deficit that ballooned to more than $200 million. The layoffs have included employees across the university and its health system, including student academic advisers.

Leadership Saved Themselves, Not the Team

Being part of a recent round of layoffs has given me a lot to think about — not just about my own career, but about leadership, accountability, and the values that guide organizations.

In many cases, it seemed that leadership roles were protected while teams — the people who did the day-to-day work that drove results — were let go. It’s a tough reality to process, but also a revealing one.
