Tired

New Year new round of layoffs. It was done very quietly and most are afraid to even talk about it. We all know more are coming. The push to rely more on dealers, cutting sales offices, service, and warehousing. Moving towards direct to customer aka drop ship. Jobs being sent overseas for cheap labor. Push for automation and focus on using AI. All geared to eliminate as much of the US workforce as possible. Then act surprised that moral and engagement are so low. Upper Management focused on stupid rules like camera on for calls and more in office days while sales numbers tank and existing customers become more angry. How much time and money wasted on Kickoff meetings and surveys just to sp-t in the face of the workers. Just holding on until I get a new job. It's a sinking ship, man the lifeboats.

MDT is here and engaging with site owners. A true layoff I posted was removed.

They probably argue that it is somehow a trade secret or otherwise. Let's see how long it lasts here, censored.

1) Cryocath in Montreal will close and has been a sh-tshow of a project for over 6 years now. Production moves to a PR site that I won't mention because maybe that's the confidential part, according to their argument. The delay is from the PR-side. Considering the 4 sites in PR, you can work it out yourself. Ask yourself why the last Manufacturing Director left after a relatively short time there and went to an MA/MN site. I forget which, but you can find it.

Anyone else can show you the slow layoffs and reduction in capacity from production lines over time. The employees themselves know it and speculate all the time. Tons of them are close to retirement, so they're just sandbagging until the inevitable happens.

2) A California site is also slowly shutting down and has been for a few years. To not get this post removed, I'll tell you it is NOT Northbridge, and it is NOT Irvine. It is a site with an already low number of employees.

Enjoy.

IT is done, do you see it too

There is no US IT left. These rounds will finish us off. The only good news is there is a rumor we heard that David is out looking for a new CIO again. We knew that had to come after the latest mess last month. Maybe the new one will rebuild the function back on shore. Where it belongs. The clowns in India keep sending useless code. Do you see the same? We re-do their work again and again.

Mass Corporate Retail Closures Incoming

I suspect there will be mass retail store closures/indirect takeovers over the next two years. If you listen to the Q4 earnings call 10 min 20 seconds in when Dan is speaking he word for word says “we expect to realize 1 billion in run rate operating cost synergies by 2028-double our initial estimate. These savings will be derived from network integration, THIRD PARTY CONTRACT EFFICIENCIES, and go to market savings across marketing and advertising.” If you work at small retail store that is not considered an “A” store and you are within a 10-15 mile radius of another corp store you should be working on your backup plan now and trying to transfer to the A store in your area.

War is over?

Seems like the pace of posts has slowed down this last week. Is Thanos Srini done snapping his fingers? My group was told before the holidays that this wave would be done by end of January.

He scheduled his next all hands for the end of February. Anyone going to submit questions to the SLT?

It is amazing

Nothing has changed. Every year, at the same time, the horrid feeling of what’s to come. Here’s my 2 cents:
It’s only getting worse in tech.
Corporate doesn’t care about you.
HR doesn’t care about you.
Yes, HR is ‘secretly’ invited to the meetings - they want to make sure you show up and you may not if you know it’s a goodbye call.
Again,
Corporate doesn’t care about you.
HR doesn’t care about you.
Get out if you can and stop the stress.
I left before they had their way with me, and it was the best thing I ever did. I thought about waiting for severance, but then they would’ve really won wouldn’t they have?
Find a better way. It’s not worth it.
You are better than them. They might not care about you, but you have others who do.

Yes, You Are At Risk…So Fight Back

Unless you are in HIH, Philippines, or Ireland, then you are at risk of being laid off. Other posts here and my own experience shows that being a top performer or being younger or paid less doesn’t make a difference. They stopped taking manager input and they are just randomly firing. Probably letting AI tell them who to cut.

So what can you do about it until this madness is over?

Quiet quit. Do only what you have to, and no going above and beyond. If they cut 3 people and hand you their work, do what you can but don’t do it all. Otherwise you are rewarding them for making things worse. If you are salary, work 40 hours. No more no less. If you are told to take on new roles on top of your current one, politely inform your manager that you are only one person, ask for a breakdown of all expectations then advise that while you will do your best, the expectations are not reasonable for one person.

Don’t go out of your way to help HIH. Do what you have to in order to keep your job, but if they are asking for extra time from you so you can basically train them to replace you, defer until you have the extra time. If HIH says something hard to understand, ask them to repeat until you do understand. If you get a kindly email that is hard to read, politely respond that you don’t understand and ask for clarification until you do. That will slow the down and increase the inefficiencies of language barriers. These people, while certainly mostly good humans, aren’t your friends. They are your replacement.

Don’t put everything into documentation. This is used to train AI and many HIH can only work off of SOPs. Let them figure out missing, but common sense, steps. Otherwise you are training your replacements. Make your documentation as obscure and high level English language as possible. AI will struggle to interpret it and will be more prone to hallucinations. HIH will get confused and make mistakes. Cigna won’t see the error of this JE/RIF/offshoring strategy unless those left behind cause things to fall apart.

Take your PTO. You earned it. It is your time and your benefit. If you have Standout points cash them in before you can’t.

If you have Cigna insurance, use as many benefits as you can as soon as you can. Get your new glasses. Snag that HSA $. Get as many preventative screenings as you can.

It won’t stop what’s coming. We can’t change that. Unionizing is not feasible and Cigna would bankrupt itself Union busting before ever allowing it.

But not helping them be successful in sending your jobs to another country, or having (error prone) AI doing your job will make a small difference and add up long term. Don’t not do your job. But don’t make it any easier on Cigna for getting rid of others or even yourself.

Stellantis orders employees to return to work 5 days a week

Coming to your town next !

We hear, even those who got a waiver to work off-site are to come in or lose their jobs.

The recent surge in FORD “ghost” job postings may now make more sense —HR likely anticipated increased turnover among employees who WFH getting canned.

Simon & Schuster Layoffs

Simon & Schuster Implements Additional Layoffs

https://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/publisher-news/article/99584-more-job-cuts-at-s-s.html

Simon & Schuster announced a new round of job cuts. This follows earlier "limited" staffing changes this week. Approximately 15 employees were affected across adult and children's divisions.

High-profile editors like Eamon Dolan and Colin Harrison were among those let go. These reductions are a response to current market conditions.

Prioritize your family everybody

I read a comment saying someone was told by Fidelity that they were approved to move to take care of their ailing mother, and then Fidelity said “sike”. To the person in that predicament, I’m sorry Fidelity did this to you.

I read a rumor that Fidelity employees may only need to come to the office once a week once again instead. I say RUMOR because I’m unsure how truthful that is.

Regardless of the situation, whoever’s reading this, please don’t forget to spend time with your loved ones. Most of us come here to vent. And that’s ok. Just don’t forget to be around people who make your life meaningful.

That’s all. Have a good weekend. If you’re on the east coast, safe during the incoming snow.
