PayPal Layoff Risk for New Hires?

Hi all,

I recently received an offer from PayPal. However, I’ve been seeing a lot of concerns on Blind about potential layoffs, especially with the recent CEO change and stock price drops.

Does anyone know how PayPal typically handles layoffs with very recent hires? Are new hires usually affected in restructuring rounds?

Also, if layoffs were to happen, how soon will be?

Any insights from current or former employees would be really helpful. Thanks!

Apologize for the layoff rumors

I hope the folks who predicted a layoff every week since the last one in November will finally give up and apologize to all current employees for needlessly strirring the pot. It's March and no sings or talk of a layoff. Nada. Zilch. Not one AVP or VP has mentioned anything even remotely related to a layoff. Just because Vz has uhh ndertaken layoff every year doesn't mean we should have another one this year - big or small. Even Dan is more focussed on cost/opex transformation via AI and renegotiating contracts, not via layoffs. Our financial performance/net adds has been stellar and the markets are rightfully rewarding us for that. Our debt profile has gotten much better and with buybacks and a committed dividend, Wall St loves us which will help us in the capital markets to fund other initiatives as well. TMo better watch their backs.

Remember - even a broken clock is right twice a day. Some of you are just that. Stop with the fear mongering

So quiet

I prefer when there are rumors going around than the complete quiet on layoffs. Makes me think we're about to be hit by a major storm. I hope I'm wrong, but with everything happening in the entire industry, I wouldn't be surprised if major cost cutting is in our near future.

Rumor started by Oracle?

I know I’m going down the conspiracy rabbit hole here, but just for conversation what if Oracle started the rumors of the layoffs? Oracle knows they must get employees motivated again, and it’s against their nature to do so with rewards, but creating fear is right up their alley. The thought being that employees will put up with a lot more if they’re afraid they’re getting laid off. Suddenly, their performance may matter so they work harder. It seems a little far-fetched, but an interesting theory of ponder.

Underwriting layoffs

What has everyone heard about Underwriting layoffs? I am currently in UW, specifically in business lines and we are just being told it is not affecting us at this moment except for the UW service assistants and Auto mod UW but it seems like everyone else is saying it will be all of UW that will be laid off eventually.
